Hey Fiery Hawk,
Just wondering, when you said the online side of things was taken out of the game, did that include LAN play mode too?
I guess it would have seeing as they're very similar.
Also, I noticed that on rare occasions in marking contests, there is an even larger circle around the spot where the ball will land. It's the same color as whatever colour controller you assignment you use (i,e Controller 1 is Blue, Controller 2 is Red). That makes it four circles around the contest (A grey shrinking one, an green inner one, an orange one further out, and finally this new (say Blue) one on the outside). It stays the same size the entire time. Just wondering what it's used for? Is it for speckies?

BTW guys, don't know if this has been mentioned before, but if you look closely to one of those videos (the 'The First Quarter' one) you'll notice that some players like Robert Harvey, James Hird, Nick Riewoldt have a star instead of a normal circle under them to show they're selected . That means you can recognise your key players and try to direct the play through them!!!

From the vids and also the reviews on the game thus far,
it looks to me to be a genuine improvement on previous versions.

It probably allready been covered and im aware the version we are seeing is only a demo, however i would hope that the length of the kicking has been slightly restricted on the big bomb.

And also i noticed Left footed players such as Gehrig and Lloyd in there vids, taking set shots with there right foot, hopefully that is changed to there preffered Left Foot, but again , its nothing major.

One other general thing in gameplay, it looks very much end to end marking, probly woulda been a nice touch and a bit more realistic if kicks dont always hit there targets and if players occasionally spill the ball to the ground.

The rest of the thing looks ok. :thumbsu:

Fiery Hawk said that it was corrected in the final version of the game.

Apparently on the run they'll kick with whatever side they're on, or forced on. So if its their opposite, the accuracy of the kick won't be as good as for their preferred side. For set shots, here's what Fiery Hawk said about them.
Fiery Hawk said:
I personally went through and put left or right for all players in the data. So all players should kick with their preferred foot. Unfortunately there is some old code dealing with set shots that basically says depending on which side of the ground the player is he'll probably use that foot (e.g. left side of the field facing the goals left foot, right side of field facing the goals right foot). This mainly deals with left footed players. Right footed players always kick with the preferred foot unless forced onto the left. The effectiveness of their non-preferred foot is reduced. The old code has been removed for 07.
Overall though there's a huge majority who kick on their preferred foot.
So it seems like the set shots may be on the opposite foot in 06, but should be OK for 07. But like you said, it's nothing major, I'm pretty sure we can put up with it.

Yeah no LAN play. Just the 1-4 players standard affair.

The blue circle is a carry on from your controller input. It basically means you a) pressed the kick button a second time or b) the tackle button one too many times that it carried on to the marking scenario and counted as your input for the marking contest. It's basically an early button press on the marking contest given that you're controller 1 which is blue.

Yes star players have a star as their selection state. Stars are also visible next to their names in team lists. Star players are guys who have ratings of 100 in certain areas. Depending on what areas are rated 100 defines them as certain types of stars. E.g. A guy with the star rating of 'ENGINE' has a rating of 100 in stamina and durability.

So is there a remote possiblity it might get realeased on time for once, Fiery Hawk?

I've always thought it would be released on time (20th July) but I saw official advertising signage at the MCG on Sat that said July 21st so we might be a day late...forgiven? :p

Also the TV commercials are set to be shown during Ch.10 games in July so keep an eye out. They should have been showing on the weekend.

yea saw the signs yesterday at the G, first time i have heard about the new AFL game so i thought i'd quickly pop on here to check it out. All i found was 70 odd pages of discussion.

Just a few questions:
Is the snap shot easier in this game? I, for the life of me, couldn't figure it out in the last one, I liked having the separate button for it like in PE.
And when you take a mark (say in the back lines or the middle of the ground) does the view goe behind the player like in PE so you can see who's presenting and exactly where you're kicking?

It's pretty much the same as last year's, not PE. The idea is you initially have the direction you're running in, start the power of the kick, and before you let go of the kick button you change the direction of the analog stick to point in the direction you want to snap.

Only if you have End Pan as the camera angle. In side view, it stays on the side, and the only real way of seeing where your players are is by looking at the radar.

Here's what I thought should be implemented in the 07 version.

If that is the case, that the camera stays on side view after completing a mark or a free kick, then I think that is horrible. I may be wrong but not being able to see who you are kicking it too, especially if your're looking for a star player to kick to, then that is close to being ludicruous, ha.

Allowing the User to see up the field with a camera change is something I fought long and hard for but wasn't able to get into the game. The good news however is that it is going to be implemented for 2007 and will be at a different height/angle to allow you to identify who is where on the field and by how much they are clear of their opponent.

Another addition we are looking at making (from feedback gathered on forums) is that we need to show in side view where your team mates are up the field.

The idea is to have sliding icons along the side of the screen that fade in/out depending on how close your team mates is. On these icons will be numbers that go up/down depending on distance so you can work out how big to make the kick. If you are kicking to the right of screen for example, icons at the top of the right side of the screen mean the leading player is on the left side of the field as you are heading to goal. Icons will slide up and down the screen depending on the direction the lead is taking.

This is one of the ideas that will help when the ball is being carried up the field. For free-kicks/stoppage situations we'll use the end pan camera but make it useful for seeing up the field.

The game is the result of 70 odd pages of discussion. It really addresses a lot of the gaming publics concerns from previous years.

Awesome, that's exactly what I wanted. A camera angle for marks and frees that's equivalent to the current kick-outs camera angle. But Fiery Hawk, you'll notice that a lot of people like different camera angles from others. So the more customisable, the better. Just like I posted here:

That sounds great. So for people like me who love the TV style game play, you can spot Who your surrounding teammates are, Which Direction they are, and How Far Away they are. I suppose if you pay close attention, you could also see if they are running towards you on a lead, or away from you on a quick counter attack by seeing the shade of their indicators fade in or out.

So when you take a mark on side view you wont be able to see up the field??? What a joke! That ****ed me right off in the last game, why the hell wouldnt they put it in?

And that end pan cam... does that mean when you steal the ball in defence, the camera will spin around so you are now facing the other way?? in old versions i found that ****ing ridiculous, pick up the ball and go to shoot off a quick clearing handball, but the camera spins so your handball goes the wrong way to an opposition forward and its an easy goal.

Yeah, that's true. What would you think about a Madden style spin around. When there's a turnover in Madden, the play kinda pauses for a second, while the camera does a quick, Matrix-style 180 degree rotation around the player intercepting the ball. This allows you to get your bearings quickly.
The problem is, in AFL the possession changes way more often, and then my suggestion seems too dramatic and eventually annoying, but it would help you out with those backwards handballs.

What Rooster Lad said. I thought that was close to the biggest con in the game, and it drove me bloody crazy :( I thought everyone mentioned for this to be changed throughout the 80 pages, but no deal. Disappointing. Why was it lost in the first place. Was implemented in the first 3 editions.

Like I stated before...the ability to view down the field from a mark/free kick will return in 07 in the side view. Sorry that we couldn't get it in for 06. I know it's popular and I agree totally that it should be in there.

I'm curious about the end-pan camera however. What do you suggest we do? We could do the Madden style slow down play and spin thing but like BlackMamba said it would get tedious real quick. I wouldn't suggest locking the camera to one direction as it doesn't allow you to organise and select defenders accurately when the ball is in the hands of the opposition. If you have any ideas I'm all ears...I'd really like to get as many options for the cameras in 07 as possible. Just tell me what you want.

Just been informed that JB Hi-Fi are set to sell the game for $64.
:eek::eek::eek: Whoa! What a bargain!

Thing is, I don't think there is a JB Hi-Fi within an hour of where I live, unless I'm mistaken. I think the closest one is all the way over in O'Connor... :(

EDIT: I'll see if they have a website, they'll have a store listing there

EDIT #2: They don't have a store listing :p, but there is a job listing for a JB in Cannington. Hurrah!

$64. hmm, is that already saying something about the game?...

Fiery Hawk, will there be anything like NAB Rising Star nominations or anything along the lines of that?

The game was always intended to be a title in that price range.

The extra awards associated with AFL football were sacrificed in favour of concentration on gameplay with our limited development time. It was a case of getting the core right before adding the fluff. In 2007 we'll be adding the special awards and fleshing out the AFL experience more.

Ok fair enough. Are you considering the options of editing players, for example: player socks down or up, shoulder bandages, etc, or any editing as such in the 2007 version?

Definitely. Hopefully there isn't a lot you can't edit with regards to players. :thumbsu:
