3.0 Graphics:
The game still looks like it is five years old. There are lots of players on field and the frame rate is solid but it feels to us like this game could run quite comfortably on the original PlayStation. Graphical glitches like players running through other players only support this.

3.0 Sound:
The commentary is poor at best, with out-of-context and repetitive comments.

5.5 Gameplay:
The game is a little faster and its easier to see who you're passing too. Glitches and random umpiring decisions bring down the quality of the game though.

7.0 Lifespan:
If you can forgive some of the game's problems then there is plenty to keep you occupied such as the lengthy career mode or the mission mode.

5.5 Overall:
AFL Premiership 2007 is a minor improvement upon its predecessor but still isn't good enough of a game to be wholeheartedly recommended.

I'm dissapointed with the review itself. The on the run goal kicking won't be a happy part.

If these quotes are not in the game then they should be for future versions:

- 'The Magpies ought to be kicking themselves right now, but with their luck, they'd probably miss.'

- 'The goal square's full of Bears. Looks like we've got ourselves a convoy.'

- 'A terrific player . . . terrible scrabble hand.'

- 'went into the pack optimistically and came out misty, optically.'

- 'And the attendance today, 82,000, thanks to the Iraqi Information Minister.'

- "Any time Carlton scores more than 100 points and holds the other team below 100 points they almost always win."
- Lou Richards

- "Strangely, in slow motion replay, the ball seemed to sail through the air for even longer."

- "They didn't change positions, they just moved the players around"
- John (Sam) Newman

- "Kicked wide of the goal with such precision"
- Sandy Roberts

These quotes would be a really good addition to the commentary team. It woulod be something different that the usual stuff, ie: bell kicks to pavlich.

My apologies if any of these comments have already been said or are in the game:):):):)

For some reason I remember Rex Hunt saying once about a kick that tumbled through for a goal.

"It went, it went.....and it kept on wenting!"

Here are some other Commettisms I wish were in the game....

"Bell bringing the ball out of the back line..... looking for wide runners..... passes to Walker... a contradiction in terms, really"

"Farmer may have an injury to his calf........ hmmm, a farmer with a calf problem."

Richmond kicked up the middle towards Ray Hall:
"Richmond attack through the corridor in this case the Hall."

"Ball in dispute, Lamb, now Yze the meat in the sandwich...Really Lamb should be in the sandwich."

well from that review, it seems they havent fixed the umpiring desicions, which is practically all they had to do to make it better, extremely dissapointed

To be honest, Everything the review was critical of was trivial anyway.

"No penalty for bumping a bloke who's taking his kick from a mark"

Don't ****ing do it then!

"Frustrating umpiring"

Isn't that the case in the AFL?

"No sound in the replays"

Big ****ing deal!

Not wanting to sound angry but...it's interesting to note that they thought we were worthy of the same score again this year. This is despite improvement in so many areas.

Graphics 3.0 - hmmm...playstation 1 graphics? Show me a Madden or FIFA title with better quality stadiums and that level of detail. Players running through each other? Give me Madden 08 on PS2/Xbox and I'll very quickly show you player models running through each other. It's common in that generation of games due to memory constraints with collision detection. No mention of depth of field or bloom. The inclusion of retro guernseys seemed popular and you would think that it adds to the graphical appeal of the game.

Gameplay 5.5 - a pass mark apparently. No mention of overhauled cameras, faster responsiveness from input, lead indicators and their functionality, improved kicking of the ball, contested football (although I did agree with the overuse of smothering), player development through training, dynamic difficulty and how it improves the AI as you yourself improve. There are so many improvements to the gameplay this year that make it fun to play. Umpires will make inconsistent calls but isn't that something that's true to real life? If I could predict an umpires call it would make the game overly predictable and easy to manipulate in my favour.

Lifespan 7.0 - I can accept the score here. Especially considering there was so much more we wanted to add to the career mode that didn't make it in. If we added that we'd expect higher.

Overall - the comments about it being a minor improvement are harsh. The game is coming along nicely in our view and each iteration is a marked improvement on the last. It's a shame when get a review that misses the better aspects of the game and focuses on trivial aspects of gameplay and presentation.

With all that said though don't expect me to review the reviewers everytime. I'm not an idiot - I know that there'll be good and bad reviews and I accept that. I just appreciate it when the reviewer takes a good look at the game and doesn't settle for a brief play.

no sound with replays? i honestly dont care about that.

graphics? seems ok with me, i dont really take notice of the player models while im playing.

smothering? sounds good as usually if a player does walk in front of a kick it gets smothered!

incosistant umpiring? might be the only problem i will have with this game but i will get over it.

they forgot to mention alot of the good things as in the amount of stats that you have included etc.

Just thought I'd mention that the views I expressed previously are my own and not those of IR Gurus. Although I do often take the role of spokesperson for the company, in the case of post #2011 they are my views and my views alone. I'd appreciate if anyone chooses to post the comments elsewhere that they include this.

The umpiring would've worked, except for the bug I mentioned earlier...
Anyway, because of this, playing the game you learn to move the ball around more so you don't get caught...Then the umpiring doesn't matter as much.

Honestly, complaining about no sound during replays?

One of the best sport games in the world (Pro Evolution Soccer) doesn't have this either.

Talk about nitpicking.

Have been playing the game over the last week or two and it's definitely improved over last year. This review doesn't even mention the nice touches in career mode like full stats, Brownlow voting, much better trading system, draft improvements, specialized training. The difficulty is much more balanced as well.

Those of you who liked it last year should also like this year's version in my opinion.

Rutten is probably Ranked Higher in some categories than Glass is IMO, that is why Rutten has a higher overall rating:D

Cant believe I just read that.

Well actually I can, its a purple pansy supporter.

Glass would be in the top three best players at West Coast at the moment.

I would be getting used to this type of review if i was you, the graphics from the screens are horrendous, can't comment on the gameplay etc and each game has not been a marked improvement, some would argue you went backwards from 2004 and the last game was par with that. So your basically starting from scratch with this title.
