Re: AFL 2nd Elimination Final Brisbane Lions V Carlton Official Thread

I'm sitting here trying to remember other matches where we were missing our star players and we still pushed the dominant team deep into the fourth quarter. Playing against Geelong last year at Skilled Stadium without Browny and Blacky comes to mind. Also playing St Kilda this year without Merrett and Drummond I think was another example.

That game was a cracker. There's no point in lamenting the losses. We've got to do this with the best we have available to us!

Re: AFL 2nd Elimination Final Brisbane Lions V Carlton Official Thread

Don't ever bother ringing to book tickets. Go to the local suburban outlets, at least that way you get to take the tickets with you! I heard that if you purchase the tickets over the phone you still have to queue up on game day at Gate 2 to collect them. What a nightmare! The wait at Kedron was only about 30 mins, would be less than that now. Each ticket purchased has to be a separate transaction, so it does take a while but you're only charged one service fee. At Chermside they announced that you could only pay by cash or credit, not EFTPOS! That caused a few problems.

I went to Milton and it was shut. 9 am to 1 pm. I don't have time to go anywhere else, i already have to work back tonight.... So can we get them tomorrow still? Will our seats be taken?

Tickets finally obtained.

Thank god.

There shall be backlash about the way the ticketing was handled though, no doubt.

Simply not good enough. Being a member is meant to make access to finals tickets a breeze. Not an epic struggle against technology, great depression soup kitchenesque queues and business incompetence.

Re: AFL 2nd Elimination Final Brisbane Lions V Carlton Official Thread

2 hours and 20 minutes all up for me at Carindale :D

Lucky I took a good book with me. Some people had been lined up for over 3 hours ahead of me by the time they got their tickets.

Re: AFL 2nd Elimination Final Brisbane Lions V Carlton Official Thread

G Hocking, Bairstow and Couch were all late withdrawals this afternoon and Geelong pumped us. Lord was considered BOG by many in just his 2nd senior game.

Just goes to prove that anything can happen in finals footy.

That match still haunts me. The rest of my family barracks for Geelong. Carlton was the best team for three and a half years only to get one premiership. Looks like Geelong might suffer the same fate.

Posters,

Just thought I'd drop by and say i'm looking for a classic game this Saturday

Should be a great one

Re: AFL 2nd Elimination Final Brisbane Lions V Carlton Official Thread

Yup, just when I thought the Lions Reserves got eliminated by Mt Gravatt on the weekend, it turns out they've done enough to secure a home final berth against Carlton. ;)

Re: AFL 2nd Elimination Final Brisbane Lions V Carlton Official Thread

We have other injuries too. We are talking about good/important players.
Waite - good player = Drummond
Jamison - very good player who owns Bradshaw. > Merrett
Get the "name a game" DVD for round 2 '09 and round 21 '08 for confirmation.
Hadley - very important to our structure as an inside player. Frees up Judd and Murph to be first receivers.
Warnock - fair enough......but I did see Leuenberger get a mention.........much of a muchness IMO.

Black is obviously a massive out for you guys, and I was never suggesting it was equal.
If I didn't know better I'd think your post was trying to bait me into typing something that would see me carded.

At least some of the latest posts on here are a little more positive.

It could be worse......you could be Essendon right now. :D

Lions will lift and we will have a hell of a fight.:thumbsu:

Re: AFL 2nd Elimination Final Brisbane Lions V Carlton Official Thread

I think we are seeing some great mind games from Vossy! All week he will say Merrett, Bradshaw,Black and Drummond won't play. He will name them on Thursday and tell everyone that there will be last minute fitness tests.

He will keep the young blues players guessing, it is their first final campaign for an eternity. At the club they will say all week that Brisbane will play with their full complement, but they will also plan for the potential changes

When the young blues players are home alone human nature will dictate that their thoughts will wonder to how much easier their task will be with Brisbane potentially missing so many key players. These doubts will now doubt fester from their piss poor effort against the crows.

On Saturday night when our under injury cloud quartet run out, it will deflate some Carlton players because the easier road they have secretly longed for all week won't have eventuated.

Hopefully this is all part of Vossy's grand plan:D

Re: AFL 2nd Elimination Final Brisbane Lions V Carlton Official Thread

Hmmm Breakfast.

Roe will look like a dogs breakfast if he plays on fev...

PS. I think Black, Bradshaw and Merret will play.

Oh please, please, please tell us you know something more to make that statement.... you don't have to reveal what you know, but tell us you know something to say that? Do you?

Vossy? :p

Jamison isn't worthy of wiping Merrett's bum. Jamison does have a good record against Bradshaw, fair enough... but I hardly think that's relevant when Bradshaw is ruled out.

Waite is a good player, but he's no Drummond. Drummond was being talked about as a lock for AA until his first unjury (conveniently during the LAST Carlton game), but missed too many weeks and people forgot about him.

Miss Hadley has managed just how many games this year? 5?

Any Carlton supporter even entertaining the thought that their injuries are literally even half as bad as our, is talking some A-grade bullsh**.

It matters not, anyway. Just remember guys, we were missing Drummond Merret AND Patful last time. So we're...sort of better off on that front. Stay positive!

I have always had the opinion that all members (all clubs) should have first options before ANYONE... example..ring in to special hotline (put up by each club, not AFL for all) by the late tuesday, simply state yes/no, then member number, tickets then allocated......

General public to line up like you guys have today, these tickets on sale from the wednesday..

Seems ludicrous a member having to stand for hours in a queue...

I can remember as a kid, standing in queues with dad, to get tickets for a Cats GF, weren't members either...so nothing has changed, and being a member gives no priviliges apparently.........and it should..

Very biased summation there. What exactly are you suggesting?

Re: AFL 2nd Elimination Final Brisbane Lions V Carlton Official Thread

Aah, no. Waite does not = Drummond.

Waite = Roe.

Pfftt........

If I wasn't so attatched to my current sig I would have just found a new winner.

Roe = spud. (Geez I hope that doesn't come back to bite me)
Interesting Jammo isn't rated......oh but he goes alright against Bradshaw........and Kosi......and Medhurst......Hall...........but yeah other than that he's a dud.

If Riewoldt is the best CHF is the land you may want top check how Waite has gone against him. ;)

Drummond is a great player, as is Black.

Very biased summation there.
As opposed to some of the responses it has drawn which are well balanced, well reasoned points of view?
What exactly are you suggesting?
Simply that while your outs are more significant than ours......its not by a huge margin and that the tone of this thread was that all was lost, when in fact we barely have a defence at present with our FB, CHB and resevre FB/CHB in Austin all out.

I won't continue as anything I say from this point will be considered trolling.

Good luck, and FWIW, I hope Black, Drummond and Bradshaw get up for the game. :thumbsu:

It hasn't mattered the last few times. :)

I think you are way off. IMO losing your fullback, fullforward, best midfielder, your kick in specialist, 3 vice captains and being left with only one ruckman is a cause for concern.

Re: AFL 2nd Elimination Final Brisbane Lions V Carlton Official Thread

Both sides are clamouring for underdog status.

Gabba final gave the Blues the early underdog advantage, but Brisbane have fought back hard with some injury annoucements and claimed the ascendency.

Your move Carlton!

Fev to be dropped for parking his car at an 89 degree angle in the Princes Park carpark? Juddy to be dropped for his sideburns being too long?

You'd think that, and hey, I do too, but I've been reassured by a number of Carlton supporters on here that "We either break even or are worse off with Jamison Hadley and Waite all out!".

Gimme a break.

Assuming Hooper and Selwood don't return (praying they do), we're missing 8-9 of our best 22. And with names such as Black, Drummond and Bradshaw among them, they're hardly plodders.

I liked it better when we were trying to prove how awesome we were. Can we go back to that?
