Swans play really beautiful footy out of defence. It-ll be tough for Essendon to keep their scoring down. So far they are doing well but I sense a damn about to burst.

our defence is held together by a band aid.

wont take much to blow it.

If you’re going to put yourself in harms way by cutting across someone who’s about to mark a ball that’s been kicked to him on the lead, you have to take a heap of responsibility for what happens to you as a result of that choice.

If you’re coming at him from the side and he’s got eyes for the ball (as Wright did) he’s got to be able to protect himself from being cleaned up, by turning his body at the last second.

The only options for Wright to avoid that contact were
A: pull out of a marking contest for a ball that’s kicked to him, which he has every right to contest, or
B: continue going at the ball and leave yourself wide open to being cleaned up by not turning your body at the last moment, if the other guy gets to it a fraction earlier.

This will become a non-contact sport if all this continues.

Bumping is basically out.

Smothering is now high risk.

Now just going for a mark puts you at risk of being suspended for weeks, if this ends that way.
No one can ever answer why a player has never cleaned up a teammate in the same manner, if it's unavoidable.

Serious question, do you think the reverse should be OK? Because no one could answer this in the Maynard incident, so I challenge people to answer this one.

Imagine Cunningham running back with the flight, eyes on the ball the whole time, realises at the very last half second that he won't get there before Wright, so he turns his body, braces for contact, and knocks the incoming Wright into next week with the point of his shoulder.

Football incident, play on?

When was the last time Essendon had a top 6 defense? 1999-2004?

when was the last time essendon had a healthy backline is a better question.

Essendon can't drop their heads.
It'll be a mindset challenge to keep battling away and make the momentum shift back.

Max King got a week for something that wasn't as bad as what Wright did.

He should be getting about 3 weeks if the MRO is consistent but that would be asking too much.

He will probably just get let off with a fine.
King lucky to only get 1 Plugger. Late, head high contact, and it was deliberate. He’s fortunate Michael Christian is a merciful man.
