Been their bitches for a long time. Lost 9 of our past 10 against them, including 0-4 at AO. Good reason for your nagging doubt.
Shocking record so I see no reason for the general trend of optimism.
Tagged AmericanCrow in for this, having seen his post in another thread. He predicted us to pull away after a tight first 3 quarters.
I bloody hope so!
I watched Clarko being interviewed after he got off the plane where he talked up our mids (mostly), defence, forward line AND Jacobs. He's sneaky/cunning and seems to find ways to beat us. 0-4 on AO is telling, but their missing Mitchell is crucial. I think a win around 40 points would be a great start, but I'll take any win.
We'll see, soon enough.

Should rarely, if ever, lose a home game. Last year was pathetic. Looking for a win today, otherwise I'll be wondering where their heads are.
8 and 3 at home isn't a bad record..... one of those 3 was against this mob though.

We haven't beaten them at home since the move to AO, today has to be the day.

This is a fair point, but the optimism comes from having a large portion of our best 22 back and super fit. Kelly is a more than adequate short term Brown replacement too, given the Hawks are 1 side that have troubled Luke in the past. Mackay is..... well yep let's move on.

Our forward half looks super dangerous, we've made the brave call to select Keath over Harto and we have a debutant who looks the goods.

Then there's the midfield we've been waiting to see since trade week 2017.

4 quarters of our best footy will be enough today.

I agree. Good preseason, no real injuries and we've so far looked like we've fixed what structural issues we've had. Conversely Hawks have lost their main midfielder, and their jlt results from this left a lot to be desired.

Probably won't get a better opportunity to break that hoodoo

Brouch, Mrouch, Sloane, Gibbs. That's a ******* midfield.

If we still had Dangerfield, that'd be criminal.
The 2nd tier is probably the weak point with Greenwood a week or 2 away and Gooch probably a few more. We need a couple others to step up and do their bit.

If we still had Dangerfield we wouldn't have Gibbs, but yes, it would be insanely good.

No we would have still got Gibbs. That was something we'd be desperately trying to do for a decade.

We wouldn't have the money for him.

You can always find the money for players. Back ending pay, forcing lesser players out etc.

Sydney, Hawks and Geelong are prime examples here.

Maybe Danger will conclude he ****ed up and he wants a premiership before he retires and he comes back next year..
Conspiracy theory we got Carlton’s Pick to give to Geelong!

Brown ~ Talia ~ Doedee
Smith ~ Keath ~ Laird
Gibbs ~ Dangerfield ~ Seedsman
Jacobs ~ M.Crouch ~ B.Crouch
Lynch ~ Walker ~ Sloane
Betts ~ Jenkins ~ Greenwood
Milera ~ Jones ~ Atkins ~ Galluci

One of those 5 would be squeezed out. There's a salary cap, you know!
Gibbs isn't on a huge deal, we would have found a way. Probably by losing some depth and not having a guy like Seedsman around.

We wouldn't have Milera though.

Yes there is, it is however very possible to structure in such a way that sees it done comfortably. We have control on how much we pay him per year in our contract negotiations.

An example would be to pay Gibbs a good part of the contract in when were planning to restructure, and a lot of money off our cap.
