First thoughts after the patch

The game plays much better
Hardest is still too easy
I'm getting bored of winning every game by 10 goals. Gameplay is definitely improved today but I can't keep coming back to win this easily

Definitely harder to score set shots and goals on the run now.

Enjoyed it!

Online games are still buggy and hard to play.

BigAntStudios the one thing I wasn't sure on is if the wind element takes effect in pre existing saved files, I launched my existing richmond career and didn't notice any wind on the ground. Started a new career and noticed it in the practice game.
I think it should affect all games, including saved - JNT BA please ask the team tomorrow for confirmation.

Glad to see we're focusing on the important stuff.
Overly easy scoring needed to be fixed… I’d say that was fairly important.

The hair styles and footy are aesthetics that artists would’ve worked on… so I doubt any/much Dev time was lost from other work.

BigAntStudios when it says 'Added hair styles' is that for cuustom players only, or have some AFL players been tweaked?

I've noticed on mine Bergman from port has like a brown/orangish hair not blonde? :)

I had a bit of an explore and enjoyed the new hairstyles. So lush. We still need a balding guy I reckon and a proper afro.

The more I create custom SACFL teams, the more I find interesting hairstyles.

BigAntStudios Is there a plan to make some of the stadium assets available to custom stadium builders? There are some fences and buildings that would be really helpful. I'm really struggling to add low height backgrounds without running up the tree budget. This is a real issue at country grounds where there isn't much int he way of grandstands. Also, is it possible to add some crowd around the fence without seats?

P.S. I know that these type of questions are likely to trigger some...

Great patch, about half a dozen noticeable improvements. Thank you BA for making it easier to do a quick pass after a mark.

I'm not getting the wind yet (I just had arrows pointing right, ball drifting left) but it is good to see it making an appearance. Changes to make it difficult handballing from a centre clearance while not imposing HTB / secondary ball ups welcome too. I think that's the sweet spot.

The On The Run metre is good but feeling like a bit of a work in progress, if I release before the middle line the ball goes through which isn't a huge stretch. Wait and see I guess.

I feel like people not enjoying the game should just take a break and come back in a few weeks. Why put yourself through the frustration? After 30 odd years of rudimentary AFL gaming (that is, when we're lucky to have a game to play at all), we finally have one that plays ok, looks a million dollars and has a clear path forward. Being an old AFL gaming tragic I can objectively say we have waited a very long time for this day. Be patient, the game that's in your head will be here at some point, whether it's later this year, in a season pack or the next major release. It is closer now than it has ever been.

If it was a disc manufacturing issue or shipment issue it’s been almost 8 weeks now you would have thought that an updated eta would be provided.

Easy to draw conclusions when the game is in its current state that Microsoft are knocking it back…
There wouldnt be a NDA for a delay in shipping, surely people dont actually believe that rubbish explanation.

I reckon everything is patched in completed order (what gets finished first). If something (like the aesthetics side of things, hair/footy’s etc) gets finished/fixed ahead of something else then that would be pushed out first. People have to remember that some people (artists) work on totally different things like aesthetics, which is totally separate to gameplay.

Some of things may just take that little extra time, so mistakes hopefully don’t get made or nothing in the game gets broken. Guessing some of the stuff isn’t 100% ready to be patched in yet and that’s ok.

It's good to hear that Goal Kicking is finally been fixed.

I haven't picked up the game in 2 weeks or so. The constant crashes were frustrating me to no end. I hope that's been fixed.

I think part of the issue along with the game is the fact that Big Ant haven't been as open as people would like about the game whether it's a list of reported concerns, everything fixed in patches, What's going on with Tactics/Pro Team/Xbox release/etc.

Add to that higher expectations on this game and the failure to meet it so far and you've got a recipe for a powder keg of anger and frustration.

Part of that could also be that Big Ant themselves don't know when said stuff will be ready themselves. It takes time to create and fix things and that is perhaps something various people don't want to give at this point. (Which is valid for the most part. People didn't get what they wanted and want to move on.)

It's just kinda the long road we're on right now.

Don't know why I've been so reflective on the thread recently. Maybe I've been watching too many episodes of What Happened? on YouTube. :p

Felt it was appropriate

Played the patch earlier this morning (was too late and tired to try last night).

I like it, but maybe I wasn't playing with heavy wind ? First set shot was a disaster, but nailed the next 3 in a row. Think I'll need to relearn the optimal meter position, some of the kicks I did.... made the distance easily, but they didn't look like they were kicked cleanly.

Game play seems a little more refined here and there, although I did freeze when gathering a loose ball (too early in the morning to do a video that captured it) which enabled the AI who was a considerable distance away.... to catch up and tackle me.

Just downloaded the new patch before heading to work so won’t get a crack at it until tonight.
I think and hope goal kicking being more difficult and more behinds coming into the game, along with wind will hopefully make the game more fun to play and keep people interested while we await other things like tactics, management mode and eventually pro team.
Realistic scores for me personally are a big deal so not kicking 24.2 every second game will help me enjoy the game significantly more! Hopefully it hasn’t gone too far the other way and I go and kick 2.24 tonight!

Watching Michaels stream last night and yeah goal kicking has become harder but we still have:

  • Erratic handballs;
  • Marks (speccy’s in particular) and frees being play-on;
  • Teleporting;
  • AI players deciding to play-on for you;
  • Stab kicks going off in a random direction;
  • Players getting tackled and dropping the ball (incorrect disposal) but it being play-on;
  • Accuracy of kicks at goal while being tackled is OP;
  • Online needs a huge amount of work before Pro Teams is released.

Like I said yesterday, I wish these things were prioritised over goal kicking when they are ongoing and make the game a chore and frustrating to play.

I think I’m about done with this game. Radio silence on features that should have already been implemented and we were told would patched in and no finished product in sight.

Yes but most of these things should have already been created well before the original launch or at least in the past month unless they honestly had no intention of releasing a fully fledged game.

OK, the launched build wasn’t what was intended but what’s the reason for all the bugs still existing, features missing and no word on those apparent features that “are imminent”?

You know what, I will agree on one thing here.
I know I’m not popular here but I do agree with a lot of you on the radio silence thing.
I do believe this is where a lot of the frustration is coming from within this thread. People would be more accepting of the time being taken to correct the game if there was more communication. Am I right?

Edit: I don’t even think people expect every single detail in every answer to every question. But some basic answers on ETA of features or even what’s holding them back I think would help some of the frustration.

Correct and I’ve said it before. Don’t say something is imminent, not release it, ignore repeated questions about it and than just say “I’ve got nothing else to say about it”.

Some things haven’t been addressed at all while picking and choosing which questions to respond to. A lack of transparency and communication certainly doesn’t help.

Same boat as you there - would be good for one level headed poster in this thread, eg. Michaels, to collate the top 10 questions/features we're asking about in here, get it to Ross and JNT, and they can reply with a "it's in the pipeline for release soon (don't give timelines because posters in here can't handle that if it goes south), it's on the "maybe later list", not gonna happen etc.". Post it in here - that will at least silence a lot of the "where is xxxxxx" folk. A lot of the anger is just simply not even knowing if these things are in scope/being looked at

I agree. Someone to make a list, take some suggestions from the crew here and submit it to Ross in a formal way rather than just in here and see if we can get some basic clarity around the big questions.
Honestly I’m happy to do it.
I think I’ve been fairly level headed most of the time. I’ve been mostly positive so that might help my chance of a response.
I’m happy to give it til tonight (say 6pm) for people to inbox me on here and I’ll go through it all and pass it on?
Obviously can’t say if we’ll get anything from it but happy to give it a shot and try and calm things down a bit in here.

Apart from a few moments with one poster but even then I think I was fairly level headed and said what most of us were thinking.
