Hmmm...

Seems to me like he is making excuses for taking a Ruck/KPP already... My money is on Lachie Henderson.

I personally would like a ball winning midfielder, e.g Masten or Palmer...

Guess we'll find out in a few weeks!

unlike carlton everyone forgets that we lost draft picks as well. to further damage us it also hurt when our best young midfielder (rama 1st rnd pick) was struck down with cancer. you can't predict that happening. our drafting isn't that bad - i don't know a side that has made the finals as often as essendon in the last 20 years. you can't judge too much over a small window of 3 years or so - no doubt there's been mistakes made in the draft but that happens at every club. the biggest problem would have been sheedy taking players such as cole, heffernan, camporeale etc. you can't blame recruiters for that as their job is to identify young talent outside the afl. however there is pressure on dodoro to get pick 6 right this year but tell me picks such as hille at 40 and gumbleton/jetta last year weren't correct.

i'm not rating our midfield players as highly as others here and do agree that a dynamic midfielder has to be our no.1 priority. we already have 4 young kpp's that the club has a high opinion of in darcy daniher, ryder, gumbleton, neagle. i say one of the popular mids at 6 (palmer, masten etc), a quick defender (alex rance or similar) at 23, developing kpp at 55 and take a recycled player at 71 or in the psd.

then rookie list a young ruckman as its unlikely an 18yo would be pushing anywhere near hille or laycock for at least two years.

oh and i wouldn't want dodoro coming out and telling all the others what we want - the draft and trading is a game of poker at times.

Hille, meh! Give me a consistent ruckman that can compete with the other clubs' no. 1 rukman! I'm no fan, terrible ruckman... TERRIBLE!

What a bunch of gutless internet hacks! At least back up what you're saying with some reasons.

Shane Harvey and James Davies were awful selections. In fact, the 2000 and 2001 drafts were spectacularly forgettable for us. But other than that, we've recruited pretty well over the last 8-10 years.

In the last 5 years we've recruited Ryder, Gumby, Dempsey, Davey, Neagle, Hislop, Jetta, Reimers, Houli, Monfries, Slattery, Stanton, Nash, Lovett, Lovett-Murray, Watson, Laycock, Winders and a few others. I reckon almost all of them will have good careers for our club.

No doubt we've had some misses along the way, but unless we find some recruiters with crystal balls, there'll always be misses. I think the club have lost Kepler needlessly...he should've got more than a handful of games this year, so if he wanted to go, I can't really blame him. As mentioned, Davies and Harvey were poor selections, but both were essentially early 2nd round picks. Most of our other early picks have been quite good. McVeigh, Rama, Winders, Laycock, Gus, Stants, Ryder and hopefully Dempsey, Gumby, Hislop and Leroy will be great players.

Guys like MJ, Rioli, Pev, Hille, Welsh, Slattery, Lovett and NLM have been outstanding mid to late draft or rookie draft picks as well.

Having champion KPPs such as Fletch, Lloyd and Lucas in palce for well over a decade...not to mention the great man James Hird, our best recruits of the last decade have usually been seen as their supporting cast, rather than the main show. With James gone and the other 3 to follow in the next few years, a few guys will be forced to step out from behind their shadows....hopefully a few will do it sooner.

Hahahahahahahahahaha

People with brains might realise that 17 players were taken before Kerr was selected. Just because we picked up a hack, it doesn't discount the fact that several other clubs selected player far inferior to Kerr within the first round. Even the Eagles rated Andrew McDougall significantly higher.

Yes I do relise that. Look up the word hindsight. ;)

Hmmmm, classy, but obviously lazy... lazy doesn't win flags! Unless he had a thyroid defect then I don't think there's much excusing Mr. Rioli.

No doubting his natural talent, but he limped to 100 games!

because he had a stuffed knee and a hamstring that constantly went in sympathy. He was lazy in his early years, but in the later years when he had found the commitment required his body wouldn't let him do the work. That's my view anyway.

Essendon List Manager discusses 2007 draft

Monday, 29 October 2007
Essendon List manager, Adrian Dodoro, is about to head into the most important month of his year with the 2007 NAB national draft being held on November 24.

"We will pick the best player available. We could do with a great ruckman, a great midfielder and a great forward but every club can," Dodoro said.

"People say we need midfielders but they tend to forget that last year we drafted a lot of midfielders like Jetta, Davey, Reimers and Houli."

Essendon has some good early picks in 2007 with pick 6 and 23 and have already used pick 39 on Darcy Daniher. The Bombers also have pick 55.

"We are confident of getting a top player. We will pick up young players and we think this will be a good draft for us," he said.

When will this bloke learn, are we going to draft another tall forward and try to make him a defender like Johns. We have heaps of forwards and just delisted another tall forward in bradley cause there is no room. Gumby, Johns, Neagle, Daniher, Resting ruckman is enough.

We will pick up young players, whet does he think the national draft is for, if you want a middle aged or older player thats the psd not the national draft. Glad he took time out of his busy schedule for that interview, the sooner the door hits him in the ass the better, Duddoro.

Here's a question, with Fremantle leaving the door ajar for Ben Cousins as per afl.com.au, where would that leave Bradley if hypothetically Freo picked up Cousins in the PSD. Would Freo use pick 56 for Kepler... or would Essendon re-draft him in the PSD if nothing better is going???

Never been a big wrap of his. Still having nightmares over James Davies, next selection D. Kerr

Probably a little tough, hindsight is a wonderful thing...

Anyone who saw Davies play as an U18 would agree he was a super midfielder at his age. Most were expecting him to go 2nd round, but then Ted Richards was touted as a 1st rounder so they just got swapped. Sheeds never did Davies any favours - played sparodically and never able to get a decent gig in the magoos. Was not developed.

He didn't necessarily say a tall forward, he said a great forward.

Addam Maric could be on the radar, for pick 23 at least.

Davies was never up to it. People can blame Sheedy for whatever they like, but not the failure of James Davies.

of course we need another ruckman, we only have 2!! We have delisted Cartledge, O'Keeffe, McKinnon (rookie) over the last 3-4 years, as well as Bradley who could pinch in the ruck. Other than Hille and Laycock, the next one is Ryder, who should not be exposed just yet (body wise).

Wasn't the interview on the website filmed? IAren't the quotes everyone is referring to from this article just snippets of what he said??

Its a mth before the draft, what do you guys think he is going to say? Oh yeah, we've been hiding this kid in the NT, bottom age, we'll take him with our round 4 pick.

Get a grip.

Is it unreasonable to refer to Adrian Dodoro as "Adrian DUD-ORO". Which loosely translates to "Adrians Fools Gold". Which I think is fairly appropriate we gave up pick 6 for Kepler Bradley. But that said 2003 draft in retrospect was a pungent one! After Kepler there was Jed Adcock, Michael Rischitelli and Heath Shaw (from picks 40+).

What about all the other recruiting managers that overlooked them?

What about W/C who have now delisted Sampi, pick 5

What about Adelaide who delisted Pfeiffer pick 17 after 2 years and traded Meeson pick 8

How about Geelongs recruiter who also passed up those players for Tenace?

etc etc etc

Why are you bringing Heath Shaw into it? We had absolutely no chance of getting him.

It was a poor draft no doubt, I still think we could have done better than Dud Bradley!

His draftgin recently hasn't been bad. And how much clout did sheedy have at the draft table.

the other thing - how many people are instantly successful when they take on a new position at work?

Perhpas he is getting better with time?

Andf to be truthful - guys like Meeson and McDougall and Tenace are proof why you draft the beast available talent, not the best availbel for what you want. Let's just put our faith in the people with the most knowledge on who is the best. Also, the club has an agenda - to win a flag - you thnk we are going to intentionally try and balls it up?

1. Everyone looked over Jed Adcock and Michael Rischitelli.

2. Heath Shaw was a f/s.

Well if the super coach didnt play him out of position and **** him up we may have got more from him. Would have been nice to see him given some time to develop with Bendigo but no once he showed any sort of promise he was sent to the wolves and played on any gun forward that was going around. All of this in a postion he had never played before coming to us.
You can blame the recruiters all you like but the coach ****ed this guy up.

I agree Sheeds played this bloke the wrong way and the Essendon football club should never have let him go. All this talk about not keeping him because all our forward positions are full is nonsense, tell me when a bloke thats almost 200cm and covers the ground well didn't come in handy? He won Bendigo's b and f and should have been given a chance in 2008 to prove his capabilities at AFL level. I think all you so called fans that have potted him on this web site should feel ashamed - are you supporters or bandwagon jumpers?
