No one knows anything. It's just pages and pages of speculation.

Ross has addressed it. He responded to questions I asked him specifically about Xbox (pages/threads ago).

He said (no I'm not going back to find exact quotes)

  • Discussions with Microsoft are ongoing
  • the relationship with Microsoft is no different to the relationship with Sony/steam
  • when they are allowed to provide an update, they will.

It's going to be a mess of legal bullshit. NDA's, contracts with retailers, etc. Big ant aren't going to do ANYTHING that will potentially hurt the relationship, especially with cricket coming out.

Ross already explained that there were going to be financial consequences for releasing PS on the 4th of May.

Again, no one here is going to have any idea about any of it until big ant tell us themselves, which is probably the day before they are on shelves.
Fingers crossed we get that podcast with Ross and Michaels once this has all blown over - that should give us some answers hopefully.

There’s bit cutoff that mentions microsft requires patches submitted for certification which requires 5 days in test

From memory the suggestion was actually that the relationship between BA and Xbox is no different to the relationship between a lot of developers and Xbox right now. The implication being that the above isn't true.

Wtf happened to the game with the latest patch?

  • Set shot is completely cooked. No matter how well timed it is, you potentially spray the ball.
  • Marking contests is horrid as well. If it's 50/50 you're getting outmarked or spoiled.
  • Centre bounce clearances are horrible now too, like how it was a week ago.
  • The game is borderline unplayable again now after this patch. Honestly gameplay wasn't too bad before this patch.
I am unsure why BA felt the need to fix things like marking, set shots and kicking for goal which was fine when they needed to focus on adding in other things like missing features. Jesus christ, it's like 2 weeks of good work has gone backwards in the space of one patch.

Ok, old man seeking help again.

The trophy for getting a higher position in your subsequent year in management mode... is there a secret to this?
Reason I ask is that just simulated 2 seasons and finished higher in the 2nd one, but alas... no cigar :(

If the game was perfect they wouldnt be here to praise Ross - I guarantee it!
Why not ?
Most of us have been here since the AFL Live days
I remember having good chats with Ross about that game. It wasn’t perfect, but it gave me hope that future iterations would be even better. The marketing and the communication was second to none and I loved it
Unfortunately it seems they went backwards with both of those areas. Not saying there’s zero communication now, but the game is out and it’s very selective
If the game was good, I’d happily praise it. At the end of the day, all we want is a good AFL game and some of us express that in different ways

Not that I know the answer...but at a guess...is it because you simulated rather than actually doing it? usually you dont get trophies if you sim.

Clear timelines are just recipes for disaster. The moment BigAnt give a specific timeline and go even a millisecond over, the vultures in this thread are out for blood
The counter to this is that they’re never just a ‘millisecond’ late.
Nearly everything that has had a timeline involved has been way off the mark and then there’s been no further updates regarding these supposed timelines

After last nights patch -

Kicking on the run has improved heaps imo. Much prefer this system. Really hope they don’t swap it for the goal posts lol

Set shots seem to be worse again. Where tf is the sweet spot ? Seems to always change

Wind in Marvel stadium still ? Cmon

Players STILL getting stuck in front of the man on the mark… WTF man. Nearly a month in, one of the biggest gameplay killers and they haven’t even bothered to give it a look 🙄

Handballs seem better, although still a ways off. Should be able to chain together really quick handballs in close

Tackling still needs work. This is along the same lines as player movement tbf. Feel like sometimes you can’t tackle because your player refuses to run towards the opposition

Overall, game is slowly getting better but these persistent issues are killing the replay value for me.

Am I missing something with trophies?

What’s the point? Sim two seasons… finish higher on the ladder… Woohoo I won an electronic trophy for pressing a few buttons!

Gaming summed up in a nutshell.

Nope. I kicked 6.3 and 10.1 in my 2 games. I went from winning 95% of contested marks to more like 60% now. Centre bounce is as broken as it was a week ago, nothing has changed there.

Maybe they need to tweak things at a difficulty level but things aren't as broken as you say. Admittedly the sweet spot on set shots is a little hard to work out and I've probably benefitted from just passing to get closer shots so could use some work there

Centre bounce is being worked on as a priority.

Anyone that can't kick a goal needs to account for footedness, attributes, wind, distance from goal.

I’ve just completed two games since getting home from work. In management mode.

My personal opinion is that nights patch is a cracker. The addition of the new goal kicking metres and mechanics and actually kicking behinds is awesome. Feels more real for me.
I’m finding the game play a lot less buggy but definitely still some that are remaining that need to be ironed out.

1: Treehill23 favourite the man getting stuck on the mark is a big one. It just means there’s an opposition player free somewhere and you have no control over being able to pick up said player.

2: Still some teleportation of players. A lot less but it’s still something that shouldn’t be there.

3: I don’t actually mind missing the odd handball, adds to the realism as it’s not always perfect in real life either but still struggling to really link a nice chain together as well. A nice balance between the two would be ideal.

4. Rewards for tackles. There seems to be little to no reward for tacking AI most of the time. I’ve had a couple of frees for incorrect disposal or holding the ball but few and far between.

5: This one is a a major one for me. Interchanges and subs. Whilst definitely improved the auto interchange putting players in some odd positions (possibly hindered by the fact we can’t alter preferred positions, would love to play Rhyan Mansell as a forward but he goes on as a defender).
And the obvious one being the sun not working properly or only being available at the first interchange you do.
Needs to be near the top of the list IMO.

6. Tactics will impact the ability to play and enjoy this game long term in a big way. The option to play a more defensive game against a strong or higher scoring opponent or play more attacking against a weak opponent and aim for a percentage boost is huge.
That and being able to emulate Richmond’s chaos game would have me planted in front of the tv for ages.
Tagging would also be a welcome addition.

7. Management mode is quite bare and I’m sure there’s some improvements on the way (or at least I hope so).
These include:
  • Inboxes/emails from assistant coaches/ reserves coaches/ board/ player managers/ doctors and physios regarding their individual roles.
  • A dedicated screen for injuries and suspensions for both the players chosen team and all the opposing teams.
  • Opposition lineups in team selection so you can select individual match ups.
  • A more streamlined way to select your side rather than the long list format we currently have.
  • Training and player improvements and declines for older and/or out of form players. And the ability to get feedback from reserves coaches about who played well and is pushing for senior selection.

At this stage that’s all I have. I can’t stress enough that I really am having a load of fun with the game but I also know it has so much more potential to be great and would love to see it reach those heights!

I think the handballing is mostly great personally. I think what's missing is distance, a fully wound up handball only goes about 10 metres when it should be able to go a good 25, especially to open space.

And I also think a "through ball" modifier for hand passing should exist. Currently it's kind of hit and miss where sometimes the team-mate out in front will turn and come toward you to receive the pass. Being able to use the through ball modifier or just being more responsive to the distance bar would make a huge difference here

The most jarring thing is when you're out, have a player streaking forward then they come to you to receive the ball and completely ruin your forward momentum.
