Been wanting a change for years now, someone who can guide and grow a team of kids on their own terms and ideas. Regardless of anything would we expect Simpson to be there in 5 years? 3 years? Already a long tenure in charge, why not try something new, it hasnt been working for the last 4 years really.
This. It's been going on for too long. It just needs a change. We need to try something different.

I was floored when he said they haven't worked on ball movement at all a number of weeks back.

I mean wtf have you been doing? Chess? Backgammon? Beer pong?

What coach doesn't work on ball movement in a sport involving a ball.

A team that's had sub zero fitness for 2+ years now.

Answer my question first.

I mean, I could point to the fact that Norf were talking up their ball movement strategy after smashing Collingwood in the preseason, then going on to get smashed in every game for half the season to point out it's probably not nearly as important to the outcome of a game that people seem to think it is.

Put of simply this midfield we had playing for us today is simply uncoachable.

You can put the best coach of all time and it still won't make a difference.

No point moving onto a different coach when the midfield setup today is uncoachable even with a different coach

Season 3 Leave GIF by Martin

They aren’t sacking him - it’s disappointing but that midfield isn’t winning anything with Elliot Yeo completely useless for 3 quarters.

Go post on Facebook you nuffies, home of the ‘Sack Simmo’ brains trust.

🥱 This midfield is uncoachable. So it won't matter if we change the coach then and try something new?
Given that simmo and the new coach we replace him with won't make a difference.

Well if your attitude is as poor as ours was today ball movement is pretty much worthless.
North are a very young team and in a deep rebuild so their losses are to be expected. Even today you could see a semblance of a game plan from them.
We seem to be trying chaos football and have a few winners and mercurial players to win games with no method or game plan at all.
This confirmed by Simpson.
The attitude showed up for 20 minutes and we almost won the game...tell me genius why that last quarter effort wasn't there the whole game?

Why? I like the idea that the offensive play is on instinct and we're well structured on defence.

Why was there only intensity in the 4th quarter? Why can Simpson not motivate the team to perform for 4 quarters? It cannot be down to the young players as even the old players don't put in high intensity for 4 quarters

It's very clear footy logic 101. With an inexperienced midfield setup you play in burst.

When you replace our underperforming mid with Ryan they may do better. But put Ryan in mid at quarter 1 logic still applies.

How would I know?

The game turned when Ryan went into the middle. Should've been tried earlier obviously but it's something to work with.

Maric coming on also made us more potent moving the ball forward.

The point is, we had far more scoring shots and if we were close to 50% accuracy, we'd have easily won the game.

We'd also have easily won the game if Kelly and Reid were playing instead of Gaff and Sheed but they weren't.

There's only so much you can work with.

So what you're saying is due to Ginbey, Chesser and Culley not being fit enough, the entire team cannot play at high intensity?

Less about fit. More about running patterns. They don't know how to get to the right spots. That comes with time or not at all sometimes
But even if they don't run to the right spots, why can't the rest of the team play at high intensity and compensate for them? Or is it humanly not possible to play at 4th quarter intensity for 4 quarters?

I've just assumed that on the back of a return to form by Yeo and Gov and immediate impact from Ried that there would be enough strong performances and good vibes to make it impossible to sack Simpson this year, and that next year we are a genuine chance of making the 8.

This was as recently as 3 weeks ago, them Simmo reverted to form and bought back Ryan underdone, Flynn underdone, Sheed on the back of no form whatsoever in the 2's, and now has Gaff cemented back in as well.To the surprise of no-one, we then immediately lose any pride we could of taken for our performance . I basically think the guy will never change and we just can't develop a young side with the approach to selection we've had under his tenure. As such, I'd be happy to let him go on Monday morning.

However, we are not going to do that. And to play devils advocate with regard to todays game I thought we had more scoring shots then they did and the umps decided the game once we started converting our chances in the last. I don't think North deserved it more. We made terrible decisions at the selection table but everything looks different when you kick 2.15 and can't really put that on Simpson. Not sure how anyone else read it but clearly the last quarter he actually tried something and it sparked a change, putting Ryan and Jones in the middle after finally conceding his structure wasn't working.

Will he learn something from that last quarter? I doubt it. But if he did then perhaps we'll see some of these veteran players slink off back to the beagles where they belong. He gets 3 weeks post bye to put this shit month of football in the rear view I think, probably doesn't deserve it but if he can turn the vibe around somewhat maybe the rest of the year can be a positive experience for the fans. I hope that happens.
