Oh, we’re back to trading Gaff to Gold Coast whether he or they have any interest in the deal?

Amazing how things come in cycles.
No. He has zero value. He was just used as an example of how you might try and convince a player to be traded.

It happens all the time. "I was in Bali with the team at end of year, club rang me up and at first I was shocked they wanted to trade me......"

It actually happens a fair bit.

So we went all in on beating Richmond, the eventual premiers, at the MCG in August and couldn’t?

Doesn’t that mean we probably wouldn’t have beaten them a month later at the same ground?
not necessarily as from memory that game was very close - just because you lose to a team at the previous encounter doesn’t mean the same result the next time around. I can remember that year before it was obvious we weren’t going to make the top 4 most of the pundits were predicting a Richmond v WCE grand final. Anyway as it turned out not to be as very difficult to make the big dance when outside the 4 and being a non Victorian side!

I think the end of 2024 is probably the best time for a coaching change.

Let Simpson take the bad beatings along the way and bring in an extra 10+ young good kids ready for the new coach.

Think we should go the experienced route though over an untried coach so maybe a Pyke or someone

It wasn't because he had a 7 year contract on big money and they screwed their cap? Are they paying part of his contract as they are with Treloar?

I like looking at Collingwood as well as Freo, neither have won a flag in the last ten years.

No .. next…

I really don't think you should be using Collingwood as an example of 'good' list management..

Nah they are hopeless… who would you like us to be compared to??? Baldivis or south Bunbury because I’m sure they are just as amateur in list management as we are.

Collingwood's list strategy looks great at face value but let me use a simple analogy to put it in perspective:

You're playing Blackjack at the casino and you're sitting on a 10 & an 8. You(stupidly) call for another card and luck out to get a 3, thus hitting Blackjack.

You decide to give the house half your money anyway, because you're a moron.

Yeah, you may look like a genius getting that 3 but it cost you your job, house, best friend and wife, just to win a fluke hand of blackjack.

Are you this clueless as to what happened with their list just a couple of seasons ago?

Go on.. show me where their list strategy has been shown to be shocking playing in a prelim last year and 5 and 1 this year before today….

Love to have been as bad as they supposedly have been with their list…

Now your going to say they haven’t won a flag.. good job… credits is all that needs to be said to that.

Their 'list strategy' cost them their club president, pretty much their entire coaching group, their list manager and 2 of their star players.

They already had a pretty good list aside from 2 players they are still paying the salaries of. This could come back to bite them hard when some of the younger players start asking for higher salaries and they can't afford them due to paying significant portions of Treloar & Grundy's salaries.

For both players, they got pick 14 & a future second(Treloar) and pick 27(Grundy) but they also gave up 26, 33 & 42. Again, they're paying significant portions of their salary.

So for trading out 2 star players, they got pick 14, 27 and a future second(different drafts of course) PLUS they're paying a big part of their salaries.

They already had a decent list to begin with and only had the one down year in 2021, where they were able to take Nick Daicos as a FS. Then there's the Dayne Beams trade...

They have absolutely not made good draft decisions mostly, they're simply fortunate that they were able to employ Graeme Wright as Football manager to fix the sinking ship.

So their fortunate where we are just unlucky… ok got it.

Nope, I don’t want any decent young players learning their craft under the Simpson Brand. Get the new coach in asap and get the new brand and in particular the new message started .

Who did better?

Team A win flag in 2018 and in 2030

Team B have awesome players for the 12 years in between but win nothing.

Team A get 2 flags but in between 12 years of meh.

Team B get no flags but week in week out have amazing, exciting players to watch.

Did I say we were unlucky?

Do you have any insight other than "sack everyone"?

Where have I said sack everyone??? Yes Teflon Trevor should go along with his boys club ie Gepp.. should garbage players been moved on before now?? absolutely… my last comment on Simpson in this thread was not to say sack him…

Now instead of everything’s rosey and everyone should stay what’s your solution?

Next we play Richmond who just got handed to them by the suns… how many goals is acceptable for us to lose by this week?

Who said it's rosy?

Simpson has stated a couple of times they identified the need to 'transition the list, e.g a rebuild. He also has said the game style that won us a flag is no longer viable and we need to develop a new style, which has been obvious this year.

We've gotten 2x new assistant coaches to assist with this. The club also identified(correctly and obviously) that the fitness regime wasn't up to scratch with the new gameplan. This wouldn't have been noticed under the old chip, chip slow build up style because there was generally less contests and less sprints to move the ball faster. They got rid of the S&C coach and brought in a new one to assist with the transition.

Then there's the priority on drafting mids to replace our aging stars and the publicly spoken need to restock via the draft. You get the best results picking at the pointy end, so where the club finds itself is exactly where it needs to be, as much as it angers supporters.

Yes, it's probably time to move Nisbett on but he's been here before and the club has come out of it winning a flag on those occasions.

Better than sitting mid-table, or bottom of the 8, simply to appease a few impatient fans.

Simpson did identify the game plan was rubbish.. 3 years to late

The so called new coaches have been here for two preseasons… they haven’t seemed to change to much.. Schofield was known as a hard taskmaster at subi and port but I’m sure with our lot his nuts are on trevs shelf as to not offend the delicate petals we have as players.

We got a new s&c that’s good yet the fitness bloke is still there in koefod.

We are on target for another WAFL spoon and an afl spoon the aflw program is a joke also. Change has to come somewhere but the boys club is where it has to start.

No matter who is coach, we're bottom 4 for a few years.

Midfielders win matches. Particularly elite ones. Who have we got?

Yeo - can't get on the park
Shuey - can't get on the park
Kelly - can't make things happen when it gets tough
Sheed - butter
Gaff - potato

I'd swap Simmo for Pyke at the end of the year if Pyke wanted the job. Otherwise happy to bide time and build our list.

We were a couple of bad games to end the season in 2019 off a what, top 2 finish? Who'd have thought Willie would've poured Gatorade in a urine sample?

Traded for Kelly and those blokes who were always durable suddenly couldn't get on the park anymore. Unfortunate.

Stated that they wanted to start this new game plan last year but club got cucked with injuries/Covid. Can't really practice a new game plan when you can't even field a team, no?

Koefed is the high-performance manager, not the 'fitness bloke'. That's now Mark Kilgallon. Changing the bloke at the top won't do much if the guy actually training the team is useless. If he keeps appointing the wrong people then he's a goner. People weren't complaining about him in '06 & '18 though, for some reason...

I'm not suggesting it's not time for people to move on (Nisbett/Simpson) but they've stated their goals and whilst there evidence of those goals actually being moved toward I'll be happy to back them in, for the time being.

Also, it's not the 80s/90s anymore, the 'hard taskmaster' coach approach died long ago.
