Agree with others.
The speed of the game is good to me, simulates the sport well.
Biggest issue for me is button responsiveness. With the speed of the AI the handball button needs to be far more responsive and a more intuitive method of hitting the correct target.

My biggest frustration is quickly pressing the handball button to no effect, but constantly getting wrapped up by the AI.

To me if the handball function is overhauled and made super responsive and accurate it would fix so many issues in the game.

Even something like the Rugby League games where each player has a button above their head and you can press it to pass to them. Hold L1 to pass out ahead of them or else goes straight to them for example, would be great. Albeit fairly significant changes for a non early access game

This game has gone from it's dumb, but it's got heart, to outright unplayable over the last fortnight.

Teleporting tackles on kicks. Every second mark I take against the AI doesn't register and I'm instantly called to play on = instant holding the ball, Handball receives slow my player to a crawl. Handballs rarely hit targets. Hitouts rarely feel intuitive. Each player handles like an absolute pig, and the controller responsiveness is awful. I could go outside and load up a kick before my controlled player is ready to go.

Add into this that management mode is at best barebones and at worse apathetic and misdirected, and there's nothing for me here.

I've written what feels like a half-dozen tickets that have gotten this game nowhere.

I am a staunch Big Ant defender but guys! Wtaf happened?
Strongly disagree. I believe it’s in the best state it’s been in.

Yeah have tried using the joystick method, just too fiddly and by the time you do it the necessity is past.
The game right now with that method really requires the player to be super accurate, which causes the problem cause there are a lot of players on the ground and they are also at various distances from each other, so it is hard to be precise. like afl grounds are massive compared to soccer fields or NBA courts which have their players closer to each other while being not as 'busy'

What is crucial to the way I want to play is to try and play quick and fluid, handball chains, short kicks and playing on. I cannot do that at all in the game at the moment, hence I’d rather play Evo 2 that AFL 23 in its current state.

That’s just me.

Totally fair. Each to their own with their unique and individual style. There was someone earlier that said they had a similar style and had it pretty nailed.
Hopefully the next patch brings some updates in your favour.

Hearing a lot of people say we need to slow the game down, is this a consensus on here?
Can we just have the option for different game speeds like FIFA/2K etc. ?
I love fast paced gameplay and if the bugs/issues get ironed out then I’d be more than happy with the current pace of the game and those who want it slower can also enjoy it how they want

Just played ps5 patch. Don’t think injuries have been added in yet. Would love to see a pack of players standing on the goal line when someone is taking a shot. A lot of the time I kicked it short and it bounced in with no one there. Should nearly always be punched across the line.. I agree I think the game needs to be slowed down a fraction. At least the opposition ai does.
I can’t tackle for the life of me or get free kicks.. and once again would love to see more cut scenes to make it look more real during gameplay… I don’t think there is to much more now gameplay is lacking other then little things like that.. oh and gang tackles. Not just opposition tackling but then your team mate hopping onto either trying to keep ball in or knock it out.. cheers BigAntStudios during a great job

Any changes to the ruck contests since the new update? Not too keen on picking up the sticks again and losing 95% of the centre bounce hitouts I contest.

Also the commentary is a bit inaccuate. Examples.

Finished first, 3 losses all season, playing PA in the QF. Garry and the crew constantly going on about how I am an underdog the whole game.
Player running into goal, ball gets smothered, Huddo goes on like they've just kicked a goal.
Player marks the ball 5 metres out on an insanely acute angle. Commentator puts the mockers on saying it's a gimme goal.

The worst one is Harford. Got him, the crowd yelled ball and they got it - or thereabouts. Funny when I'm playing Gold Coast at home and I get pinged. I'm sure the 3 GC fans in the stadium screamed.

I wouldnt say slow down, if the buttons were responsive that would fix the issue, would love to be able to handball as soon as i get the ball, seems to be ok if ai aren't around, if they are though it seems to pre determine a tackle and not let you handball/kick away

Pretty sure underdog is purely based on the player ratings.

A bit of feedback/questions for the Devs about one (or two) areas in particular.

Had the game for just over 2 weeks now, and one "issue" im finding with realism (putting aside the stick in the mud, slow turning, impossible to lay tackles on AI which have all been covered here) is the AI positioning and logic when I gain the ball in the back line.

Whether it's from a kick in to half back flank, or I intercept and stop there, when I look up, there's always a massive void of 0 players leading into the wing area ahead.
It's very noticeable because a) the forwards up ahead seem to hit an invisible do not cross line with the otherwise of the centre square/f50, so they occasionally show a tiny bit of interest in leading to a kickable spot, but then bali out.
And b) further and much more unrealistically, there's a ton of guys (both teams) who sit directly across and even behind me in the centre corridor, always man on man.
This rules out switching (especially when playing end to end camera which I prefer).
Ideally the defending AI would ALL push back in front of me, and so too would all my team mates, except maybe 1 or 2, who position for a long switch kick and maybe a shirt backwards bailout kick.
I've tried all tactics settings, but nothing seems to get these guys to be ahead of the ball, especially on the wing.
In one of the previous games, this was also an issue, but due to being able to set each teams tactics (they weren't dynamic), you could tell them to all either full or partial press when defending, which led to them all pushing back, and freeing up a few team mates behind the ball.
Obviously tactics here are dynamic, but it would be great if the default was for every team to press/zone back.
Even at kickouts this would help, as currently it tends to just me man on man, with no even short safety kicks to the pockets being available.

I mentioned it before, but one gripe/suggestion (other than the rotation speed on a turn over) I have about end to end camera is you can't look inboard.
Even on the most zoomed out view with widest FOV, once you're on a back flank, you can't see anything the other side of your current position.
And given the 1v1s I mentioned above, switching it's suicidal.
What would be ideal would be for the ability to pivot/rotate the camera, perhaps either with a button press (after a mark/free/at kick in) so it follows you as you "look" left and right for a pass, or even R3 or a button held in and right stick controlling the rotation of the camera.

Having fun outside the known issues, but these two would go a long way to making a more realistic game. :)

I'd say just a little, it can be a it twitchy.

Maybe game speed settings? Slow, normal and fast?

I do agree with others that on attack it's nearly there but when defending its a challenge keeping up with the AI.

I know I’ve given up playing for the time being.

Ps4 has been playing (to me at least) the best it’s been, I think we’re one patch ahead of ps5 (which still doesn’t make any sense to me).

Tactics for me (again not speaking for everyone) has been a game changer. Whilst using them I haven’t had one game where the AI does the repeating play: hit out to a rover, handball to someone on the wing, kick into 50 and score.

As it’s playing so well I’m worried a new patch will ruin the gameplay again. Fingers crossed that’s not the case though cause I feel like the game is definitely getting there.

There is Still a long way to go but I feel like the bugs that are currently present are way more minor than what we had on launch. It’s not for everyone but once you work out how to exploit the bugs a little it’s really fun to play.

Slowing the game down seems like a hack job solution to the fundamental issue of a lack of responsiveness.

Kinda like WW hardcoding a loose man in the pocket for every single kick in after a behind.

Would prefer the stuck in mud feeling to be fixed properly, rather than everyone simply slowed down.

That's true

It wouldn't really solve the AI doing the extra speed bursts that get seen (which also can lead into the teleporting). They'd just speed burst in slow motion instead :p

Interestingly no patches on any platforms overnight. So that’s one console patch in nearly two weeks and one Steam patch in 5 days which seems a little lacking considering the state the game is still in.

Xbox news also expected either today or tomorrow so it will be interesting to see what comes from that 🤔

The speed is fine it's just that the AI can wind up max power handballs and kicks as soon as they get the ball imo. Feels like table tennis sometimes.

Switching players - Currently you have to hold L1 + Hold RS in a direction and THEN let go of L1, BEFORE finally releasing the RS direction.

If you don't do this exactly, it won't work. Feels unnatural to me.

Fifa does it well using just the RS to switch players with a simple flick. I'm thinking L1 + flick RS to switch player straight away would work better IMO.
