If I was Simmo, why the **** would I go to Arden St? He'd be leaving the richest club in the country to go straight to the poorest, which is in arguably an even worse situation off-field.

Would be a zero-sense decision, considering he has 2 years to run on his contract.

Especially if the AFL makes North insist on a 6-month termination clause.

north can spend as much as West Coast can, they don’t even need to have the money as the AFL will cover the cost.
They have better young talent and are at least a good year and a half into the rebuild.
Seem to be having done off field issues at present but they can be fixed quickly.
Unless Simmo sees himself as our next flag coach then he would be nuts to not look seriously at this if it’s on the table.

We are throwing out a lot of names who could coach us if Simmo left but i am yet to see a hand up from other coaches.
We don't know if a)...we can source another coach and b)...if they even want to come to a severely depleted west coast.

We will be starting again, priority at the start is to learn to defend. Our defenders have no idea how to do this.
It starts there and works it’s way forward.
I suspect we are fealing the loss of hurn - he led the backline in a way that barrass and gov are incapable of doing. They lack the footy smarts.

If he feels he's likely to get the sack in the next 12 months, then this allows him to secure three more years.

Or he could be thinking more strategically. If West Coast needs a serious 3 or 4 year rebuild, it's not likely he will survive. Much better to jump to a team that has the young talent already, fill the gaps with trades and then ride the finals wave. Could buy him another 5+ years of coaching.

Another scenario is that his relationship with the executive has broke down and he just wants out.

Hurn’s only missed the last two weeks.

There’s always guys keen to step up to head coach. Don’t know why, it seems like a nightmare of a job, but it’s never mattered how much of a basket case a club is, people apply for the senior job.

Someone like Clarko probably isn't going to be interested but I'd think Adam Yze or someone similar would be over here before the ink was dry on the contract.

Saw some vision of Justin Langer speaking at some corporate function yesterday. He said that he has yet to decide on what he does next, but after scoffing at the suggestion he might coach England, did say that he wants to remain in WA

It got me thinking if there’s any benefit that could be gained by getting him more involved with the coaches to assist in steering us out of our current mess. May not even need to be more than a short term role but his experience in resetting the culture of the Australian cricket team after sandpaper gate could be helpful albeit in another sport.

Has a reputation for speaking his mind and a bit of tough love with an outside perspective of sorts wouldn’t go astray

Admittedly it’s a thought bubble that I haven’t spent much time on but interested in others views.

Personally, I don't reckon this stuff actually makes any real positive addition. It's been tried a number of times in different versions and it always ends up with people realising it doesn't really add. I could rattle off various versions in corporate and sports where the notion of bringing in "experts" from other fields would theoretically make a difference but it just doesn't pan out that way. It's like saying Charlesworth will improve Freo, it just doesn't actually transcribe.

It could work! Thinking a bit outside the square but he might be able to have a role at the club (perhaps not as head coach) around helping our team/club build an identity around toughness and grit - something akin to what the Swans have. Something the players can buy into together and play as a team again. Ideally it'd be a football person but we're already having trouble sourcing suitable people from the eastern states as is...

Not sure how much money bringing him on board might cost though, and whether we can spare that from our football department. Also there were some rumours that the test players didn't get on with him at the end.

He’s previously been involved at some level. IIRC he was in the coaches’ box for the Bulldogs game at Docklands in round 2 last year - so I assume he has done a bit behind the scenes. Personally, I don’t think he’d be the breath of fresh air that we need going through a rebuild.

Going to stick out my neck here and know shit about his life, except what is in the tabloids .
Benny Cousins being one of the most influential midfielders seen at WC, could he turn it around as a midfield assist Coach?
Or has that ball been rolled, and failed, already.

JL for WCE head coach.

The head coach is just a man manager anyway right.

Sadly i think that ship has sailed for probably the next few years but having seen him coach guys for half a season at east perth even when he was fried his football brain is one of the smartest Ive witnessed…. his ideas at stoppages were elite.
