Along with the long and narrow interchange/reserves list (I don’t know how Bigant thought in their right mind that would be a good idea),The inconsistency across the selection screens is what’s bugging me. For some contexts- forget which ones- it doesn’t show attributes of the player or height.

Also team selection is really hard to use when you have say Swans v Dogs and Swan players are blue and dogs players are red. Really confusing when trying to compare matchup attributes. Should be the predominant colour of guernsey for that match. Like what I had a rough go at making early on in the year. IMG_4918.png

This. But also need to split bench and reserves. The most pointless combination. Don't know why BA thought that looked good.

It's their self built game engine that's the problem. You can't just throw 1000 band aids on a game when the core engine is bugged to the bone. Not sure what Big Ant are trying to prove.

They should've went with something like Unreal Engine 4 or 5, or hell even Unity.

AFL Evo 2 uses the unreal engine, go figure.

Reeks of being coded in 30 seconds, looks terrible and largely pointless.

Something that unfortunately could be applicable to a fair portion of this game. A lot of things just look rushed and then when broken down to pure gameplay, feels rushed also. But as long as they’re happy with their game, I guess we’re all the wrong ones aren’t we? 🤷🏻‍♂️

They're trying to prove that they can be Australia's answer to 2K or EA Sports. Something that they fail with again and again...

They want to do what they do and have an in-house engine, so they own everything surrounding the engine.

The reason they probably also used their engine is that it would have made porting stuff from their other games into AFL 23 a lot easier. If they didn't, They'd probably have absolutely nothing at this point for the game besides having almost nothing.

Even if they had thought that they should have used something like Unreal Engine which they wouldn't have, The fact that WW used it for AFL Evo 2 probably would have turned them off completely because of Ross' mindset of "WW bad, Don't use anything they did." and he's the one who's running things behind the scenes.

If you want an explanation on why something is broken or wrong in this game or why they did something the way they did. Hubris and Ego is the answer. A team can only be as good as the person calling the shots and the person calling the shots thinks he's the best out there and can do no wrong. Something that time and time again has been proven wrong.

I can’t believe it’s the 25th of July, round 20 of the season; and xbox users still don’t know when the game will be approved for release on their consoles.
At this point, I don't even see it coming to Xbox at all...

Such an absolute disaster this game is.

This is obvious really, but Big Ant's own ego won't ever acknowledge that fact

I can't believe people think we care hahaha, I stopped caring when they delayed it for the 5th time with no logical explanation.

Played enough and seen enough to know its total shit anyway, money saved in my book.

Pointless exercise to release on the Xbox now, all Xbox users have seen and heard enough to not go near the game.

As others have said an myself previously, it won’t be released at all on Xbox.

Well then call me stupid because I’m an Xbox user and will get the game pretty much the week it comes out. So im hoping the game eventually makes it to Xbox lol

I have a funny (hopefull) feeling they waiting for pro team to release the game along side that. Hoping 🤞🤣

Would love to see another non indiedev attempt making Aussie rules into a video game. It's not all about passion for the game, you still need to know how to build the game properly so it functions and works. Passion is good, but I don't think it's the be all and end all. Just being committed to replicating the sport accurately and being a skill dev would suffice.

Problem with the community coming together is everyone having their own ideas and how it all fits together. Probably need a few guys with some different gamedev skills and who can work together so living in the same city is important, get them to do a Kickstarter or something. I don't know. It's not an easy thing, as big ant and wicked witch have shown.

I've been working on mine part time for about 3-4 years with almost a full year off last year and hoping to get close to release soon. Something always brakes in the code, adding different game mechanics can ruin the flow of the game. So many many things need to work in sync and not undermine each other.

Hoping one day we get a good one. But with BA the holder of the licence that may be a while
Saw this message a while ago and had a thought. And mind you I have absolutely no idea if it could work (most likely not at all!)

But anyway, how would you go merging your game, which is looking like a pretty good way to play the game, with say one of the management games out there, probably Australian Football Coach as it's in active development, so players could have the best of both worlds.
A game that is robust in the off-field management side of things that they can then actually play the games rather than simulate them all the time.
You'd both be working on the parts you're strong with and combine it to become a fully playable, immersive career/management game.
Anyway, just an idea that is great in theory but probably impossible to create!

The reason things break after new patches is because the game is broken. Fundamentally broken. They'll never fix the issues, they've had 4 months, they can't do it.

Which also explains why about 95% of all people’s questions to them either on here or their board are completely ignored and overlooked, because even they know they don’t know how to address the issues. I still think half the stuff thats popped up like stats and the running goal meter were made after the May 4th release too 🤷🏻‍♂️

I havent played in about a month or so, can't see myself picking it up again either. Definitely learnt my lesson with this mob.

I do think their lack of responsiveness is because they dont have a clue how to fix the issue majority of the time, and their system clearly isnt set up to easily indentify these problems, hence we have broken games for months on end.

Well its either a poor system that makes their job harder or game developers incompetence and I'd lean towards the first one haha especially when Ex employees highlight how hard and frustrating the system was to actually use.

To be honest, I've been working this game solo for so long that combining them would be difficult. Also, I'm using game maker language and I'm not sure what language that game is coded in.

There is also the fact that this game is my baby and I don't want to share haha

I think we need an official petition to get Twistie in the BA offices and fix the monstrosity of the Team Selection screen and make it similar to the Evo 2 one. Not only is it ugly, it also doesnt function 🤦🏻‍♂️
There's a lot things they should have added from it like sliders and the ability to out run opponents. Too bad Evo 2 didn't have custom formations, would have made it more playable.

A developer said they spent more time having to build tools with the custom engine than on their actual gameplay.

Yep, would be interesting to hear why they didn't go with existing tools, if it was about saving or making more $ or whatnot, probably won't ever know. Regardless, seems obvious the engine is very undercooked lol, they just marketed the graphics and sold it to us. Maybe it could pay off in the long run but they need to keep the license.. otherwise they will start from scratch again. NBA 2K never loses its license unlike these AFL developers.
