If you move Simpson on things stay much the same. It's just a fact. It could even be detrimental to the club long term.

If you move Nisbett on then things like our relationship with the WAFC and WAFL change and a much more independent review of every element of the club will be done.

It will also likely result in the removal of some of the jobs for the boys and bring about a completely different feel at the club.

Now I'm not saying don't change both in time but I think changing 1 this year needs to happen and I know for certain which will have much more of an impact on the club and the potential changes that need to be made moving forward.

Now with a new CEO, the deadwood cut and a full preseason if Simpson and co can't show a solid improvement by the end of next year then it's time to move him on.

Guys like Gepp, Stocks and the structure of the football department would change significantly.

How Gepp is still at the club defies belief. He joined the club as an assistant in 1990 ffs.

Nisbett has been our CEO so long that he started in that role before many of our young players were born (1999). And he was at the club for almost 10 years before then.

These guys have been great servants of the club but gee whiz.

Not sure if it’s false bravado or he’s starting to get to the stage of delirium but listening to the 6PR interview tonight I’m amazed how jocular Simmo was given the circumstances.

Remarkably chilled. Cracking gags. Really interesting listen.

It seemed almost like an acceptance of where he’s at - he has a job to do, he wants to do it so will give it his best with the understanding that he can’t necessarily control how long he keeps the job

His press conference tomorrow will be interesting as he sounded like he has a decent rapport with Adam Papalia but there are clearly journos who go to press conferences that he isn’t so fond of.

Coxy, with pikey as senior assistant/tactical strategist.would be good.
I want Pyke to take Nisbetts job. He is a very sharp operator. Knows how to run a successful company, is ruthlessly efficient and self motivated, has a commerce degree, knows the footy business (already been on our board) and loves the club. Eminently qualified, from outside the circle and already has a giant stack so his motivations are pure. He is the kind of guy that success follows with a Midas touch. I feel like it's his final calling to be our figurehead for a decade before he retires on a very large yacht.

He'd be right at the top of my shortlist as well for CEO. Played, Coached, Managed business and is best perhaps in a leading commerce position. Was also almost universally loved as a player here in WA so I can see it being very beneficial from a WAFL and WAFC perspective. Also doesn't take any shit on a corporate level and will clean house where needed.

There was talk last off season by noted newshound Kim Hagdorn that we’d approached Pyke for a director of coaching role but were knocked back

Pyke was also sounded out for at least one of the coaching vacancies last year but again declined any interest

Maybe a CEO role might be the sort of opportunity that gets him out of Sydney.

Alternatively give him the GM of football role to replace Bell with the intention of replacing Nisbett at the end of 2024

Who would want to be Director of Coaching at a club where the senior coach is a relatively recent Premiership coach at the same club and has been there for nearly 10 years and you are not a Premiership coach? Your opinion would count for nothing any time you disagreed with the senior coach about anything.

Not knocking Pyke or Simpson in saying that. I don't think Simpson would be particularly difficult to work with. And i love Pyke. I remember watching him play for Claremont in the 80's. I remember him getting knocked out by Ablett in a total dog act off the ball in the GF. It would be great if he took up a role at the club. But i am not surprised he declined that offer last year.

I've already agreed it was a pure nepotism hire. I've just also said that he is actually very good in his role in recruiting, his relationships around the club are good and with the players are good. He also works his arse off probably because he's trying not to be seen as a nepotism hire.

What does it mean for someone in his role to be 'very good'? Genuinely curious. He strikes you as having a particularly good eye for talent?

Would we look at David Noble? Understand his coaching deficiencies but was head of football at Adelaide before they made the GF and then at Brisbane for four years as part of their return to finals footy. I get the sense he’s not the best coach but a great administrator

IMHO, he has always been level-headed and calm in front of the camera. He's not as entertaining or charasmatic as some coaches, but he's an excellent media performer. He's generally honest and genuine, but rarely gives much away. It's an underrated skill.

Good call. I think Don would be of far more value as CEO than as an assiatant or coach for that matter. I dont know his arrangement with Sydney, but Sydney is a great place to live if you have a few bob. It may be difficult to extract he and his family unless it is a top offer. But I hear we have cash to spare.

Before I am piloried on the Sydney us ok comment, many assume GWS players will be easy to attract to Perth for lifestyle - but they live in extremely livable parts of Sydney away from their training base.

Simmo made a comment that they are often protecting players to the media. This is very evident and often seen as softness by some on here who want heads on stakes. However, no leader throws people under the bus publically and retains their trust.

I'm pretty sure the CEO pay is outside the softcap, so you could offer something very significant that an assistant coach wage couldn't come close to. Administration and corporate is the one area where we can use our finances to get an advantage.

As for Sydney, a friend of mine who lived there for a bit and came back to Perth made an interesting observation. People that move there always seem to have to justify and evangelise why it's such a great place to live. Almost as if they're compensating for something....

well I have lived in Vic, ACT, NSW and PNG - a few times in each spot - obviously as well as Perth. I visit most cities frequently.
The only compensation is family but with modern communications and velatively cheap flights thats a shrinking issue. I am aware that some sleep with the lights on miss mum.

The problem with this is that they will have a trained puppet to take Nisbetts place ready. He will just follow in Trevor's footsteps. You simply won't get someone from the outside that will come in with big new ideas and enforce change. Thats not how the Eagles work.
It will be someone from inside almost certainly and nothing will change.
What we need is someone from the outside who comes in and says we are starting fresh, bye bye Adam and others and start again.
Just won't happen though at our club, we will still make more money that every other club this year and that means the year will be deemed a success.

I think he would be in the discussion whenever that discussion ever comes up.
I do not want Dean Cox. Let Coxy go and coach elsewhere.

Nesbitt will never go.

I have a new theory. Like some sort of Nosferatu Trev has actually been harvesting the life-force of our recruits for near on a decade to defer the ill effects of the passage of time. This is the real reason our lads can't put on size and fail to develop. They are literally having the vitality leeched from their hamstrings/ankles/calves/feet by a vampiric overlord with a lower limb fetish. Will he retire to the shadows someday to pull the strings from afar? Who knows...only time will tell!

It's the only explanation that makes sense when you think about it.

I can just imagine the scene when they come to remove Nizzy. It'll start something like this:

I am the Eagles

Its a fine line between loyalty and used by date. Nepotism is a seperate issue.
