Thoughts and opinions on what you expect from our youngsters this year?
What excites you about them?
Players pushing for regular selection?
More about such players such as Siggins, Atkins, Ellis-Yolmen and our rookies.

My crystal balls are telling me:

Matt Crouch and Riley Knight to push for selection and get 3 to 5 games.

Battersby and/or Cameron to be upgraded at some stage under LTI rule or Round 11 rule and get a taste.

Lyons will have trouble remaining ahead of Matt Crouch.

Siggins and Ellis-Yolmen will need injuries to push into best 22. Hartigan should get game time though.

Atkins. His chances improve due to our SANFL side. Wait and see.

Grigg should push for best 22 and play a lot of AFL football. Much more than Tamblings "a lot of football".

Cameron will be an excitement machine. If Porps can't turn his form around Cameron will push past Pets and Porps before too long.

Looking for consolidation from Laird and Brown. Brown to add rebounding out of defence to his set of strings like Talia started to do last year.

I also think that this year, gold passes have been handed back. Slight niggles will mean opportunity for those waiting in the wings.

Don't know enough about our rookies to comment either way. I suspect Matt Crouch might surprise, getting considerably more than the standard 2-4 "taster" games. I'm thinking 10-12 is not outside the realms of possibility, given the messages coming out of the club.

Other than that, I think you're pretty close to the mark.

I thought one of the knocks on Crouch was that he had a poor tank at this stage due to playing cricket whilst his contemporaries were doing Pre-Season?

I expect Kerridge will have a big year. He's my tip to replace VB. If Kerridge can pull off some more performances like the game against North, he should cement his spot in the side. Other than that, would love to see Battersby or Cameron get a game or two.

Not expecting too much from Matt Crouch this year, a couple of games would be more than I expect. Once he can get a few preseasons under his belt and build up that tank, I think he could be a draft steal. Considering this is his first footy preseason, his tank can only get better.

The best thing about Crouch in my opinion is the fact he has a poor tank and isn't yet ultra professional like some other kids, yet still racked up 38 touches a game..... That is monster upside..

Indeed it is, but does he actually have the physical ability to play lots of games this year? Genuinely asking here, as I haven't had much time to read up on how the pre-season has been going.

There's a puff piece in the Ragvertiser today suggesting that he may be in the running for a gig in the R1 team. If he achieves that then he will have made a very impressive start to his AFC career.

That said, I'm expecting him to run out of steam mid-season, given his well documented lack of fitness when he arrived at the club. It takes a few years to build a fitness base and I'm guessing he'll struggle to run out games in the second half of the season as a result. That's not slagging him off - I still have very high expectations of him in the longer term - it's just a realistic appraisal of where I think he is at. Expect him to burn brightly early, before fading mid-season, going back to the SANFL to recover once his ability to recover from week to week becomes compromised.

Yeah I agree... I think he may be a bit of a one position type player as well which will make it a bit tougher in his early years to get a game

Said it before and I'll say it again, Matt Crouch could be the super sub for this year. How many times was Gaff sub in his first year? I reckon MC may exceed this.

He's the type of bloke who could come on for the 4th and get 15 touches. Can't wait to see him in action tomorrow!

I am of the opinion if someone looks the goods, can play in the best 22, lets play them and give them every shot to develop at senior level. Lets face it that performance today shows he is too good for SANFL level and it would be wasting his time other than to gain as much fitness as possible. Those fitness issues can be resolved by dropping him every now and then for a rest.

I'm sure it was just an oversight by the OP but can the mods add the S to "YOUNGTERS" in the Thread title, otherwise we'll have people thinking this is the Powa board....:)

I really can't wait to see kerridge keep on improving he is going to be a champion for us the good thing I like about him is he is a goalkicking midfielder he adds a lot of x factor to our side. I really think he will be like Bernie Vince maybe better we'll have to wait and see
