Re-did this to include Durham's upgrade, Menzie re-signing, and the potential for Walla staying.

If Martin stays as a rookie, then the rookie list is full, and Jayden Davey has to go on the primary list even if no one bids on him (we need to draft him with our last pick). If Martin is upgraded to the senior list then we don't lose any picks (because 37 can be senior or rookie so there are the same number of open spots). It would mean we can match a bid on Jayden if it comes in the national draft, or pick him up as a rookie if he slides. Either way Davey would take the 37th spot on the list.

If Eyre and Walla both stay on the senior list (and they can't be re-rookied if there's no spots), then we have four picks in the draft. That's Pick 4, Davey x2 and Munkara, or it's Pick 4, Pick 22 (or whatever we trade it for), and Davey x2. There isn't room on the list for both Munkara and whoever we would draft with a pick before Alwyn Jr.

I also don't see us having any spots left for the SSP or MSD unless there's an LTI.
Few scenarios to play out all based on how the draft goes.
Wonder if 22 stays live, do we just draft munkara.

Alternatively, is there a world in which we delist mcbride and have the luxury of both munkara and jayden on the rookie list? Or even delist tippa then add him as a rookie via SSP?

Or can eyre be delisted and go the rookie list?

Munkara's potential is so hard to ignore. I don't see how he goes beyond 40 and I'm really starting to think he probably lands somewhere else.

Sounds like there's an element of risk there. i guess it'll come down to whether someone is willing to risk a pick in the 30s to see if he comes good or not.

Could be an option with 22, either by drafting or trading it out (2x 3rds) then trading a 3rd back in to draft him.
I think with the list spot crunch that's coming if we sign Walla, we will know what we expect to happen with Munkara by whether we keep pick 22.

Yeah agree.
Night 2 of the draft could get interesting if davey isnt bid on 1st rd
If he isn't then we probably try to get pick 20 off GWS for 23 and our F2.

Which would mean we have written off getting Munkara (except through Cat B if he goes undrafted).
Not necessarily. 5 list spots. Can have 5, 23/24, Davey x2 and Munkara.

Not if we re-sign Walla, which was my original point that CE was responding to.
Ah, right. I still don't think Walla comes back honestly

Does drafting Jayden Davey and then immediately deactivating him solve the list spot conundrum?
It depends almost entirely on Walla.

If we are going to re-sign him then I think we have to do so by 10 November 2022.
If we want to put Davey on the LTI then
  • he has to be out until at least mid season next year
  • would result in us getting an SSP spot open, not an additional draft pick on the night.
If we want Walla, 2 x Davey and Munkara, then we can't keep pick 22 (unless we use it to draft Munkara)

Thanks, that answers that.

It’s a problem for sure, I guess Walla could sign through the SPP window, but that opens up the opportunity for other clubs to get in his ear.

Easiest way to resolve is to trade 22 for a future selection. I’d be comfortable with that, even if it’s a lesser second.
