I think Trev makes his own rules tbh

For a start I don’t think it’s common for a club CEO to also be on the board

There’s a stronger case for Nisbett to retire than for Simpson to leave. At a minimum there should be a succession plan in place for him

My own view is that we should be putting someone in between Nisbett and current Football GM (Gavin Bell) with the plan he would take over as CEO after 12 months or so

Initially he could do a review of sorts across the club which would familiarise him with the way the club operates and also allow a fresh set of eyes to identify areas of improvement
It's not common for any executive to be on the board as it screws up governance. If the board is wanting to sack the CEO they can't even have a formal meeting about it without the CEO being involved.

I suspect Nissy planned to hand over the CEO job and then hang around on the board for 5 or so years to oversee things and ease into retirement. Unfortunately the club has gone to shit and he thinks he needs to hang around to fix it (when he's likely one of the root causes of the problem).

So

So if Nisbett is on the board and there's an 8 year limit doors that mean the CEO board position is not subject to the time limitation?

Yes. I think the club’s setup is that the CEO attends board meetings but is not, strictly speaking, part of the board.

Employed position vs an elected one.

Still, it's unusual for a CEO to remain in one role for so long.

He’s listed as a board member on the club website which states among other things

He joined the board of directors in November, 2003.

I think you'll find it's not uncommon, certainly among ASX Listed Companies, for the CEO role to be CEO & Managing Director.

Found a 2020 annual report that says the same thing.

It must be an exception to the term limit for directors.

I don’t like it.

Steady on you knob, you’re commenting on the state of governance within WC as if you’ve conducted a full blown internal audit. Governance covers the entire operating fabric of an organisation and to come out and imply that WC has “screwed up governance” is not only ill-informed, it’s down right stupid. Trevor Nisbett was, and probably is still regarded as one of the best performing CEO’s in the AFL.

Sure, he’s getting near the end of his tenure with WC but he should be acknowledged rather than pilloried. He’s done a damn good job over a long period time and largely due to his efforts WC has been one of, if not the most stable and successful clubs in the competition. It’s time like these you need a cool head and an experienced person in the wheelhouse and we’ve got that with Trev.

Ok Trev

Honestly, I’m finding that “we’re on a journey” is the most annoying catchphrase since the writers of How I Met Your Mother tried to make Lily’s catchphrase “where's the poop, Robin”.

Synergy. End thread.
