Adrian Dodoro: Football’s Biggest Fraud IMO

Were it not for Essendon he'd probably go undrafted and would hold an assistant role. He's not completely useless, but his track record shows that he cannot be the guy having the final say.

Youd want him at the trade table, but not overseeing the list as a whole. Have the list manager tell him "Right. This is the bloke we want, you go lure him and get the deal done".

It takes 4-5 years to get a idea on how well a recruiting and list management is going. SOS is a tough one to gauge his time at GWS due to the draft concessions and due to list management decisions that had to be made due to list size and also salary cap reasons.

Unless your trying to rub it in Carlton supporters face and show there recruiting has been every bit as ordinary as the Bombers I don't really see they need for a comparison.

Our draftinf since 2015 (when SOS took over) has been a lot better than Essendon's. It's just that Silvagni cleared the decks and pretty much started from scratch.

I think the same

He's great at the trade table but when it comes to drafting talent not so much
Why is he great?

Aside from offering players the opportunity to play on ANZAC Day, Dreamtime at the G and play in front of 60k people every week - what has he done?

He's good at selling the club to potential recruits that's why.

Is it possible to be bad at selling what Essendon can offer though?

They're one of only 3 Vic clubs that can offer marquee games.

I actually think that's the true myth of Dodoro. He gets credit for luring guys to a club that gets a fixture that all plauers dream of.

It's not exactly a hard sell.

It's easy to get the perception from the outside, that Dodoro's ego is the problem.

He MUST land the biggest fish. Even if that type of player isn't really what they need.

Like a spoilt child - he has to have them.

Further to that, he MUST 'win' each trade. It's so short sighted.
This usually results in no trade being done - which although Dodoro can beat his chest that he didn't lose and stood his ground like a hero, it also means they don't improve their list gradually and steadily. His ego gets in the way of bigger picture best interests of the club.

And finally, he won't let guys leave. His ego means he ends up paying duds like Laverde big bucks to retain them, when it's clearly in everyone's best interest for players to move on in many cases.

It's like he's collecting footy cards, not building a team.

But as I've said before, the Essendon fans are to blame. They laud s**tness like no other supporter base in world sport.
Yeah it’s one thing to recruit talented players, it’s another to recruit talented players that work well together.

Essendon fans and the media have loved to look at the individual talent of the players they’ve brought in but not at whether they fill holes and combine well with the rest of the team.

Dodoro in recent times has brought in a heap of outside types. Not surprisingly they look good when everything is clicking. When things get tough the team struggles.

Either he’s oblivious to the fact that the Bombers lack some toughness and bigger bodies through the middle or he just doesn’t rate those types m.

Aside from landing big fish that want to play in front of 70k people every week (a lure which only 2 other clubs have), what has he done to suggest he's not completely useless?
he's a so so drafter
Merrett, Redman, Fantasia, Hooker - some good drafting
Morgan, Steinberg, Kavanagh, Houlahan - some not so good drafting

Trading has been good. Saad, Shiel, Smith and Stringer have all been excellent ins.

We have ignored the importance of a mobile ruck for a long time. Losing Ryder hurt. We haven't replaced him...it's been 5 years.
Inside mids. We had Jobe, Goddard, Hocking and Myers. Slowly they all retired. Dylan Clarke is the only pure inside mid we got to replace all 4.

The profile of our mids is too similar as well.
Shiel, Merrett, McGrath, Parish, Smith.
Heppell and Langford are the next bunch of tall mids - both are flankers turned mids.

2 most important positions to get your game going
A ruck that gives you first use
A mid or two that will get their hands to it first.

Cannot recall the last time we drafted or traded these in

There are obvious deficiencies in the balance of the list and he’s had ample time to address them and failed. It’s indefensible.
the only defence is who was there to get?
I cant think of too many top level rucks or inside mids that have moved when we were able to attract talent again

But it's not wrong. Has to do something about the inside accumulator/distributor to compliment Shiel, Merrett and co.
And given its been a while since we brought a ruck in, one has to wonder wtf he's thinking ignoring the position that gives you first use.

He's a tradie in a professor's job
Has managed a list where we've signed good targets and not lost much due to salary cap pressure.
That's a tick

That we're ridiculously unbalanced in the inside mid, KPF and ruck division is not a tick
Hopefully signing Phillips, Bonar and Cutler, plus keeping Daniher will help that out.

No Bonars at Essendon.
