WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

Moving on from today's dramas.

But did anyone notice in Pink Panters gameplay last night there wasn't a single in the back or high free kick?
Was this something you noticed Chris?@Michaels

Yes, but where is this same passion for the AFL game which is out in a day? They’re definitely not going all out.

Just you wait until the big marketing push tomorrow. Can’t wait for those play tests as well

I think it's important to read the pinned post by Dannnnnnnnnn before jumping to any conclusions or if you have any questions, especially new members. It gives better context and makes two important points. There are aspects out of BA/Ross's control because of contractual agreements. So Big Ant might have done all the right things to get the game out on time, but are bound by agreements. They might want to come here to post everything they can about the game but might not be allowed to. In regards the Xbox delay, again, it might very well have been out of their control, just really unlucky. I'd be certain it was the last thing they wanted.

In terms of knocking the game before playing it, for those who can play it, give it a go first, before having any opinion, give it some time like you would any sports game.

Also, as was mentioned, there is no other company/license that can make an AFL game right now like BA can. So remember, if you cancel your orders etc, well, what's the alternative?? No one else in this country has the environment and resources that BA have to do it, as well as passion for the game.

Be mad if you want, but i think the lost art of patience and zen thinking, might just be in order here. Wait and see, don't panic, things might be on the up sooner than later either way.
I agree with half of your post especially about bashing the game that we havent played.
But you have to admit big ant could've handled the marketing side of things and the xbox delay much better.
All I've heard from them is excuses which most probably could be fair but they can't be 100% innocent.

Well i mean, we don't really know unless you're there i guess, is what i'm saying. I mean...well....in reality you'd have to give BA the benefit of the doubt, but if it's a shipment problem that just messed them around, then what can you do? If you're expecting the game and it doesn't come as expected, i'm not sure what else you can do. But i think when it comes to social media/forums etc, sometimes people jump to conclusions...like here..

This is passion:
To be fair they are probably in damage control at this point in time. They probably knew they were going to have to delay it again and get slammed so on a hiding to nothing and had complete radio silence with none of the play test sessions etc organised. Gee there was so much buzz around the game on that launch night with players in attendance , it came across like a huge deal.

I really do hope for the sake of those that get to play it Thursday don’t have a half baked game without features.

Eh, if Big Ant can make an AFL game that is half as repayable as their cricket games, I'd be more than happy to wait until the end of the year, personally. Not sure how well it will run on my computer, but I'll still buy it once I have some spare time to game to support them.

Tears of the Kingdom also releases in a couple of weeks anyway, so I'm set for the next few months as far as video games go.

Actually curious as to why so many questions are left in the dark 2 days out from release. Surely Big Ant aren’t restricted with what they can/can’t show 2 days before release ?
I don’t think I’ve ever seen this in the gaming industry where most of the details about the game are kept under wraps 2 days before release

Oh btw, did I mention we’re only 2 days out from release ?
They want people to buy an unfinished game its as simple as that, reveal how little is actually available and people cancel their orders.

This to me lacks a bit of passion

It's more the gameplay being too underdone. They should have got the fundamentals right, before they did all the extra stuff. They could have easily have gone that route.

Noticed this too and also haven’t seen it in the footage twistie and cados posted
Yeah, definitely a concern.
I heard the commentators ask is that in the back when there was a tackle, but didn't see a single in the back or high paid.

Outside of when a player is tackled as they are kicking (incorrect disposal), I also didn't see a single holding the ball paid.
