Adelaide Offseason 2013 - The Search for Draft Picks

Remove this Banner Ad

Okay guys and gals interested to hear your thoughts on the below attempt at trade month for Adelaide.

Judge each individual step for it's fairness - not the end result. I think Step 5 is the most questionable, depends how keen Melbourne are to bring in established players though.

I'm trying to bring in Polec, Shaun Edwards and obtain a pick < 25 as the draft apparently drops away sharply after that. I am also working on the assumption we will only be using 1 live ND pick with two rookie upgrades being used on Laird and Hartigan, therefore later draft picks are useless to us. Also I am making an assumption Polec has nominated Adelaide and Port are aware of this hence why they would be willing to trade out pick 30.

Interested to hear your thoughts!

Step 1: Petrenko + picks 42 + 60 -> Port pick 30
Step 2: Pick 30 -> GWS Pick 35 + 53 + Shaun Edwards
Step 3: Pick 35 -> Brisbane Polec
Step 4: Shaun Mckernan + Pick 53 -> Collingwood pick 45 OR Carlton pick 47
Step 5: David Mackay + Pick 45/47 -> Melbourne pick 20

Not a bad effort, but no way Brisbane are giving polec up for pick 35.

Not saying he is worth much higher but Brisbane will play hard ball as they drafted him early

He's uncontracted, has no runs on the board and wants out, Brisbane certainly aren't going to get a whole lot better than pick 30 for him

Good luck

He wants to go home to Adelaide. He's uncontracted, he's injury prone, he's hardly played any games. What about that screams higher than second round to you?

Port have already categorically ruled out using their first round pick for him. We don't have one, and aren't getting one.

Port have allegedly offered their second round pick, which right now is 30, but will be 32 once the compensation picks are in. We don't have a second round pick, but we've been fishing for one with no real takers, mild interest form Collingwood in giving us 27 for Henderson, which would become 29. We also allegedly offered them Matt Wright, but they knocked him back.

If Brisbane refuse those, Polec can walk, and Brisbane have to redraft him if they want to keep him - which would be the first time in AFL history if it did happen.

This is really as good as it gets for them with this player.

Where did I say he is worth more than that?

Brisbane have officially said that ports pick 30 won't be enough so just quoting what they are saying.

All I am saying is you won't get him for a mid 30's pick, wether that is what he is worth i not i couldnt really care

I just explained to you how Brisbane won't get any better than that for him, because nothing better than that is on offer. He'll go to Port or Adelaide for a ~30ish pick, some kind of player swap, or as a last resort into the draft. Brisbane retain no ability to demand more, when Adelaide and Port Adelaide have already established the ceiling to any hoped for bidding war.

Has nothing to do with whatever you did or didn't say about worth.

So Brisbane saying they won't except pick 30 has nothing to do with it?

They have to take whatever is offered to them, sorry i must have missed that memo.

I hope he does go to port for pick 30, my original comment was that the crows won't get him with pick 35 and that definitely won't be happening.

Step 1: Petrenko + picks 42 + 60 -> Port pick 30

What possible reason are you using for Port to recruit Petrenko?

He's a spud, would not want him even for free, he is a waste of a position on an AFL list.

There was a (really terrible) rumour that we offered Petrenko to Port in order to get a pick to exchange for Polec.

I'm hoping that terrible rumour came with the reply that Port would have given.

Because, you know, Port would absolutely want to do us a favour there.

In the world of Slowdowns, sure, anything else ............. you already know the answer ... ;)

So we will knock back Port's offer on the table of pick 30 to take your pick 35?

Adelaide supporters are the most delusional I've come across yet

I tend to agree that it's unlikely, but if played in the back pocket would he fill a need for you? I'm not familiar enough with your list to know what areas you are looking at improving on.

Re: Petrenko = spud, in the first half of 2012 his form was quite impressive, but unfortunately he hasn't continued on with it since then. Although we had many other players whose 2013 form was far below their 2012 output it's hard to know which year was the anomaly :confused:

Read the trade steps. Port would no longer have pick 30, it would be traded to Adelaide and on traded to GWS. Therefore Port no longer have pick 30 to offer, making pick 35 the best offered pick. As I also said

I am making an assumption Polec has nominated Adelaide and Port are aware of this hence why they would be willing to trade out pick 30.

I realise there is a snowball's chance in hell of this eventuating, but I thought I'd put it out there to see whether other people thought each individual trade was reasonably fair.

There is not a single player still on Port's list that I would replace with Petrenko, he is a complete waste of a place on an AFL list, no if's, no but's, no maybe's, he should be consigned permanently to the SANFL.

No, it is not fair to any degree whatsoever for Port Adelaide

You have us giving up pick 30 for Petrenko & steak knives, it's completely ridiculous, I wouldn't even give pick 3000 for Petrenko.

So I take it you don't like Petrenko then? ;)

They're certainly not going to accept Pick 35 from Adelaide, given that Port have already offered 30.

From Brisbane's point of view Pick 35 for Polec is unacceptable. Adelaide can easily trump Pick 35 with the offer of a reasonable player and a lower pick.

Yeh but he's still better than Hitchcock :confused:
I'm going to upset you but I seriously rate Petrenko above Hitchcock. Having said that I ****ing hate Hitchy being on the list.

If it was so easy for Adelaide to trump Pick 30, let alone Pick 35, with a 'reasonable player and a lower pick', why haven't they done it by now? Take a look what they are putting up for trade - it's now going into package deal territory (Lyons and Wright for Polec). That goes to show how parlous the Crows trade week is becoming.
