A game without the crowd isn’t a game IMO.

What a load of shyte!

There is no reason the season start can’t be delayed for 6 weeks and still get in 17 games without going beyond the planned GF day. This season should be completely scrapped rather than played in empty stadiums.

It will not be remembered as an actual, real premiership season anyway.
Yeah I think part of it is the '' I was there'' memories and stories

What bullshit. Yeah let’s decimate the league because there is no crowd.

As for your ridiculous suggestion to push it back 6 weeks, do you expect it to be over in 6 weeks?

Where Italy is now is where we will be in 6 weeks, no chance it will be over by then. We need to get as many games of footy in now so we have something to stream while in lock down. Cause it's the last footy you are going to see for at least 12 months.

Youre either going to cancel it or play as many games as you can. The SANFL and local leagues postponing til June doesnt make a heap of sense. That is right in the middle of flu season when this thing is going to be at its peak, and youre going to have to call it anyway.

Melt night tonite!!!

With so few injuries surely MacKay won't be selected?

Hopefully Gibbs doesn't' either, I remember last season when his preseason form was woeful we all thought "once the real stuff starts he will come good". Well he was pus for the whole year.

He shouldn't be picked until his SANFL form warrants it ;)

I think the big difference in the SANFL is there's no big broadcaster paying the salaries of players with payment depending on games being played.

With Respect, do you think that fitting in a game or two will “save“ the AFL?

Financially all businesses around the world are facing a not so brave new world. Many businesses will be technically bankrupt in a month or two (airlines, travel companies, cruise lines, hotel groups).

The default on loans will mean the banks are next to go.

Do governments around the world have the capacity to save the banks when the world economy comes to a grinding halt (not many Fiats coming out of Italy right now). Most major OECD countries have government debt of more than 100% of annual GDP (fortunately from a Federal Government point of view we are much better off).

What happens next?

The bankruptcy of the AFL is the least of our problems. Once we get through this, a national football league will return, it may or may not be the AFL. The Crows will survive.

Oh of course thats the difference, I wasnt suggesting otherwise.

This is all about money, not about taking into account all advice

No I don’t, but 2 weeks here, lots of crammed in games later, if they can get a bulk of games completed then that’s going to be better than nothing.

As for the world economy I know, but if you can save one industry that’s obviously going to help.

It sounds like Sydney is one of the teams not happy to be playing round 1, may be they won't be playing as hard, we could really beat up on them If we really want to win

Probably because they knew they had to travel, id imagine travelling teams wouldnt be pleased

Anyone else find it amusing that during the Essendon saga we kept hearing how the players and their family's safety was at risk. Hence those in charge were (rightfully ) punished.

And yet with most workplaces and sport across the world shutting down to.protect people and be as safe as.possible these Muppets (The AFL players) want to go ahead with games. Even though it means increasing the exposure of themselves, their families and the community as a whole.

And also to the coaching staff, trainers, water runners, umpires etc who are forced to be at the ground at the same time. I am very surprised they are going ahead with round 1. Can't see it lasting more than a week or 2 though, as soon as 1 player or someone involved with any of the 18 clubs get infected, they will have to shut the whole league down.

I'll tell you what is bullshit 16 minute quarters with added time on......what exactly is that supposed to achieve? They're either playing or they're not.

Yeah. I think we need to set up goggle boxes for fans and feed that back to the big screen at the oval, with sound, to stimulate the home side! ;)

There's an idea... maybe the club can just set up a conference call for us to all dial into, we can yell and cheer over the phone and they can pipe it through the PA at the ground? :p

Or maybe they'll just have a recording of crowd noise and play that over the PA like they sometimes do with music etc between goals. Canned cheering... the sporting equivalent of sitcoms canned laughter?

Yeah I don’t like it either. Only reason could be is for workload...so guess is a real possibility we may be playing next game in 5-6 days

If they plan on playing games in quick succession, it’s effectively a qtr they will have not have to play

Still think it's bullshit with a 44 man roster available, so what if a few youngsters get opportunities they might not have got in normal circumstances. These are not normaltimes.

Maybe they got advice from Pyke on the risk of playing kids

Do you think that it is actually going to have much of an impact on the workload of players? I imagine that we will see the better players play similar game to what they would anyway. Smith is trained to play X number of minutes per game, I doubt we will leave him on the bench to save his legs for the next game when he is capable of playing for longer. I think that we will also see games of slightly higher intensity. I think both of those things will lead to the majority of players working just as hard as they would have during regular length games.
