Re: Afl canberra part 3

Do you know if he made the Rams? I can't find his name anywhere and I think it will be difficult to be drafted without making the Rams who are a Div 2 side.

No he didnt make the RAMS I think because of injury. Dont think he played senior footy at Ainslie, maybe ressies? I dont think he is much good, just a good size and athletic

Re: Afl canberra part 3

I wonder if the new Giants outfit is going to go for broke in winning the ACT conference in their first season of senior footy.
as opposed to..... throwing games?

I'm sure you've been around long enough to know and understand that it doesn't necessarily mean throwing games.

For instance, their list at the moment consists mainly of kids, who may or may not be stars of the future. Against a few of those ACTAFL teams, with bigger, experienced bodies, they might struggle at times.

If they are keen on winning the comp first hit-out, they might try and get a bit of experience into the team.

If they are only interested in developing their kids for AFL footy, giving them as much game time as they can, then that might mean not making a serious tilt on the premiership.

Re: Afl canberra part 3

They will get experience into the team anyway, with the first 8 picks in the rookie draft (3 more than the GC had this time last year). Neville Stibbard has already declared they want to recruit some experienced players with these picks. Regardless of this, like the Swans, the development of their players and the team will be the primary objective rather than to win the premiership.

Re: Afl canberra part 3

See QBN has signed Campbell from Marist and Alex Overs... I dont think Campbell will even play seniors unless something miraculous happens in the next 3-4 months!!!

Overs will go alright, still only pretty young....

Any other signings?

Pro-active recruiting out tiger land way. Belconnen appear to have signed Chad Fletcher as his other half moved to ACT for work.
No word on pen to paper action at the demons or tri colours.
Possible signing at Hawkies of a retired AFL star with kickett and rice money? Anybody confirm this?....i would personally have paid the loyal players and young guns to stay.

Thats an interesting one, Flethcher would go alright.

also heard a whisper that Ainslie may be picking up Brett Burton with the Shirley connection and also Robert Eddy from st kilda...

Hawks likely to reveal a couple big signings shortly.... Possibly big Laycock from Essendon

Re: Afl canberra part 3

Guys, Have been o/s for the last six months and have returned to the news of the new North Eastern Football League. Can anyone tell me if all the AFL Canberra sides are in the comp or will the ACT have one rep side competing every week made up of a list of players from AFL Canberra.

Re: Afl canberra part 3

What happened to Tuggeranong?

AFL NSW have released a "temp" draw....Tuggeranng will be in the comp in 2011.
2012 could prove different...depending if Southern Cross Tuggeranong sign as major sponsors of the club.

Bout time some further goss was updated on here. Sadly i have zilch except that Andrews from Ainslie might have signed with North Hobart

Re: Afl canberra part 3

The Jets have named John Tootell as 2's coach. I am fairly sure he is the Navy coach, must be a Kenny Meredith contact.

All reports Andrews will stay with Ainslie. They have lost only one from last years years team and picked up heaps of kids from around the state offering big bucks again !!!! Nothing much happenning with other clubs. Qnbo picked up a few kids and have a quality coach to go with them. Eastlake are quite but have also picked up some young players, Belco lost a few but will recruit from the gibbsland and riverina areas and will be amongst the top contenders again after bad last half to 2010. Nothing much on Tuggers but they have great youngsters and with a bit of luck will be ok.

Re: Afl canberra part 3

Agree with you on the coach at Qbn (in my top 3 from my career).... and after having lunch with him the other day he is excited and extremely passionate about some of those kids coming to the club and through the ranks.

He sounds determined to bring the club back to being a club all sides once feared.

Makes me very optimistic about the clubs long term future.

I wont be predicting flags in all 3 senior grades like I think you did last season;)
