The most essington outcome is we lose to norf. Beat GWS and the pies by a point because they’re resting players. Sneak into 8th with 12 wins but are completely beset by injuries going into the elimination final. We subsequently lose to Carlton by 94 points. We sack Scott and reappoint Hird. Vozzo is sacked by the board and Dodo becomes our CEO.

I'm laughing, but part of me just wouldn't be surprised any more at this outcome...

According to Ralphy Essendon and the dees are “drooling” over Daniel Curtain. I wonder if we try to get up the draft order.

Offer a band 1 contract to Mckay with the understanding we somehow get that pick in a trade?

Not surprised.
Would not surprise me if the Eagles tried to trade out of pick 1 with some sort of deal with North to get him despite Reid being a very clear number 1.
North get Reid and the Eagles get Curtain.
Not sure we can get that far up unless we we trading away this years first and a future first.

Curtain has a few more strings to the bow than just defense by the looks of it. Has had some really strong midfield games plus some strong quarters as a forward even though he has shone as an intercept defender.

He would stand out amongst our other defenders, very good skills and decision making.

Suggested something similar in the trades/FA thread.

Might have to get pick 2 just to make it pass the AFLs plausible deniability smell test. Just discuss with North who they want and don’t pick them

Think you missed my point
To answer the question he is not a dashing defender no. He is a mobile athletic tall with top end skills and has shown he can use his size through the midfield and also play forward and kick a goal when switched to the other end. Probably not our first priority but a massive upgrade on most of our back 6 if he lives up to the potential.

Good thing is, every year the players were really aligned to apparently never get taken by us

I will admit if we end up with pick 7 and Curtain is available vs Wilson then i wouldnt be totally angry but id prefer us to trade back in that scenario, should be plenty of buyers for Curtain at 7

I watch a stack of junior footy and was involved at very low level part time afl until a couple of years ago when Covid and family issues hit.
ironically I have probably watched more junior footy now than I have in four years.

you know, if we actually selected a defender that turned out to be a good defender, all of our pseudo-defenders could go back to playing in their best positions

If you're watching a lot of U18s you should consider making a draft watcher thread of your own so people can follow you for your insight
