I see Harvey is still yapping in the media talking about Ablett now.

Bomber is still silent.

A storm is brewing....

Good, isn't it?

Bomber's at his best when he's NOT indulging in mind games in the media the week before the game. :thumbsu:

Got a mate who works at Freo on the video analysis and what not and he reckons they are going to target a few players physically and verbally.

Much like they did last year at Subi when they got within a whisker.

Mark Harvey: ...... we have got a couple of players that we'd like to think are x-factors (but) Geelong might have a few more, but if we can control them then we'll see what happens.

Media Hack: Mark, what do you think you'll do about the genius that is Giblett?

Harvey: Now we all know that he's a genius, (maybe) we've got to find a genius to play on him?

Not sure how that respect qualifies as yappin'?:confused::confused:

Re: Changes vs Fremantle

Two changes for me:

Ins: Pods, T.Hunt

Outs: Blake, Milburn

Controversial and it won't happen I know. But I reckon we are too one paced in defence - it probably won't matter too much against Freo but it will against the pies. I think we need a little injection of youth and speed.

Milburn ? Milburn ? You mean Milburn ???

One of our best defenders this year. Never going to happen - and it shouldn't IMO.

I know I know it may be seen as sacrilegious!! Milburn plays well on the smaller, tighter grounds like KP and Etihad. I reckon he can be exposed on the larger expanses of the G. I would be less concerned with rain forecast.

I saw a defence last week that appeared slow. Maybe they just played too conservative? But that game against the bulldogs a few weeks ago showed that the inclusion of a bit of youth can be a positive rather than a negative. T.Hunt has improved in leaps and bounds this year. His foot skills and decision making in my opinion were really lacking last year but he appears to have learnt quickly. He also reads the play well now and racks up a few touches.

Arguments could be made to drop either Milburn, Mackie or J.Hunt. Josh was pretty poor and can choke a bit in pressure situations. He would want to have a infinitely better game this week to guarantee his spot next week.

Re: Changes vs Fremantle

I know I will probably be howled down - Althoughh Joel Corey is one on my favourite players he has not been as good since he has come back from injury - What would we really loose from him being out of the side - I thing we have sufficent numbers to run through the midfield. Lonergan to play back. So Pods & lonergan In - Corey and Blake to miss. Would love to see if needed Milburn to play forward and Tomahawk Centre Half Back . Not the whole game but add a new dimension.

Re: Changes vs Fremantle

I also get your point YOTC.

But not Milburn out to get extra pace.

I would prefer Mackie to go out - but that wont happen either.

GFC- to me seem quite conservative in their team selection - so I expect just Pods to come back for Blake.

The next most likely would be Lonergan - but then we too tall and even slower in the backline.

I like you want THunt in for the pace - but who goes out ?
Corey ? Byrnes ? Very hard call IMO.

Does my head in a bit so I will just let the club decide this time !

Re: Changes vs Fremantle

i reckon chappy wont get up this week.

just a feeling.

Re: Changes vs Fremantle

What I think it will be: in Lonergan. Out Blake. What I'd like it to be: in Pods. Out. Hawkins.

I like the kid but purely for balance.

Can see where your coming from - just too late in the season for such radical changes.

I still reckon Hawkins would make a better CHB than CHF - if he got his tank up. Wont happen this year - GFC is a quite a conservative club and would back their known and proven structures of the past few years - except for Pods at FF.

Harvey has come out at the start of the week saying that all the pressure is on us etc etc, now comments about not knowing who is going on Ablett, and generally commenting on Geelong.

What have you heard bomber say this week? Nothing!!

Not sure how that respect qualifies as yappin'?:confused::confused:

You have posted on both boards like you have ADHD. just settle mate.

I am rapt for you to have this week where you can look forward to your team playing a big final though.

Re: Changes vs Fremantle

I would make the following changes if all players are fit:

IN: Pods, THunt
OUT: Stokes, Blake

If there is an extra change for injury I would love to get Menzel in for some extra run and a marking and goal kicking threat

I reckon Corey should be on the border line of selection, but wouldn't think Bomber would drop at this late point.

Stokes in my book and stats wise (see other thread) is clearly giving us the least in the forward line and through the midfield. I reckon we have enough forward options already considering the amount of our midfielders that can play forward instead of going to the bench (Ling, Ablett, Bartel, Chappy). More run is probably required through the middle and the back. Having 3 specialist forward pockets in the 22 (most other teams only have 2 at most) is overkill especially when our midfield is getting beaten. So Stokes is a clear out

Blake is very good at the bounces but does little else and the rest of the team obviously ignore him as a free option. I wish he wasn't in this position but he is just not a threat to opposition teams around the ground. I really wish he could have developed his marking and kicking but it has just never happened

I reckon we are losing the battle around the midfield, so again, I don't think defence is the position we need to bolster. So no need for Lonergan either and his inclusion would further slow us down

Re: Changes vs Fremantle

Stokes will not be dropped.

If it is a player of his type it will be Byrnes.

Stats wise Byrnes is adding a lot more in terms of tackles and marginally more in terms of goals, score assists, inside 50s etc etc... but I am okay with this as I said 3 specialist small forward pockets are a luxury when we are getting overrun in the middle of the ground

Re: Changes vs Fremantle

I would like to ask a serious question.

Why is there talk of Mackie being dropped? Thats an honest question as i dont watch enough Cats games. I have him in my dreamteam but stats dont obviously tell you anything.

In West they just announced he would be on the emergency list not the 22.

Is this cloak and dagger stuff or has he hit a patch of poor form, carrying injury etc.

Very genuine question.

Thanks.

Re: Changes vs Fremantle

Well on 3aw bomber said Pods was a certainty, and also when asked who would play on Sandilands if he played mostly as a forward replied Lonnergan. So you'd expect 2 changes. He was asked about Menzel and T Hunt, but said they weren't as good as the other guys.

So 2 changes I suspect. One might be Chappy if he doesn't get up, otherwise its probably Byrnes and the other will be Hawkins/Blake.

Re: Changes vs Fremantle

To answer that question for a Cats fan and part of this board will bring a lot of different responses - is my guess.

Some Cat fans really think he is over rated. Others will tell you he is one of Bomber's favourites - while others will tell you he is an integral part of the backline.

My guess is he will definitely play and I am not sure where they would get such information he will not be part of the 22 this Friday night.

Lonergan may come in - so there is a reason for a backline player to go out - so maybe some evidence for this call - but I still doubt it. He has played far worse than he is now earlier in the year - he was not dropped even after lost games.

Pods will play so a change must be made - but I suspect Blake will go - and that does not change the back line set up.

Expect him to be there unless injured is my best bet. Others will no doubt have other ideas on this board.

May the best team win.

Um! Although there may be no need for his inclusion, reading between the lines of Bombers comments tonight he'll play. I think the club believes Sandilands will spend more time forward because of his injury and Lonergan will possibly get first crack at him. Bomber said he tried Scarlo last time and Sandilands height was too much for Scarlo to cope with.

He was also asked whether he'd play an extra big man (meaning ruckman) to cope with Sandilands going forward and he said he wouldn't. Again, reading between the lines, I don't think that looks that positive for Blake.

Dylan Roberton has said he watches Mackie as thats his idol and plays based on him.

From what i've seen of Mackie he seems like a clean handler, good kick, decision maker but perhaps unaccountable in defence? Plus pushes up ground well and provides flexibility.

Unless he isn't playing to team structures or for reasons beyond his control i just cant see him not in best 22.

Re: Changes vs Fremantle

Nah I agree. Unless he breaks his leg or his head falls off Mackie is in our best 22 easily.
I also have a feeling chappy may not play, but thats probably a good thing if we advance and have him nice and fresh for the wobbles.

If thats the case I would be thinking T Hunt in. If chappy plays, would it be a possibility hunt for hunt? Just throwing it out there...

But Likely it will be jPod for Hawkins and that would be it I think.

Next week however, I would be thinking Hawkins in Blake out and someone to make way for either lonergan or T Hunt
