Cool. Just as Rhylee West is ready for inside mid rotations.

There's no inside mid rotations available for Rhylee though?

If he's gonna fill the gap left by a departing dunkley- he's going to be playing as a ruck forward.

All the more so now Treloar is onboard too.

There's rotations available, it just depends on whether we change course from what we've done for the past 2 years.

If you look at our rotations we pretty much stick with Bont and Macrae permanently and then Smith and Libba swapping for the third role with Dunkley pinch hitting. It's a very top heavy model, like Brisbane or Collingwood's, as opposed to teams like Richmond, St Kilda, Port or Geelongs where the spread is a lot more even. I expect with longer quarters we'll have to share the load more, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Libba go back to the original round 3/4 plan of being a half-forward with the occasional short stint inside as needed.

Also interesting that Treloar only spent 59% time inside. In round 5 he had 30 disposals for 52% inside, and in round 7 had 34 disposals for 35% inside. Wing and half-forward are definitely positions he's capable in which we'll probably look at.

Dunkley wanted to leave the club because of the current setup, and stef martin is in as a 2nd ruck so I dare say things definately aren't going to stay the same as the last 2 years.

So with stef coming in that kills off dunkley playing mid minutes as a pinch hitting ruck.
And with treloar coming in, that means he either takes a huge chunck of the inside mid minutes every week- or splits it and spends 40% of the game where he isn't terribly threatening or useful in the fwd line.

You're going to have a forward line full on non forwards for 100% of each game whatever happens with the rotations.

As I said it's going to be interesting to see how this square peg, round hole experiment goes.

Wrong one, Riley Garcia is the one.
The kid hasn't even played a VFL game yet. I'm happy to be patient with him.
Hannan just walked in the door too, mature trade so he plays.

Off topic but just on the Dunkley as a ruck, if you look at English and Bruce's CBA you can see how little Dunkley actually started in the middle as a ruck. After returning from injury it was 0%, 0%, 7%, 0%, 0%, 6%, 0% and 0% (Cordy took 5% in that game). It was more pinch hitting around the ground that was the problem but again, it's been exaggerated a lot. Take out round 12, where English played forward after centre bounces because Bruce was rested, and it happened maybe 3 or 4 times a game. Mainly because Bruce was very bad at pinch hitting.

But we always play mids as forwards, have the whole time under Beveridge. Wallis has made it work but I'm very confident in saying he'll be the exception to the rule. Libba did well round 3/4 in more of a link up role at half-forward but I can't say for sure if that's the future plan or if he forced his way back into the middle. His knees might be the deciding factor. Either way we'll have some half-forwards that aren't big goal threats but that's our usual set up. Our half-forwards push into the midfield to become the extra mid (interestingly in late 2019 where we became a higher scoring side we stopped doing this but have since returned). So all up I think we'll have something like

Bont- 75%
Macrae- 70%
Treloar- 60%
Dunkley- 50%
Smith- 40%
Liberatore- 5%

With Libba playing half-forward, Treloar and Smith playing wing and midfield, Dunkley playing midfield and forward pocket, and keeping Bont and Macrae as our main midfield players. Of course if we plan to keep Libba as a mid this all gets thrown out and we might see Smith become a permanent wing for this year, or keep Dunkley forward. I don't even think Beveridge knows yet, but there is definitely room to fit them in.

A bloke that publicly announced he wanted to be traded isn't, and never was, gettable by an opposition club?

That seems to be a very unique take on things.
Third hand from someone involved in trade week.

The dogs played the game well, they told Dunkley he was free to talk to Bombers in the hopes Bombers would pay a big price, but knowing they probably would not come to the party(as usual).

Dunkley then says if I deal can be done I will go to bombers, knowing that it was a high chance that a deal would not eventuate to the Dogs liking and that he’d remain at whitten oval.

Deal was never going to be done, Bombers got tied up trying to pry Dunkley out. Dogs got their man(Treloar) without any interference from Bombers. Dunkley more than happy to stay.

Bont- 50% then forward
Macrae- 65% then wing
Treloar- 10% then wing
Dunkley- 65% then forward
Smith- 45% then wing
Liberatore- 65% then forward

Bont- 50% then forward
Macrae- 65% then wing
Treloar- 10% then wing
Dunkley- 65% then forward
Smith- 45% then wing
Liberatore- 65% then forward

Awesome.

Every single one of those blokes is at best a B grader as a wing or forward.

A grade midfield surrounded by B and C graders everywhere else. (English is still a B grader until he can improve his consistency)

I can't see how the dogs have improved upon their 2020 team in any meaningful way bringing in treloar- especially if he's going to play 90% gametime on a wing.

He's only a gun in the guts

Same sort of things were said about Matty Boyd.

Time will tell.

I don't think there are many a grade wingers in the comp. It's a highly underrated position.
Hunter is a lock on one wing but isn't someone who gains metres quickly.
Richards is still developing for us although might be better off half back and Vandermeer was doing well last year until injured. Both are still young though so if Treloar can spend significant minutes on a wing as a run and carry player it adds to our midfield.
Robinson and McCluggage were seen as inside mids but have worked really well on the wings for Brisbane.

I don't think Dunkley ever wanted to leave because he had to play as a Ruck at times.
Dunkley is the ultimate professional athlete and he wants to maximise his returns in the short amount of time that he has at the top level.
He'll never be the captain or highest profile player at the dogs while Bont is there and is actually a fair way down the pecking order as far as profiles go falling behind Smith and Naughton this year. This not only affects salary but also media opportunities, sponsorship opportunities and third party payments.
Essendon would have been a great opportunity for him to increase not only his salary but also his profile and potential earnings from other sources.

Now the cat is out of the bag that he is gettable- 8 other vic clubs will be all over him.
The bombers have totally blown their chance- he won't ever be a bomber.

You'll get a top 5 pick for him but it won't be from essendon.

Essendon will have two of the top 5 picks with a bottom 4 finish and Merrett’s foot already halfway out the door.

I’m in the minority of Dogs fans but I tend to agree. It’s hard for some to look passed the name.
His hands are phenomenal. I don't think he's a small forward though

Real genius you are to still over do the, he rucked heaps last year broken record.

No excuses for the Dogs should go close to winning the flag.

They still haven't solved their KPD or KPF issue yet have they?

JUH might be a star, but he can't carry the load up front this season, which means relying on Naughton getting through the whole season or Bruce being consistently not bad, or Schache having a miracle season.

Martin & English haven't shown any real ability forward that I know of?

I think they should play finals, and might surprise and get through to a prelim, but their spine isn't yet on par with the Top-4 from last year so it would rely on a lot of goals coming from the midfielders I'd think.
