MRP / Trib. AFL 2nd Semi Final findings - Paul Chapman accepts one-week ban for bump on Robbie Gray

We complain all year about how the MRP screws us over, and rightly so, we've got the rough end of the stick on pretty much all occasions.

Why would this be different?

I'm expecting 2 weeks down to 1.

If it's any less than that then I'll save that for a surprise and not expect it
You win the (unfortunate!) prize.

Upset, but not surprised tbh. Although was hoping for some 'finals leniency'-guess it doesn't work like that for us

It was always headed this way but that doesn't make it right. The AFL must get the MRP back on track and back to the fundamentals of why we have a reporting system - to eliminate to the greatest extent possible 'dirty' acts and conduct that has the potential to cause serious injury. Chappy's was neither.

It's Chapman's fault. Not the MRP.

He had a big opportunity, had timed his year to perfection and blew it. Yet another senior cats player losing his head and probably costing us. Bigtime.

Bring on Murdoch, it'll be a freakin' miracle if we get up on Friday.

This. What's being lost in all of this is Chappy's decision to bump and not tackle. When are some of these guys going to learn, you CANNOT bump anymore. Why did he put himself (and the team) in such a position in the first place? It was dumb. Don't give Fraser and the MRP the opportunity to cane us. Simple.

Richards charges at the Carlton player who doesnt even have the ball, yet Chapman actually affects the kick and its reckless...MRP is officially corrupt!

Only difference is that chappy left the ground although I believe his bump was softer and less likely to cause damage whereas richards was more from the front and collected him fair and square in the jaw.
I don't believe either player is malicious, I believe both were negligent. The only thing I would've said that with no previous record chapman could've been downgraded to a reprimand with an early plea whereas buddy has priors.

Maybe if he was wearing a red and white guernsey:(

This needs to be challenged.

Buddy and Richards pick off players behind play with forceful bumps and both get Negligent while Chapman impacts the contest with a fairly innocuous bump and gets Reckless.

Something is definitely going on here; just too many rubbish decisions going against us.

How can Richards possibly be high contact yet still negligent given the player he hit didn't have the ball? Choosing to bump a player not carrying the ball when they're not looking cannot possibly be negligent. The only way Richards could surely have got less than the same grading as Chapman is if they threw it out completely saying it was below the force required to constitute a report.

Surely Geelong have to make some enquiries in the off season lining up all the comparable incidents our players have been suspended for that others have been let off for.

Now I know our players shouldn't be putting themselves in these positions for a start, but when you see others do the same, if not worse, and get nothing, there's something terribly wrong with the system.

Let's look at the "bright side". Say we get the job done, provided he's fit, there's no way Chappy can get rubbed out from the potential next game. Say all the moons align and we make it, and say that it's against Freo....(rubs hands together), well with all the rumours he might not go on, would love to see the 1970s violence return against a few Dockers who based on the fans of all other 17 clubs, bloody deserve it.

Serious question - worth challenging? Chappy easily best player last game - could argue won't be another game to worry about without him helping try and win this one...

Yep - it's called "equalization"

Whilst I agree it was Chappys fault, I wouldnt be upset if it were at least consistent!!

For Chapman to get weeks & Richards to get off for what is essentially a bloody identical bump is just ludicrous & further evidence that the MRP really do care what color jumper a player is wearing!!

If anything, Chapman should have gotten off lighter as he was bumping a player that had the ball!!

So the only determinant of 'reckless' is if you 'leave the ground' or not? Try harder **** heads. I think you will find most players feet 'leave the ground' when they run. Or do they get the digital ruler out and anything above 30cm is considered reckless. Fair dinkum what a joke.

Not going to complain to much about Chappys week that's what we thought. But how the **** can Richards get off and Chapman and Buddy get a week. Absolute disgrace of consistency. Oh hang is Geelong isn't it and Sydney are the AFL lovechild and give them the world. So they get extra salary cap and MRP concessions. Bullshit.

Agree completely. Farcical ruling and Buddy and Chappy can feel very aggrieved. Amazing though that 3 very experienced players went the bump with finals on the line, when will they learn?

225 points. The MRP have made absolutely certain that Chappy won't play against the Hawks, as we won't challenge and risk him for the grand final if we make it.
Well GFC has to call their ****ing bluff, and use a different lawyer to the one previously used.

No problems with the week-it was always going to get that. You can't leave the ground anymore. Not mad at Chappy. Love him and wish he could play of Friday but he will be firing on all cylinders for the GF.
Have some issue with Richards getting off-should have been a week also. Franklin didn't leave the ground, so even though it was late, not viewed so harshly. (of course his height means he doesn't have to leave the ground so if you want to get really technical-its just as forceful as a smaller guy jumping-but wotevs, 1 week for Buddy was okay)
Caddy or Murdoch in, or even roll the dice with Kertsen-now that would be exciting and gutsy.
