Talking about licence's How did the AFL or Sony get around St.Kilda
They have X-Box on their shorts, I'll bet X-Box is not on St.Kildas shorts there in the game.
XBox is on their shorts in the demo. It's not very clear, but if you watch the instant replay, and zoom in when someone goes for a mark, and position the camera correctly, you can see it. Maybe it's still there because of last year's models?
Maybe AFL have the rights to all the teams, including there outfits, and anything that goes with it????
Dunno, but it's still there.

Yes your correct from how I understand it, The AFL have Rights to everything the players wear (like today's story about players being fined for wearing short socks) the team songs etc. That is how they think they will make Essendon & Collingwood wear a alternative strip.
However I wonder what Microsoft would think of seeing one of their Trademarks on a Computer game made exclusively by a company that is in direct opposition to it's XBOX. Not that I'm pro MS by the way, they buy up any small company with a good software idea straight away.!!

One would have to assume Ir Guru or Sony would of got permission.

Is the deal like some previous Sony exclusive games like GTA where it's released on ps2 and then on other systems later? or is this ps2 exclusive. Very dissapointing for PC users.

Well let Sony and IR Gurus know

Like I have for what it is worth!!

I read the review in the Playstation2 magazine and they gave it 8/10.
They said it's a huge improvement on 2005.
The "Official Playstation 2" Magazine gave AFL Premiership 2005 an 8 out of 10, which built my hopes up for last years game, only to be completely shattered. It sounds good, and for $64, i'll probably get it pretty quick by the sounds of things

Yep it didnt bother me, i was in a shop and just wanted a quick game, even if it was against the Crows.

I did have big doubts and those have been erased after playing this. So as Black Mamba said, a harsh critic like me has played it so you will like it, and lads like ilnino and matera goal will cream themselves. 500% improvement i reckon.
Great! I am so damn excited! Only a week away! Its like the feeling when youre a kid and it's Christmas Eve for me :D

Oh and about the bolded text - well it's uh... a bit late

P.S Italic text for comedic purposes only. Please don't make fun of me :p

No point writing to us about pc or xbox versions. Write to the AFL as they are the ones who signed exclusively with Sony.

For me, "full stop" means ".". "." isn't something that makes sense to me.

hehe I guess its an American aspect of English but I still assumed you'd know it. It's mostly used in the same way as 'End Of'.

On palgn.com.au they rated afl 06 2.5/5 while they rated afl 05 3/5,
Probably isnt a big thing but ??

A slightly ill-informed review there...

1. The side-on camera has always been in the AFL games. Just go to options/camera and voila!

2. The d-pad brings up the tactics setups on-the-fly so you don't have to pause the game to change them.

Hawk, you asked for suggestions for next year's version a couple of pages back, so here's a couple of ideas off the top of my head for controls for the next version. Bare in mind I haven't played a version of the game since 2003, but here's a couple of idea's I think would work and work pretty well (if implemented correctly of course).

RIGHT ANALOG - QUICK KICK
Every other sports game these days is using the analog sticks to re-invent their games, why not use it with AFL? My idea would be to use the right stick as a 'quick kick' button. The idea would be to tap the stick in the direction you want to kick the ball, irrespective of which way the player is facing. Running toward the ball and want to quickly kick it the same way to avoid being tackled? Tap it the same direction. Want to snap one over your head on the goal line quickly? Tap it toward the goal. Running to goal on a very tight angle and spot an open team mate 40 out directly in front? Press in the direction of your team mate. Have a bit more time and want to snap a bomb into the forward line? Hold it in the goal direction a bit longer...perhaps utilize a power bar Pro Evo style.

See where I'm heading? Using the right analog stick to direct your kick in the direction you want it to go would open up a whole new level of control in my opinion. Of course an accuracy factor will need to be assigned to it. If you're running away from goal and try and snap it over your head, obviously there would need to be a high chance that the kick is completely fluffed and it would never be able to travel more than 10m in the air, but it gives you the option of trying for that quick, small forward snap out of the pack on the goal line...or using your skilled midfielder to kick across his body to a team mate without having to change direction and load up your kick. By using the player's skill rating and the amount of variation in your attempted kick direction from your player's direction of motion, I think you could create a reasonable 'risk vs reward' scenario. It would give you the option of having more control over your kicking, but also put in a fair amount of risk of the kick going completely wrong if you try to be too clever with a so-so player. Obviously it would need a fair bit of testing as the last thing you would want would it to be too unreliable to use or be too powerful allowing impossible kicks everytime, but implemented correctly I think this would be the next step up in controls AFL games would need.

On top of that you could then hold down a trigger or shoulder button to have the same control over handballs. And of course you would still need a kick button if you didn't like using the stick. I guess it would kind of be like the 'shot stick' in NBA 2K6...except better ;)

PASSING WINDOWS
Here's my solution to the 'finding team mates' problem when in side view mode. Why not utilize the old, Madden-style passing windows? Press a button, quickly survey 3-4 passing options as presented to you in little windows assigned to different buttons, and choose which one you want to kick to. Again, make the accuracy factor involved in the kick relative to the players skill and the direction the player with the ball is moving relative to the direction he is trying to kick the ball. The windows would pop up on the area of the screen that the selected player is in. Perhaps a coloured arrow in the windows showing which way the player is leading or about to lead, with a green arrow showing they are leading to space, a red one to a pack. Hell, by combining the use of a shoulder button in this mode you could even call a player to lead, then kick to him!!

The only possible problem I see with this mode would be running out of buttons as you I would still want the option of being able to kick with a button or handball or evade should you not see anything you like or your player is running into trouble. But it should work, again if done correctly.

Well there you have it, my long-winded suggestions for implementing a HELL of a lot more control into AFL games that could truly take them to another level. I realise these would be a lot of work for you and your workmates Hawk, but if you are looking for a way to evolve the controls of the game, I think these or something similar would be a step in the right direction.

Naturally should they find their way into the next game I expect a slice of the profits ;)

Picko

Great ideas Picko, will definitely put them on the table for discussion.

I have a general question for everyone...would you like additional controls where for example (and don't take this as gospel by any stretch of the imagination) the right analogue stick performed evasive manouevers and the shoulder buttons were used to body players in ruck/marking contests (similar to posting up in basketball). Is it too much? Do we need these controls? Just let me know what you think and if you have any higher priority controls you want implemented tell me about them too.

FH

The bodying up with a shoulder button could work Hawk, allowing you to truly utilise a strong marking forward against a mismatch. I like it.

As for evasion, personally I think a button is enough. I would rather have the extra control and options with kicking than a bunch of different ways to evade a tackle. But that's just my opinion, others may feel differently. Considering I don't even have a PS2 and am unlikely to buy the game anyway, you may choose to listen to them more than me ;)

I like the idea. Right analog stick for evasive manouevers sounds great.
I would like to see stuff like that implemented. If these were added, they should just be additional stuff, that would only determine the match between two experienced gamers. Whereas two beginners could play for the first time and be able to cope without them.

Hawk thanx for all this great info. i hav a question for u, is it true that in career mode u hav a slary cap? this would really suk if it is true because u would not be able to hav reivowldt, pavlich and judd in the same team?

Yeah but at least that would be realistic!!

THe best thing to do is have an option like in some NBA games ive played, you can turn the cap on or off.

The more controls the better. ie Madden 06! Took me probably a year to figure out every different thing you can do in that bloody game!

yeah that's true, there is a salary cap. The way around it? Have a lot of cheaper players on your team and load up with a small group of gun players I guess. No option for turning the salary cap on/off unfortunately but I'll make note of it to include it in 07.
