AFL Cairns - 2012 Season

Interesting article in the fish wrapper about Hawks.

I think they'd be desperate to finish 2nd. Although you'd think they will handle Souths comfortably, it's never easy winning three sudden death finals in a row particularly with the lack of depth they have and the age of some of their key players.

They're a game and 30% behind Norths. So unless they beat them by over 120 points, I don't think they'll be able to make up the difference. Would make a pretty interesting encounter between Ehlich and his old side in their next fixture, then again in finals. He'll be a good addition to the Norths midfield.

How bad is the Cairns Post. Writing an article on Matt Walsh but putting a picture of his brother Josh in. Is it that hard to get that right. Other times he has been called Mick or Mark. Its just shocking that the local newspaper can't get these simple things right no matter who the player is.

I agree with you Lachrilly, very poor form on behalf of the Cairns Post today. How can they get it so wrong when his brother hasn't played in Cairns for 2 years! Also good to see Walsh saying the record isn't on his radar and would prefer to get Gilly the ton. That's what footy is all about! Port's season is over which means top 4 is virtually settled...Saints, Norths, Hawks & Souths. Can't see the order changing at all. Well done to Norths and Cutters for getting some September action.

Heard an interesting fact last night.

The reason Saints have new jumpers this season is because they were that confident of winning the premiership last year they had already ordered a new set!

Considering Saints had to order sizes for new players plus the new coach who requested a certain number and that he hadn't even been appointed yet i find this to be doubtful. If it is indeed true then im sure Saints wont make the same mistake again and im sure they wouldn't have been the only club to do something similar.Didn't Port already have GF shirts made up when Saints upset them. It's a cocky thing to do and one that makes a club look stupid if it doesn't get the prize.

Round 20 - Norths V Hawks at Watson Oval will decided who gets the double chance.
Add the way Ehlich ditched Norths and bagged the club no end while at Hawks, then the way he spat the dummy about not getting the captaincy at Hawks and ran right back to the club he so ruthlessly spurned, and we may see a fiery affair.

This should be billed as game of the season given it has all the ingredients for a battle royale! Let's hope the umpires don't ruin it. (too much to ask?)

It's true - came from the horses loose mouth after a few neck oils.

Port did order premiership t-shirts. But a few cheap t-shirts is nothing compared to a new set of jerseys! Those who know how much a full set of jerseys cost will attest to that.

Lachrilly, trying for the defence of ordering an entire new set due to needing a couple of new sizes or numbers for new players is pretty lame. If that were the case every club in the league would need new set every year.

Or maybe they ordered a new set because Topcon came on board as the major sponsor and last years jumper was covered with the Grand Hotel..... Sorry to let truth get in the way of you trying to sling mud ;) ... Nice try though. Craig Ferrier the owner of Topcon who is on the committee organised the new jumpers and they came just before the pre season comp ....

They were designed, but not ordered as they had to be accepted by the League. We changed as we are no longer the Grand Hotel Cairns Saints. So the logo was removed. It was decided last year that we no longer wanted black.

I am surprised that the league allowed all the jumpers this year.. On the weekend against Port we had a jumper clash, had another against Trinity Beach and I think the Hawks and Souths jumpers clash as well. How did the league allow this?

Well, not what this prominent Saint let out of the bag in front of four of us! But, have your defence, because we have the 2011 Cup(s).

Will Walsh kick the 9 goals needed to crack the ton this week??!

Yes, he'll kick 9 - $3.20
He'll fall short 5 to 8 goals - $3.40
He'll be well held - 1 to 4 goals - $6
He'll smash em! 10 to 15 goals - $2.90
It'll be a record breaker! 15+ goals - $7

Bookies copped a hiding with the favorite coming in. Word is Walsh had a cool G on himself hence why he slowed after half time. Investigations begin with Melissa Dunstan leading the charge meaning he'll likely get off.

No they don't, our are prodominatly red at the waist and back , that's not in Hawks colours

They only club we clashed with was when Souths wore RED shorts against Saints & that was the back view, our lads complained about that one which is why we changed :D

Some sides have a few design ideas at hand FOR NEW Major sponsers to choose if so desired, not for losing finals games

Most clubs I've been involved with get a new set of jumpers every time they get a new sponsor at the least, sometimes more often than that. Saints had to have new jumpers this year as they knew the Grand Hotel weren't going to sponsor again this year.

It's not uncommon for people to pull others' legs when discussing with people from opposing clubs. Happens on here all the time.

Wearing black jumpers in this climate is lunacy, but the other options for Saints are white and red, which two other clubs also wear. I reckon back to the basic three vertical stripes.

[quote="Well Dontargue most pundits on here had written souths off at the start of the season and I think the cutters can now rightfully claim that they are serious finals contenders.

I did read it Flintstone, as you can see above, you claimed Souths would be "serious finals contenders". I simply stated what everyone knows, Souths will be nothing of the sort. I hope they sneak in for 4th, but who ever does will be a long way off the top three.[/quote]
And as I have said already, we expect Souths to make the 4. When I said 'serious final contenders', I was meaning making the four. Sorry if you misconstrued a simple comment. I didn't realise you were so fickle. As I have also previously stated on here, no one expects the Cutters to win the GF (however a nice thought) but there are some realists amongst us.o_O

My kiss of death for this week -

Cutters to account for Centrals
Saints to give Lions a hiding to nowhere
Hawks to give Port a flogging

Oh, and go one of my horses in race 3 on sunday at the Cairns Cup....GO YOU GOOD THING AND MAKE DADDY PROUD:p

Don't know if fickle is the right adjective to describe what you're going for Flintstone.. English your second language pal?

Tips

Cutters
Saints
Hawks

Cutters, Saints by a fair bit.

Hawks by 2 goals. Will be a cracking 2's game. (NB I'm not saying anything about Souths reserves)

Need to bring in the doping squad on this

absolutely threw this game, was very peeved about it

Souths --- will Centrals have a Reserve Grade Team ??????

Hawks

Saints

Souths easy in both
Saints easy in both
Hawks easy in the 1's Port easy in the 2's

Agree with those tips.....
Interesting to read Centrals coach got his Grandmother to speak to the playing group before the game.... Can't say I've ever heard of this being done before but great to see he is trying everything to turn the club around.. Must say the people in charge out at Holloways need a pat on the back as they have managed to turn the club around from last year and field 2 sides each week and be competitive for at least a half in most games....

On another note when do the new scoreboards arrive at Fretwell and Holloways??? ;)

Went to Cazaly's today and the ressies was a very scrappy game. The umpiring was ordinary to say the least. However the Hawks boys held on for a win.

Hawks beat Port in the Seniors. Gribble received 10mins in the last quarter. He took out the Water Cooler and ice and water went everywhere. It wasn't a convincing win but Willie Alick would've had to have been BOG. Glen Martin also put in a solid performance. One other thing, geez the bloody wind was cold.

A new scoreboard at Fretwell has been on the wish list for quite sometime. Tamba can you shed any light?
