There’s actually a bigger company who released a sports game with no licenses that focused on gameplay first in addition to a wide variety of customisation options. They revolutionised Cricket gaming and outcompeted the licensed product at the time.
Oh man, that's sobering.

A couple things controls wise, has anyone been able to get the RB/R1 homing tackle to work?
That and the right stuck controls like putting your arms up in a tackle
R1 does work for me - use it alongside triangle to tackle (although it is significantly skewered to being no)

Right stick raise arms does not work - I just spam kick or handball when I get tackled

This is on ps5

Game is getting a little too much hate imo, still better than any other AFL game to date and half the game does look really good, definitely disappointing but you're acting like it's a complete write off

I over reacted with that last comment, it was more the majority of people’s opinions. I posted my thoughts the other night and will go into a little detail:

I actually do like how the game plays, the only thing that annoyed me was when you get the ball your kinda cemented in one spot for a half second, if you try clear the ball with a kick because of that initial pause you get done for holding the ball. I figured out if you do a heap of quick handballs you can usually get a clearance out of the centre.

I managed to string a couple of cool plays together though… tap out of the ruck to a rover, run to almost the 50 line and a stab pass into the chest of the forward. Also on the wider grounds it’s fun to counter out wide, but if you stuff up somewhere the AI usually kills you on the counter which I thought was pretty realistic.

Pardon my steam noobness here but the patches auto update as soon as the PC is turned on in most cases dont they?

I haven't seem a update file come through last night but it's set to be done automatically so I assume it is

Played a management game last night, no crash.

Still fairly easy though.

Looking forward to the AI buff!

Maybe set AFL 23 to high priority on auto updates.

Completely agreed. A mistake was made (by who or how, we’ll never know), the game wasn’t its finished version upon its release and in spite of numerous complaints and literally hundreds of pages of them, Big Ant have come out and detailed a plan to rectify everything they can and do so within the next 7 days. There’s not much more to be done and to those who continue to drag it through the mud I cant help but wonder why you just wouldn’t return the game, get your money back and move on. Some of us actually want to see the best AFL game we can enjoy on current game consoles/PC with updated hardware.

Piggy backing off this one, has anyone remembered to try underground/clearance handballs, or clearance kicks? Haven’t even remembered to test these out to check if they work

I'm still learning the controls. I've played so much Evo 2 that that game's controls are all muscle memory.

Like, I couldn't even tell you what most of the buttons do what in Evo 2 if you asked me, it's just muscle memory.

List management fairly disappointing. Prefer the menus in AFL Evo during trade periods.

Quite nice that you can cook the books and lock on your rookies at 9 year 95k salary deals though.

There’s a bug that doesn’t let you resign rookie listed players though after they’ve been on the rookie list for 3 years, haven’t found a work around for that.

Also if you just offer 5 players in a trade you can get any player you want lol

I think I'm desrtined to be the shittest AFL23 player 🤣.

Played my very first game, on medium and lost 6.2.38 to 10.8.68 🤣

Mind you, I was experimenting with the camera angles alot. The bugs didn't help. The random 30m handballs to no where. My biggest peeve was not being able to kick quick enough and being tackled by an opponent who teleports from 5 metres away.

please patch the player with the ball afer a mark.
He needs to move his body to align with the targets instead of being still
Just like a kick out i think
Ps5.

Excited to convert Kayne Turner, Shiels and Howe into Sicily

I offered one player, Jason Castagna to North and signed Harry Sheezel onto a 9 year contract

I think this is already the same as what you just posted, thanks heaps for sharing!

Does that mean these updates probably happen before I even notice ?

Cocomarsh, you’re supposed to give the disclaimer of “while I’m also unhappy with the state of this game at launch” before you say anything constructive.

(This is not legal advice, anything I’ve suggested is general in nature. Consult a legal professional.)

Yeah, I think the combination of the AI not pouncing on me when I should be in plenty of space to dispose of the footy/ me learning all the updated controls would help me have a lot more fun.
I’m content with the way things are trending since launch, finding it playable now, but I think until the kinks are ironed out I’ll still just test a few play now games on each patch.

Clearance kick and handball yes (good way to log it over a opponent). Kinda forgot about underground handball - honestly would be ****ing helpful as I’ve lost count to the number of times I’ve had balled to the opposition……..

Yes!! The way you could turn your player from evo 2 was great. Feels a bit disjointed awkward trying to aim a kick when you can’t actually face where you wanna go, particularly when the camera angle snaps back to broadcast or whatever it’s called in-game

Okay, super dumb question here, but I've had serious troubles with kick outs.

So I swivel the camera and identify an option. If I let go of the stick, and just hold/release X, the ball literally goes over my head for a rushed behind. If I push the stick forward, 9 times out of 10 the camera keeps swivelling to a random direction because there is obviously a slight angle in the direction I'm pushing the stick.

What am I doing wrong?

I was thinking about this last night.

What I would love to see is some talented, passionate indie dev team come along as a third option and make a game where they just purely focus on getting the gameplay experience A1.

Their first iteration might not have any licensing, real life likenesses etc (Brisbane Lions for example probably called the Brions or something with a generic lion logo), but they hammer that sucker's gameplay (and gameplay options, customizations etc) into such a state that everyone takes notice of it and can't deny it as a true Aussie Rules experience.

Then the expensive difficult real life license stuff comes later.

Without the licensing it's just not going to sell.

So get a refund? That's where your journey ends with the product.

You have the right to complain about something you've purchased and to then refund it based on those complaints. But anything beyond that comes across as being angry for the sake of it.

The "but I spent $100!" argument only holds so much water before it becomes a tad Karen-ish.
No, it's the "people can't point out faults with the game because everybody makes mistakes" that is the issue. They're happy to pocket the revenue but don't want to hear any criticism, it's laughable.
