Sounds like a good day for both of the top sides today, thought Saints may of been more goals up that that. How was the movement of the Saints play, do they seem to be improving on their great form or staying at an even rate?

Saints havent played their best over the past couple of weeks. Teams are trying to slow them down by denying them the footy which works for a little while but once the turnover comes the Saints take advantage. Havent kicked alot of goals recently and im sure the inclusion of Walsh in the weeks to come will be a great addition

Well got to see the Hawks-Tigers game, and the 1st half was a USA Military display from the Hawks, they had the lot, discipline, big bombs, stealth, tactics, tanks(FullFwd), cluster bombs(on ballers) the lot, then at 1/2 time someone ended osama and the war was over, they packed up and went home!!!!!
Geez I tell yeh if they do that against one other side they will lose, BUT, I wont deny Watson and his team, they came out better equipped in the 2nd half and played GOOD footy, as I think they should be each week, so all in all, the Hawks were very good, the Tigers will be a very good unit by round 2, beware!!!
For the Hawks the Big fella at CHF went ok, ran out of fuel, Braddo?? in the guts is class, day over at 1/2 time, the sherman tank at FF went ok, couple of kids add some dash around the ball, yeh Hawks looked ok, but jury still out, must admit they were missing the Darwin lads, 3 weeks time will tell where they are at.
Good to hear the cutters were there abouts, might pack the cut lunch and water bottle and head sth this weekend and see the Hawks-Cutters game, should be good, are Port that good to belt the Beach boys by that much???
Lachrilly, are the Saints messing around to much, or are they genuinely getting stifled by the other teams trying to over posses the ball??
Interesting to here Roosey on TV the other night talking about clubs that are trying things against the pies, and they work for a bit, then fall over, as the pies have been working on their game plan for yrs, so why clubs try a 1 week effort is beyond me, I agree try something, but geez if you dont practice it you will come undone?

Saints beat souths by about 4 or 5 goals i think. Souths played pretty well and put alot of pressure on Saints. Saints if kicked straight early could have run away with it but to Souths credit they fought it out all day.
Saints won the 2's by about 100pts against a very undisciplined Souths

I'm not offering excuses but Cutters had a few Ressie players step up into the Seniors. In saying that, theboys were big enough to acknowledge they could have gone better. As for the Senior Grade, Cutters had at least 5 players out and had their opportunities but missed them. The younger guys stepped up again and went really well and should proud of their efforts. There were some stand out performances for Cutters which will auger well for the future. Not sure what happened to Saints but it took them a while to get going. They also missed their opportunities. Both teams were having problems getting through the middle sticks in the first quarter.

On another note, geez Crathern Oval must have been crap. What's going on there??

Couldn't off been too bad for the Seniors to play on and 9 goals from Justin White. 6.33 average this year from him.

Speaking of goal kicking...

Ryan Booth Manunda Hawks 23
Aaron Noonan Cairns Saints 19
James Coatsworth Cairns Saints 19
Justin White Port Douglas 19
Lee Campbell Centrals Trinity Beach 19
Samuel Boxall Port Douglas 17
Michael Markham South Cairns 15
Brenton Bading Port Douglas 13
Fred Pittorino Manunda Hawks 13
Gareth Oughton Centrals Trinity Beach 13

I believe the senior game was played somewhere other than Crathern Park, perhaps Holloways?

Geez, the dogs would be pissed with whoever is looking after the ground. Considering the sun the area gets, there needs to be a lot more water put on pitches since cricket season has finished. Hard grounds at Saints, Souths (middle only), Centrals, including particularly hard middle pitch areas and that's just the grounds I've seen. Cazalys obviously a picture becuase of the scheduled AFL game.

Would hate to see any more games relocated. It can be a big blow to clubs financially as well as on the field.

Who looks after the grounds? I guess it's different for each ground. Great setup down at Souths, particularly for the spectator, with the grass behind the goals next to the bar as well as the grandstand which overlooks it all.

Goalkicking ladder progressed as predicted with a big bag against Norths from Booth.

I see Saints had 35 scoring shots lachrilly, so it could have easily been a different result..?

I heard that Crathern park was unsafe for play this weekend...surely the AFL Cairns will see this as a bloody big alarm bell and do something. If we're to be serious, I had real concerns last season when we played there. I'm glad the Port boys spoke up, now hopefully something will be done and serious injury will be avoided. If they are judging the condition of the ground only by the risk of injury alone, then that's a real concern. Surley lift the expectations of the grounds conditions beyond simply, "are they too dangerous"! Port's ground is very ordinary also and is in desperate need of repair.

Saints did have their chances to put the game away early but couldn't convert. Lacking a bit of height up forward this season with Poyner the only big man option up there. And since rd.1 he has struggled a bit but saying that he had to ruck on saturday and played quite well. Noonan has been chipping in with goals every week but wont win you the game with a big pack mark and Coatsworth has also hit the goals when resting forward butis also a small leading option. Walsh's return will be welcome thats for sure. The Saints defence has been their key with all 6 having great seasons. Matt Harth is highly underrated and is having a great season, he is also spending some time in the ruck. Shame his marking and kicking sometimes let him down but he his a fine youg talent.

The seniors game was transferred to Holloways. I believe the ressies will be played at another time.

Port's ground needs a good top dressing to fill in the corrugation. Fretwell isn't that bad, you can hardly see where the cricket pitch was and I know it gets hit with quite a bit of water.

Harth is having a great year... Need to remember Saints had Couch, Rydges, Ragless, Walsh and Phillpott out Saturday. I understand souths had a few quality players out as well but the tap work of Rydges in the middle to the likes of Coatsworth and Powell is vital to the Saints and sees them win a lot of easy centre clearances..
IMO he is the standout ruckman in the league and under rated outside of the Saints
Souths coach Adams has copped some flack on here but from what Ive seen he is a lovely kick of the football and like the saints if u have your coaches getting 30+ touches and using the ball well goes a long way to winning the game. Difference Saturday was Coatsworth got the ball in the middle of the ground and Adams was getting it near the boundary or in the back half which made coastworth a lot more damaging
On another note I see Langford got in the best for the Hawks... trained at the Saints early on but when told he wouldnt get paid left to the Hawks... Looked good at training and obviously goes well. Where did he play for u guys Plugger??

Hard for the Souths coach to get out of the backline at times. He was taking the kick-ins and Saints kicked a lot of points.

Was a good player. Well spoken after the game in the rooms and led well on the field.

Whatever that clown was on about at the start of the season having a go at the Souths coach. I think everyone would agree that clown needs to look at himself rather than blame his own problems on others.

Bit harsh on Harth's marking, Lachrilly, he's probably taken the most marks in the team this year.

Haha You've gotta laugh....he came across to Hawks after deciding he didn't want to travel to Port and play. Trained with both Hawks and Saints and just liked it at Hawks better. Like many he's on incentives at Hawks, and should do ok out of it as he is a good player. He didn't want money, just wanted a job which we got him. Can play anywehere.

How can many be on incentives. surely everyone should be able to get them or is that what you meant. If only a select group can get them then surely thats almost the same as paying players

Yeah many meaning the many that are at the club, are on a good incentives scheme which varies between win and loss, and it is voted on by the players immediatley after the game. It's the fairest system there is in my book.

I agree any club that allows all players a chance to earn rewards for playing well is a good club. From what i hear though the amount varies alot from the seniors to the ressies at some clubs and i think that it should be a bit fairer but thats for the clubs to decide

I think incentives which can equate to payments are a pretty average way of rewarding players. It encourages individualist play in some cases.

If not built around a strong team culture, it will break up a playing list faster than anything else.

I'd love to know the voting system at hawks, 3,2,1 from each player or a vote from each player for one player?

At a after game function at Hawks last year both Souths & Hawks handed out their awards, if I remember correctly there were 6 handed out by Hawk.

Saint I've never seen a playing list even come close to being broken up over this incentive set up in 20 years involved in senior football.

The players vote 5,4,3,2,1 on a card after each game. There are 8 awards for each team.

And any individuals are brought swiftly back into line by the coach during the game!

That 5,4,3,2,1 system seems a lot better than other systems I've seen.

I was commenting more on incentive based payments in general, when they work, they work well, but when they don't work, they really fall apart.

As I said, it depends on the club, but also the individuals.

Most don't have the emphasis of the awards being essentially awarded by your peers, which you can't really argue with and is an improvement on most incentive systems I've seen.

If your peers out on the ground didn't think you were much chop, then you probably weren't.

Kiss of Death

Port in an upset
Souths
Centrals in a tight one not all their own way expect an improvement in the Lions

I'm out there on a limb

Tamba, showing some intestineal fortitude with your tips, good luck to you and your tips!!!!!!!!!!!

Saints by 23pts, should be a good contest,

Hawks by 18pts against an improving cutters,

Centrals by 45pts in a dour struggle.

Most unfortunate thing about this weekend will be the fuel bill, travelling from Cutter land, thru Griffith and across to Holloways Bch to catch a good weekend of action, pity that the Cairns AFL dont have an incentive scheme for us stupid people who like to see some of each game, wonder who could vote on that!!!!!

Good luck to all sides,

Good luck to all sides,

Saints will cop the hiding of their lives on the weekend. Port are coming good and I think the Saints are really struggling atm. I think Port by 65 points!;)

Centrals 20 goals

Manunda 75 points

I doubt Saints will cop a hiding. Their defence has been great all season. I do agree it will be close. Saints by 5pts

Centrals will be smarting after a poor effort last week and will win very easily. Dogs by 80pts

Souths took it up to Saints last week so this one might be closer than people think aswell. Hawks by 20pts
