Watching Michaels stream last night and yeah goal kicking has become harder but we still have:

  • Erratic handballs;
  • Marks (speccy’s in particular) and frees being play-on;
  • Teleporting;
  • AI players deciding to play-on for you;
  • Stab kicks going off in a random direction;
  • Players getting tackled and dropping the ball (incorrect disposal) but it being play-on;
  • Accuracy of kicks at goal while being tackled is OP;
  • Online needs a huge amount of work before Pro Teams is released.

Like I said yesterday, I wish these things were prioritised over goal kicking when they are ongoing and make the game a chore and frustrating to play.

I think I’m about done with this game. Radio silence on features that should have already been implemented and we were told would patched in and no finished product in sight.

Yes but most of these things should have already been created well before the original launch or at least in the past month unless they honestly had no intention of releasing a fully fledged game.

OK, the launched build wasn’t what was intended but what’s the reason for all the bugs still existing, features missing and no word on those apparent features that “are imminent”?

Yeah this part of the original message has been totally lost hasnt it. I think reason for why people are so frustrated over the trivial things when they claimed everything was already ready to go, it was just a matter of piecing it back together.

To be fair I would say most of those things only really happened in the online game, which we knew was already a bit behind the offline game.

Doesn't make it ok but just for context a lot of those aren't happening in offline game modes.

Context is important here and not letting people assume those issues are a blanket issues across the entire game.

As someone who only plays online, that’s context enough for me.

Obviously people who play other modes can come to their own conclusions.

Yeah but the way you worded your post made it sound like every game i played ran like that, the points you have referenced, while valid, are isolated to 1 game mode and not a reflection of the 2 hours I played for across all other modes.

That is important context.

As I said it doesn't make it right or ok, cause a lot of those should be gone from online too.

If you want my honest opinion. I think it shows in the final product when you compare it to all the promises that were given in the lead-up. I think what we got except without the glitches is what we would have got Day 1.

I would have released the game in 2024 or 2025 and made sure everything was ready to go Day 1 and if that wasn't feasible to do at that scale, I'd have downscaled the ambition to something more manageable for the first game. Because I have no clue how you were gonna be able to deliver certain things when you're only announcing them before launch.

This has just been a very strange development and release from start to finish and it keeps getting stranger and stranger the strategies as things go on.

No, I said “we still have” and listed the points.

Are the things I listed not present in the game still regardless of the mode?
We still have in online.

Thats the point.

If you're going to paint a picture paint the full one not just 3/4 of it.

I've said twice those issues are there online so not sure why you're questioning me on that.

You say you just play online which Is fine, but the context Is for those who just play offline that read this thread for updates and info.

Let's just let it be accurate for them too is all I'm saying.

So single player has none of the issues listed?

Because I literally saw some of them same issues in offline just maybe not as prevalent. Are you trying to tell me none of those exist in offline play?

Agreed. But pointless trying with some people.
Game could have released in a perfectly fine state on all platforms back in April and this bloke would still find a way to throw s**t at it.

I love the amount of time and effort the same handful of people spend here whinging and spitting the chewy, especially those who apparently hate the game so much and think it sucks yet here they are….in this thread every hour….talking about AFL 23….

Speccies are never called play on in offline now since 2 or 3 patches ago

Personally haven't seen an Erratic 100m weird handball offline for multiple patches- but I do think the accuracy and aim of hitting the desired target still needs tweaking.

Tackling AI for a free kick to be paid but then it's play on has predominantly happened online. Have seen it a couple of times offline as well over the last week but 100 x worse online (which I've flagged many times as something we need gone)

And to be fair I'll acknowledge that some peoples experiences have varied to others so I should have clarified in my posts that my views are based on my experience only.

I do feel for BA with this game and the users of it, by the time the Xbox versions release ( if they do?) and Pro team releases the season will be 3 quarters done with anywhere from 6-8 teams seasons effectively over. Considering the game was original due out in April when the season was only 3-4 weeks old its a pretty huge hit to take.

So like I mentioned; everything I listed exists in online play while several of the issues also occur offline.

So we’ve come to the conclusion of your “put into context” that every issue I listed does still happen in some form within the game.

OK then….

It’s not ideal but these situations either make or break a studio. Hopefully BA use this experience to make a positive outcome and take away some learnings from it, I imagine next time around the game is going to be relentlessly tested moments before launch hahah

lol yeah I know your types.

good day sir.

Love the new on-the-run goal kicking meter. Allows you to kick awesome goals while not exactly facing the posts… plus you need to get an understanding of the wind…
Here, I knew the wind was going to be a factor… and managed to kick it from the boundary.

Thoughts on the meter:-
  • it takes a while to load up (this was on Normal difficulty, which may be a factor)
  • definitely makes in-play shots harder
  • need to check the wind to get the correct position
  • players do kick on their opposite foot now!

What’s not shown, and I’m wondering if it is a factor in the resulting kick, is:-
  • what would be the goal ‘zone’ on the meter? i.e left and right post, not just a single line. (Maybe this should be shown?)
  • player skill, and what effect it has on the goal ‘zone’?
  • game difficulty (does it make the goal ‘zone’ less/more spread)?
  • preferred/opposite foot (does this make you more/less accurate)?
  • could the meter charge up at different speeds (would love some magical quick snaps, ala Nick Davis)

You know what, I will agree on one thing here.
I know I’m not popular here but I do agree with a lot of you on the radio silence thing.
I do believe this is where a lot of the frustration is coming from within this thread. People would be more accepting of the time being taken to correct the game if there was more communication. Am I right?
Very much so. It can feel like you're trying to squeeze blood from a stone with Big Ant and that's just here.

They've been virtually non-existent elsewhere. Hell, There are still people who think Player Career will still be a thing in this game...

How are we meant to know what's going on when it seems like all of the replies Ross gives out are either replies to people he disagrees with or releasing the patch notes with not much context unless they're about to add something else big in with JNT only seemingly popping in every once and a while.

Just saying something like "Hey, We're working on fixing Tactics right now but it's taking longer than we thought because of this and that. Our predicted implementation time is this. We're sorry about the wait." or "We're saving Pro Team for this" would seriously go a long way.

Again, I can see their passion for the sport and I can see their vision but they're currently failing in several key areas. Communication being one of them.

I think Big Ant are insulated by the fact they have a monopoly.

The same disastrous launch happened with AO Tennis and Cricket 22 and it didn't change anything because they knew people will still buy their products. Hence AFL 23's disastrous launch.

Big Ant won't change their practices until people stop buying their games, and people won't stop buying their games because they're the only option in town if you want a cricket or footy game.

You can only blame yourself if you believe single player mode is still coming, it's well known, and doesn't take that long to find out

The communication has been fine, it's not 'radio silence', find me another game dev that is on a forum consistently posting for months

There are plenty of games with huge communities that get zero communication from the developers.

The fact that we have 2 employees of the team in here even answering a few things is a blessing.

I’d prefer them to spend more time doing their work, than having to answer every little question/request publicly.

No room for this kind of logic here, I demand a thread ban be imposed immediately! :p
