MY preferred outcome is Simpson gets the sack end of this year and we bring back Woosha with Pyke, Cox and Hansen as his assistants.

Go full St Kilda.

Kinda miss wooshas dry post game press conferences where he would just half smile and say absolutely nothing for 10 minutes.
We're not bringing Woosha back as coach

I think there is more than a 50% chance Simpson decides he wants out at the end of the season. I see the eastern states commentators are now noticing what I have been seeing all year - how exhausted he looks. I don’t think the money will bother him or be a deciding factor. He would be pretty wealthy as it is now and he will get another high paying job somewhere after a rest if he decides to go.
A lot of pontificating and prophesying going on there, perhaps you should change your ID to the Numbskull Nostradamus.

the pitchforks are really coming out for Simmo now

hard to see him get an extension from here

If we give the team a mulligan for '20.
21, 22 and now 23 in a shambles.

How long do we wait? 4 years is OK why not 6 or 7? Or 3 decades like the Tigers or 5 decades and counting like the Saints?

I'll admit we seem to be eating a sheep s**t sandwich this year rather than a bull s**t sandwich but I can't say it improves the flavour!

Anything over 12 years is too long. So if there's no flag by 2030, it's too long.

Tigers and Dees waited so long because they drafted the wrong players: Scully, Trengove, Toumpas, Tamling, Fiona, Pettifer etc. Once they got it right (Cotch, Dusty, Oliver, Petracca), big things happened.

So we're we they were 10 years ago. Bottom of the ladder and playing like a busted ass. How well we recruit depends on whether we build a team that can go all the way. I'd say 2026 we might have a list full of talent that can climb to top 4 very quickly. In 2027/28 I'd want to be in the premiership window.

Winning a flag is bloody hard - and there are are 18 clubs - so the expectation that we must win flags every 12 years is unreasonable imo. And now with Tasmania and likely a 20th team not long after - well, if you can win a club every 12 years you would be considered a top notch club. Even including every season until 2027 as a write off, we'd still be winning a flag every 10 years (4 flags from 1987 to 2027) which is way above expected.

We have every right to be unhappy with the current situation but some perspective wouldn't go astray.

We need to be constantly pushing for improvement. The last 2 flag gaps have been 12 years.... and only produced 1 flag each.

We need to try and reduce the gap AND win more than one.

Disappointing Suma isn’t the coach.. was happy to play with 21 if it means jack darling is dropped…

It would be worth watching

He's had a giant crack at Rotham though?

Suma, you're giving a guy a spray who isn't good enough. I get the Darling spray, have no issue if he roasts Kelly (who has generally been good), but you're roasting a guy whose only in the team because 15 other guys are injured.

And the time to roast senior players - it was in 2021 when they just didn't want to contest the ball. The horse has bolted, the cycle has turned, and we're bottom 4 where we should be.

Samrt move - drop out only forward target an hardest worker even though they are playing under duress- top message.

He isn’t working hard enough though and is missing simple set shots week after week when he does somehow get the ball..

Play him deep forward if he can’t move and Oscar moves up the ground

Another thing with a person in Simpson’s position is that his own personal brand is being damaged by the results.

If his assessment is we are likely to endure another 3 or 4 seasons down the bottom, and he doesn’t plan to be or thinks it is unlikely that he will be the coach still by the time the results start to tick up again, then from a purely self interest POV it doesn’t make sense to keep going if you are Simpson.

Why would you want to keep being the public face of the losses and getting the blame? If you wanted another senior coaching gig in the future you would be better off getting out.

And for any moron who wants to reply and say that that Simpson is a Saint and would never consider his own future or self interest you need to start living in the real world. We are all human. We all think about and respond to our own self interest.

Simpsons uncontested gameplan while initially blindsiding the comp was always fundamentally flawed. Its infuriating that it took a preseason in 2023 - 5 years after the flag for him to put a focus on contested footy and if I ever see another eagle player doing the windsock wavy arms again it will be too soon. Someone above mentioned Rotham. Came into the Simmo system as a likely sort and what happened, is now 25 and nowhere. In fact its hard to name anyone in that age bracket who has really progressed - think of Foley, Duggan - likely sorts who have gone backward. Why did he push Schofield and Jetta out the door? That's why people are questioning Simmo. That he's sitting on 3-33 this past 2 years is just what has bought focus on it.

You also need to consider that those players were recruited specifically to complement the game plan at the time. If you're contending with a particular style, you don't suddenly start recruiting players with opposing attributes.

Take Gaff for instance. Looked a million bucks when we were at the top of the ladder, in a style that played to his strengths. Now just looks like a shadow of his former self, with a far more contested game plan with fast ball movement.

You can tell the shift in recruitment for this from the Culley pick last year, going on to Ginbey & Hewett. Even Long is fantastic at pressure and tackling.

It's a slow burn though.

That's true and now look at us. Take the defence for example. For some reason Simpon didn't like Schofield and eventually got rid of him even though you could see the dynamic of McGovern and Barrass - while wonderful players in isolation - didn't work as well as one of those plus the genuine lock down defender in Schofield. Years after the fact and we still don't have key defenders who can lock down, the defense gets 100+ kicked on it every week without fail and has no ability to stop a run on whatsoever.

Schofield wouldn't be much use to us now though, so it's a moot point.

Looks like HEdwards is more of the lockdown, but the jury's out on him becoming a successful AFL player.
