Oh My God Omg GIF by The Office

Coming 2030 🧐

I have lost all faith in the company. Promises were made numerous times and broken.

I agree with a previous poster. Management mode is just 23 or so "play now" games with the ability to trade and draft. The mode lacks any true reason to continue playing it. The lack of suspensions and injuries etc. during a played game is just lazy. The inability to assist in player development with training or even set a players role or position is again lazy.

What makes me laugh is Ross announced that Single Player Career would be removed to focus more on Proteam. What Proteam? Based on the fact that Proteam is not even released yet, what focus was actually placed into Proteam and how would it have affected Single Player Career mode?

My expectation of the upcoming, and I say that lightly, patch will most likely be no more then creation suite additions e.g. new hair, tattoos etc. Most likely no fixes to the amount of glitches and bugs that have been reported by a good 90% of players.

I actually have a feeling the ProTeam announcement will just be them saying it’ll be coming next year in AFL 25 meaning they got rid of Player Career for almost zero reason.

Also much like yourself, kinda expecting these patches to do minimal gameplay wise as I just don’t trust these guys to deliver anymore

Just watched Twisties latest AFL23 video and he pretty much summarises it all really well
One thing I haven’t mentioned before that he showcases well is that players don’t stream forward. If you mark the ball in the middle of the ground, it’s one on one all over the ground and half of those one on ones are behind the play lmao
What were these coaches doing when they got invited to help write the AI 🤣🤣

That awful AI and non-working tactics is arguably worse than the stuck in the mud issue. It really is just 18 aimless 1v1 contests unless in the back or inside 50 in which case all players just lead to the same huddle. How this passed any level of testing is beyond me 😳

Yep spot on
Really makes for such boring gameplay

God, I just watched the video and my god... The AI and tactics are all screwed up along with the gameplay being unresponsive as hell...

There is no way you can fix all that up with patches along with fixing up the broken modes and adding even more modes.

They gotta go completely back to the drawing board and try again. This'll take years to fix and get up to even a basic level of fun...

It's obvious that they didn't playtest this or give it enough time... Too busy bagging out the former devs to have time I guess...

A problem with all AFL games, you can't control how your team presses like in eFootball with the all out defense/all out attack tactics which really should be a requirement for all footy games, not to mention custom formations.

Bit of a head scratcher.

A joint announcement makes it unlikely the feature is being patched in, but if it's coming in AFL 25 or 26:

  • the timing is wrong
  • this needs to be an apology, not an announcement. In which case BA will be standing there on their lonesome.

My guess - it's coming soon but they've figured out an exciting way to make more money I mean make the feature even betterer.

This is something that was one of the most annoying parts of the game.

The tactics depth is non-existent. There should be multiple options to setup backs, mids, forwards. Should be options for players to stream forward when you get the back on half back. Forwards should be making multiple leads. Options on how to setup after a bounce, ruck down back, up forward etc. option to have a loose man in defence etc. Honestly it's just lazy game making.

I honestly feel Bigant released the game as the pile that it was and just thought we can just patch the absolute crap out of it until its somewhat playable. they have then released it was harder then they assumed especially with Cricket, rugby and tennis games they were trying to get released as well.

As for the future of AFL gaming, I'd be keen if someone developed an AFL Management style game. You draft, trade, develop players etc. work up from being a state league coach to the AFL to winning a premiership. Similar to what Kevin Sheedys game was like.

Again just lazy game developing. That's all it is.

Takes like this are just ridiculous, if you aren’t a game dev how can you possibly say it’s lazy.

This in-depth tactics stuff was never going to be in the first game of a new series, it took WW 5 or 6 games before they got any half decent tactics and ai movement around the ground.

AFL 23 has more features than Live 1, the problem was that big ant were open about how barebones Live 1 would be prior to release.

Because it's damn obvious. What would you call it?

Then don't advertise as the most in depth AFL game......

The bigger problem is Bigant released a not even half finished game and now almost 12 months later there are still movement issues, lack of mode depth, no proteam etc. It's rubbish that you continue to defend a company that has obviously not cared about the complaints that have been made by people who have spent $100 on this tripe

Games are ridiculously difficult to make, especially an AFL game, I don’t think it’s laziness at all but more so that it’s an issue that’s proving difficult to fix.

It’s easy to sit here and say that “this should be in the game” and “that should be in the game” but like I said, it took WW 5 or 6 attempts before they implemented any of those things.

I think big ant have massive communication issues but I don’t know whether that’s a Nacon thing because back in the Live 1 days, Ross would share tonnes of work in progress shots and they were totally transparent about how basic the first game would be.
They need to get back to that.

BA has been around for 23 years, they have plenty of experience making sports games and already had experience making an AFL game. They had a 10+ year gap to really figure out what they wanted their next AFL game to be. They also had the luxury of watching another company release a handful of AFL games in that time so could have really studied them to find out what worked, what didn't work, what could be improved on and start laying the ground work and planning for their next AFL release. They also had "the biggest budget for sporting games ever in Australia". They are meant to be professionals and experts in their craft, as Ross would lead us to believe.

So what did we get? We got Ross acting like a tool and taking pothsots at WW for internet browny points, we got a 100 dollar price tag and a game so buggy and broken it BARELY functions, when it does "function" it doesn't play like a game of AFL at all, we got basic features missing, we get silence and name called and blocked for calling it out. This was a rushed and sloppy release, plain and simple.

"Making games is hard" is not an excuse for the product we received. BA need to be held accountable and to a higher standard.

Some advertised modes weren't even included in the game. If it's not in there they can't fix it. Just pathetic to state this and that and then not include them. False advertising!

it took WW 5 or 6 attempts before they implemented any of those things.
Again, don't put on the box things that just aren't true. "Deepest AFL experience in an AFL game yet!" Blatant lie! If it's something they couldn't implement then just don't mention it. Pretty simple! That's bull regarding not being able to implement things. They had ten years, largest budget apparently, staff who were AFL fans and knew what they wanted. It was just a lazy effort and a lazy release.

They need to get back to that.
I could say it's blatant arrogance on Bigant's and Ross' behalf. As mentioned previously, ross sat there and bagged the previous instalments yet released a steaming turd. Don't go out of your way to bash another title unless you can back it up.

They probably paid a whole bunch of money to Champion Data to rate the players too.
Could have used their data to make the game-play legit, CD have all the stats and data to show exactly and precisely how teams plays modern football.
I could have rated the players better than whatever CD dished up, and then to make it completely un-editable is blasphemy for a sports game.

And lazy game searching -

Be nice if we got a date, then I’d know wether to kick a season off with the lists the community has created. Patch comes out mid season what’s the point really

I'm gonna say November. Big Ant's recent track record with releasing on time has been shocking.
