Clear timelines are just recipes for disaster. The moment BigAnt give a specific timeline and go even a millisecond over, the vultures in this thread are out for blood

No, if they give timelines and then update accordingly that wouldn't happen. If they let the timeline slide and don't provide updates then sure, that would happen. And this is the bed they made for themselves by releasing a completely broken game.

For example, originally tactics were stated to be a couple of days away about 2 weeks ago. After that 2 days, if they'd said "Hey guys, sorry but tactics taking longer than expected to get the balancing right. We don't want to rush out a half baked tactics option so we will continue to work on this, in the meantime we'll focus on addressing bugs such as X Y Z".

Because they've said NOTHING except tactics is coming, the vultures in this thread are already out. It really doesn't take a lot to explain where things are at, and would almost certainly appease a large number of the critics.

The problem is, it’s a double edge sword. Dammed if they say anything and damned if they don’t. People demand satisfaction and Ross probs feels obligated to say something to keep those vultures happy, meanwhile theu take everything ross says as an exact time-frame without realising things can change or take longer than anticipated.
I think sometimes people need to show more respect and patience.. but 🤷🏻

Fair call actually. I’ll cop that.

Give an indicative timeline then, that is still magnitudes better than silence. People will be unhappy regardless, we don't live in a utopian society.

BA themselves acknowledged the need for a roadmap after the launch, which never eventuated (unless you count a 'to-do' list as a roadmap, which I've never seen in a professional setting).

I believe that is the case.
The wind does show on the ground for both set shots and in-play goal kicking... but I think Ross was saying that what is currently shown may be changing soon.
Is wind finally working but it’s not showing on the ground? I’m trying to figure out why I’m missing every set shot
This works for me.. Do you definitely have wind in the match you're playing?

It’s been a disaster, a shameful release. Hasn’t even been cleared to release on Xbox due to the state of it.
Whilst I agree you're free to have your say, just concentrating on the above.

Do people really think Xbox are STILL holding the game back because of the state of it? On release (2nd release date) we saw a working version of the game with the streamers just days before. So even if Xbox had knocked back the day 1 patch, which I'm sure they never even looked at, Big Ant would have been aware of the issue and would have pulled the streamers or rolled back the patch then and just gone with the frankenstein build that was at least working. Sure, it was a frankenstein build, but there's no way they intentionally release a patch knowingly that would kill the game - there's too many stakeholders to enrage and damage relationships with by doing that.

Even now, people act like Riccardo from Xbox EU is sitting there saying "NOPE" because handballs are travelling 100 metres, teleporting and management mode missing features. They'd have no idea what the game should actually be like, and would only look at stability. The game is no longer regularly crashing and in the most part, hasn't "regularly" (for most anyway) for about 2 weeks; I get more crashes playing FIFA. MS greenlit Redfall around the same time, Cyberpunk previously and those games were complete trash and were as stable as most of us posters in this thread (I still can't play 20 minutes consecutively of Redfall). Whilst the launch was a disaster, I feel people are just using the narrative of "XBOX SAID NO BECAUSE BIGANT SUCK" because of their negative experiences in this thread.

So where is it then? There is no global distribution issues like Ross said either. Funny that this game is the only one affected by this apparent issue. Why the complete silence on it? As I said earlier, I am pretty sure BigAnt haven't even acknowledged the lack of Xbox release. The only info comes from an email from JB/EB.

Yeah the lack of info about the delay is very concerning marketing wise - Facebook page not updated since 2021, nothing on twitter besides the trailer then the "we know it's broken post" - that's not something I'll back up as that's just shocking. I find myself on Facebook offering lots of people advice for the game or pointing them to the BigAnt page for support - that's not my job.

For where the game is though, I truly have no idea where those copies are. But I don't see Microsoft making a stand against little AFL23 for 3 months when it's only going to sell 1mil copies at most - and if there was truly a vendetta against the game, surely there would have been some clashes with PC release as well. There has to have been a balls up somewhere in printing or ordering or manufacturing the discs, and now they're just in no rush to push it out after the catastrophe of day 1, until they can get their sh*t into gear.

This all started with MS back in early-mid March when they didn't send out out the initial batch - that would have meant Big Ant sat on a broken game for a month and a half, working only on a Frankenstein build that did work for streamers in late April, and then only got to work on fixing issues in Early May. It's too long a timeline.

For all we know, the 3rd party provider who prints the disc printed Dead Island onto the discs, shipped them, sent them to Aus, problem was discovered, they were shipped back, reprinted, and then sent back. That could take weeks / months . We just don't know - but I find it hard to believe Microsoft are sitting there smacking the big NO every time BigAnt contacts them. I think by now, it's BigAnt holding it back until they launch Pro Team and can guarantee they're not going to be needing to patch PS,Xbox and Steam every night with their dailies.

Scores level with 15 seconds on clock and this happens:

Siren went after McStay mark. Not one person on the goal line lol.

The initial roadmap was meant to be delivered almost 3 weeks ago. Still haven't seen Training, Tutorials, tactics, custom difficulty/adjustments, state league selections and state league fixtures.

After 3 weeks of radio silence on most of these, I don't think its unreasonable for people to be harsh on these areas especially.

Seeing stuff like this makes me wonder just how much of a tangible effect tactics will have; the AI still seems fundamentally lacking. This was something a lot of us were remarking based on the 'frankenstein' build, it has always been an issue.

I just played my 2nd game this patch and honestly I'd say the AI is largely pretty good now, bugs aside. Situational examples like this are probably where it falls apart a bit, but maybe with tactics introduced there will be logic which says put everyone on one side of the ground and kick it there which requires tactics to implement? We can only hope anyway.

Do genuinely find the core gameplay mostly fun now, apart from ruck contests and 1-1 marking contests being too predictable. Would like to see more random spills when there's a 1-1 marking contest, not a mark to either player 90% of the time, and NEED the ruck to be better balanced as it basically means the higher rated ruck wins every hitout to advantage currently.

But certainly needs depth via tactics, meaningful management mode and realistic admin. What I am loving is that you really can tell the difference between player ratings and heights. Aliir was so dominant when I played as him at CHB, where other players struggle. And noticed that with Dusty in the centre he would never tackle when I tried to, but swapped him with Bolton and he was sticking the tackles consistently. Means trades and drafting actually matter, for once. As long as gameplay is balanced.

the marking contest between Ginnivan and Close highlights one of the issues with still contests. (presumably) they're jostling as the ball is coming, but then when the ball is there to be marked, its as if they both lose their collision and teleport inside each other, and perform the same marking animation. not sure how this affects gameplay, but theoretically it could make positioning less important to marking if both players can occupy the landing zone for the ball, and then perform the same animation as if the other player doesn't exist

So is it worth buying or waiting for more patches?

For all we know
No one knows anything. It's just pages and pages of speculation.

Ross has addressed it. He responded to questions I asked him specifically about Xbox (pages/threads ago).

He said (no I'm not going back to find exact quotes)

  • Discussions with Microsoft are ongoing
  • the relationship with Microsoft is no different to the relationship with Sony/steam
  • when they are allowed to provide an update, they will.

It's going to be a mess of legal bullshit. NDA's, contracts with retailers, etc. Big ant aren't going to do ANYTHING that will potentially hurt the relationship, especially with cricket coming out.

Ross already explained that there were going to be financial consequences for releasing PS on the 4th of May.

Again, no one here is going to have any idea about any of it until big ant tell us themselves, which is probably the day before they are on shelves.

I might have missed something in this regard but that certainly wasn't the implication initially.
