Freeman signing on for our SANFL squad would be excellent. He would have seen the chance we gave to Keays and maybe he could be the same if he can stay on the park he is extremely talented.

Don't want to rain on parade but Freeman not eligible for Crows SANFL team. As Freeman is 26 years old.

- Any delisted AFL player who has not played AFL or State League, or been on an AFL list for the past 12 months (previously 24 months), can be supplementary listed to play SANFL for AFC or PAFC.

Those rules are in the process of being tinkered with, due to the expected reduced players being available due to covid during the year.

I’d rather a curtain lowerer. That way the emergency gets a game as would the concussion sub if not used. And it’s surely better for allowing people without AO tickets getting in for just the SANFL.

It would be much better that way
Could run the SANFL guys onto the field the second the AFL team leaves, so minimal time between games.
Whereas the other way around they'll need about a 90 minute gap for all the various crap the teams, officials and broadcasters consider important

Why was it traditionally in the past they played reserves games before the main game in the SANFL?
Was it just timing so that the main game was played in the prime time and finished at a time convenient for people to go home? Would probably mean playing reserves when the sun has set if reserves were played after the main game.
These days though, with grounds having good lighting, they probably could play reserves after the main game.
Also would be better if you did need to sub a player from the main game with someone from the reserves, who would not have already played a game.
Ed. Actually, while we're playing our reserves games in the SANFL, I can't see SANFL clubs too keen to having their game after our AFL game ... could feel a bit of a let down. Supporters of the other SANFL club would probably be less likely to come to a match late in the day?
If there was an AFL set up reserves comp and we were in it, playing reserves after the main game might be an option.

Agree, seven hours is a long time to be at the football. I think unless there is something special about the game like Tex returning through the SANFL most games will be played in front of a few thousand.
The cost of opening the stadium even in it's basic form for an AFL match day make it fairly prohibitive.

We added Sauce to work as a mid/ruck Dev coach, but haven't done a like for like replacement for Radar. Still with the same number of coaches in the SANFL team with Godden, Bello and Wright there.

Odd that Sam Breuer was still playing basketball for the Horsham Hornets on the weekend...Perhaps he had that commitment before heading over to Adelaide. no problems with his fitness he's an absolute running machine? Couple of handy footballers there in his team Matty Lloyd and Mitch Martin who would also be worth a SANFL spot.

"Non-Victorian clubs have voiced strong opposition to an AFL plan which would see them create lists of 20 top-ups for each team linked to their own state-league side.
The league has been canvassing individual clubs after presenting the plan last week as the centrepiece of its plan to avoid postponed games through omicron this year.
Under one league model, each club would pick 20 players linked to their state-league side who would be eligible to play AFL games in the event of a widespread club outbreak.
Clubs such as Richmond, Geelong, Essendon and Hawthorn have their own VFL side or an affiliated team, so could easily secure 20 players who were on that VFL list, or were top-ups who regularly played with that side.
But many non-interstate teams believe their potential top-ups are of a much weaker standard than those who populate the VFL in search of a chance to play AFL.
Adelaide and Port Adelaide have equalisation rules that ensure the talent is spread across the SANFL so the two AFL clubs do not dominate the state-league competition.
It means their potential pool of top-ups are considered thin compared to AFL clubs which could call upon a much deeper and more talented group.
The feedback has been passed on to the league, with one proposed remedy allowing WA and South Australian clubs access to all state-league players in their states as top-ups."
Earlier article had about 27 players of ex AFL experience in SANFL. If we broke that down to SANFL Academy split. AFC with Sturt , North, Centrals and Glenelg.
I have made up an imagery rules that would help. Players and SANFL be financially compensated. Minimum $100K which is $5k per player to be on standby. Standard AFL match payment to player and equivalent to SANFL and club

WOuld be good if we could pick players from any state league. IF we need players it would be better to get someone like Ronan O'Connor than a random SANFL player that does not understand any AFL structures.
