Caroline Wilson completely making shit up... well colour me shocked.

She has literally zero evidence to suggest Simpson will leave. Among other things, he has two more years left on his contract.
She was crucified last year for saying that Clarko would leave and Mitchell would take over. Turns out she was right.

I don't like her style, but her sources are usually strong.

I dunno, having read through the thread, I think there's a lot to be said for Simmo jumping ship sooner rather than later. I also lived in Melb up until last year and watched Caro break a number of surprising stories when no-one else seemed to know anything. I think the deafening silence from the club is a tactic to get him to jump first so they don't have to pay him out.

And I'd bl00dy love to see Clarko installed as coach, but realistically I'm not sure Perth offers him the lifestyle he enjoys. But perhaps he's even now looking at RE.com for a small farm lot in the Swan Valley??

ETA: I just finish typing this, head over to FB, and what do I see? WCE posting a pic of JL and Simmo having a confab. Maybe Keys is onto something?

Going to stick out my neck here and know shit about his life, except what is in the tabloids .
Benny Cousins being one of the most influential midfielders seen at WC, could he turn it around as a midfield assist Coach?
Or has that ball been rolled, and failed, already.
One of the other dads at Auskick mentioned he helped out at a function Benny was at a few weeks ago, and literally the first thing Cuz said once he got backstage was ‘where’s the coke’.

I’m not sure we need that around the players.

I mentioned JL earlier in the year, definitely worth getting in for some sort of advisory/leadership sort of role.

I’m stunned. Thought he’d be a Pepsi man.

I think if Langer gets involved it would be either at a board/corporate level, or in football operations.

He shouldn't or wouldn't be anywhere near the coaches box. At least not in a tactical/game day capacity.

My gut feel is that Simmo is part of the bigger club wide problem. There are subtle signs that this is being recognised and perhaps addressed. My problem with this is that you need to sometime dismantle and rebuiild to solve such cultural problems. I get the feeling the club is united in not doing this as they are all implicated. Jobs for the bouys continues.

Go bach to Willie not being managed and destroying our 2019 finals.
Then the HUB - we were so so pathetically soft and full of excuses. Other clubs used Hubbing as a time to bond not fret and seek pity.
We get injuries admitedly badly managed ones but other humans do as well. Point the finger at leadership and management of staff and approaches thats where the buck stops.
Then we are impacted by a GLOBAL pandemic. Who isnt?
We have a few intenal idiots - we know who they are that are a burden on culture.

At all stages the leadership and messaging has been pitiful, with only recent subtle signs of improvement in messaging. But no action.

Wake up one day and the team is a reflection of this.

What does our highest leader have to say - 'our highest priority is charity work and community engagement'. Dont expect to beat football clubs.

She didn't have sources when it came to the Clarko call. She was making a punt, and got it right. And it was hardly a difficult call to make -- most coaches in Clarko's situation would have stood down. Frankly, I was surprised at the number of media commentators that were willing to back him.

I'm probably in a minority around BF, in as much as I don't mind Wilson and I agree that she clearly has good access and strong sources. But she also has a habit of just pulling stuff out of arse. When she was pushed on her Simpson call, she didn't respond with any facts -- just recited the point that something must be wrong because of the nightclub incident.

Put Simpson aside for a moment...

I find the media deeply frustrating in how they behave over coaches in trouble. They are like a pack of vultures that turn on the weakest prey they can find... peck at them incessantly until clubs are almost bullied into sacking them... and then they feign shock and concern.

Sorry Ziad, you normally post very well but i cannot agree with this.
It is a good thing to do charity/community work and so they should have. They were cleaning up a culture problem and needed to be seen as a
club that was involved with it's surrounds.
On the "Don't expect to beat football clubs" i would suggest you are over dramatising a situation.

The Chairman in writing stated that it is the club highest priority. That specifically means that it is the activity that we focus most resources on and test our outcomes against. If bnot it is meaningless spin.
It can be a supporting activity of huge value but as football club it can not be the highest priority - if you want to win regularly on the field. In a regulated and equalised comp if you want to win then onfield success has to be your focus -I would say prime focus. (It doesnt have to be the only focus but it has to be the prime focus). I have no issue at all with the club being a good citizen.

He didn’t say community work was their highest priority. This is what was written:

Sure, “desire to have a positive impact on our community” fits firmly into the corporate PR nonsense category.

But it’s extrapolating a fair bit to suggest that the club therefore considers their highest priority to be community work and thatthis is where they focus their resources.

He expressly says the strategic direction is “not only on-field, but also off-field success”.

Maybe ziad missed the “only”?

Most importantly??

Most = greatest in amount, quantity, or degree. I didnt extrapolate.

I could add that as a Vic Member i recieve a survey at years end I guess as a paid stakeholder - I assume all do. No questions on on field performance - plenty on charities and community work. My point is get the footy right first. All this distractive stuff just sets up more areas of excuse - we didnt make the 8 but we really engaged with the community etc, we didnt play finals so we had a long preseason but all our players are fat and unfit - but we visited plenty of hungry jacks outlets to engage with the community.
