So he goes missing when he plays Essendon? Odd way to give the guy a plug.

I didn't say he goes missing, I said you put a lot of work into him.

Reckon it's the best Essendon list since Sheedy's time, which perhaps isn't saying all that much.

core (23-27yo): Heppell, Shiel, Tipungwuti, Smith, Daniher, Stringer, Saad, Fantasia, Merrett, McKenna, Gleeson. That is better than a lot of other clubs have. Pound for pound I would say better than my club's equivalent.

veterans (29-31yo): Hooker, Bellchambers, Zaharakis, Hurley, McKernan. Still going OK, only Hooker of the mainstays shows symptoms of being cooked. Bellchambers is only adequate but they have Draper coming through.

youth (<23yo): Parish, McGrath, Redman, Zerk-Thatcher, Clarke, Ham (+ Draper). Not exceptional but not terrible, all show promise of being best 22.

They need to make a decision on Daniher. Another 4-game season and his currency will crash. Either get him right or trade.

They're in far better shape than at least a couple of clubs immediately behind them.
Wrong on your last bit but that's another thread. Shiel is the wrong fit for them, I said that when I got wind they were Interested in him initially. They have a gluttony of outside mids with speed but no inside bulls getting the ball to them. Jack Martin isn't going to fix this. Heppell is a decent inside mid but is not elite IMO and needs a lot more support than he has currently. We have the opposite problem. Lots of inside mids but not enough break the lines outside mids except for Wingard. It's the reason we were chasing both Shiel and Coniglio.

Think Martin plays his best footy as a lead-up forward, Shotgun Williams-style.

Shiel isn't pure outside but yeah, they haven't replaced Watson like-for-like. Maybe Greenwood (Adel) is on their shopping list. Or Guthrie who was dropped for tonight's game.

Is that like when dodo took st kilda for a ride in the jake carlye deal ?something that some Essendon fans still boast even though greasham is ten times the player Francis will ever be we pretty much got caryle for free but somehow they still think dodo won the deal😂
If I remember correctly, and I usually don’t, Essendon wanted pick 5 and Ameet Bains who was list manager at the time stated “we won’t be trading pick 5 for him” then at the very last minute Bain’s said something to the tune of “Oh we were always going to give pick 5 for such a high quality player like Carlisle there’s just no way you couldn’t”

St Kilda got outplayed for sure there

Reckon they've done well with the list since the drugs thing. It's in pretty good shape for the short term. But maybe "the saga" has taken a piece of the club's soul.

Not sure how you confront and fix something like that, but otherwise they seem to have the pieces in place to do better. 8th place isn't terrible, but they often don't perform unless they get conditions to suit. They don't perform unconditionally, and the better teams are comfortable when playing them because of it.

I'm sure the players all believe they're giving 100%, but there's something missing. Worsfold is a good coach. The team's experienced enough without being past its peak. But good teams are more than the sum of their parts, and Essendon aren't.
We lost our soul back in the 80s , took us 37 years with the odd false dawn, Essendon is similar

In hindsight we finished up well in front We gave pick 5 and a 2nd round pick and got back caryle and pick 13 we used that pick on jade greasham who has turned out a much better player then Francis who Essendon took at pick 5 we win the trade on that alone with out counting caryle!

Hmm weird thread. I couldn't actually name a recruiter from another club..
Not entirely sure why people from other clubs cared so much about him.. :thumbsu:

Possibly because in the past, many Essendon fans put him on some kind of pedestal, if not cult hero status. Anyhow it's good that most Bombers fans have now woken up and smelt the coffee. Banter aside, he has been there a very long time now. Time for EFC to make a change.

Stephen Wells and Graham Wright 1 and 2 and it's not even close. Dodoro would be lucky to tie their shoelaces.

Not sold on Stephen Wells being in the top tier any more, wasted a few first rounders on the likes of Cockatoo and Darcy Lang.

The Brisbane Lions recruiting manager (whoever he is) has done a wonderful job in recent years, and has to be right up there. Ditto the Eagles and Tigers guys, who still find quality kids in 3rd and 4th rounds of the draft.

yes how dare opposition supporters have heroes!

how about no. I think he got us through a bloody awful time with all the stripped picks, still managed to snag us , Merrett, Parish and Fantasia in that time. Not to mention Smith, Saad, Shiel and Stringer. That's a pretty fair strike rate considering :thumbsu:

That big bodied strong midfielder must be in here somewhere ...

Look at the names that you just mentioned. They are all good players but they are all similar types and not the types you need. When you had decent draft picks you spent them on guys like McGrath who is also a similar type player. You must realise that Essendon need inside mids and a decent ruckman? Unfortunately Dodoro has swapped all of your 1st rounders for these outside "icing-on-the-top" players and forgot to add the cake that holds them up.

I love how the wide football community hates Dodoro because how hard he negotiates with other teams.

I'd rather a list manager that gets the best deals, rather than one who bends over when pressured e.g SOS.
I’d rather a list manager that can pit together a good balanced list and identifies players that fill a positional need rather then needing to get a trade done just because it’s trade week.
Maybe I’m just crazy though.
