All over for this year!

Check out our new picks from the draft:
Pick #13 (matched): Isaac Kako - Small Forward, Calder Cannons
Pick #37: Kayle Gerreyn - Ruck/Forward, West Perth
Pick #39: Angus Clarke - Defender, Glenelg
Pick #61: Rhys Unwin - Small Forward, Greater Western Victoria
Pick #70: Zak Johnson - Midfielder, Northern Knights
Pick #6 RD: Archer Day-Lewis - Forward, Bendigo Pioneers
Cat B Rookie: Jayden Nguyen - Defender, Calder Cannons

Id still like a marking fwd half type. Archer Day-Wicks is my number one want but doubt he gets to us. If not him then Sam Toner would be nice as that X factor forward type. I know we brought in Unwin and Kako but not sure they are small/mid sized marking types.

We’ve still got that wierd extra draft and a train on spot to go. I’d imagine we bring in a few midsize X Factor forward types and see who performs best in preseason

according to Lore, we are likely to take 1 x rookie, Jaxon Prior seems destined to sign as a delisted free agent and we always seem to (and have the ability to) leave a spot open for a train on player.

A little crazy that Richmond turned down trades for that pick only to draft Sam Day.

I could be wrong, but Nguyen strikes me as someone we should start in a forward half role. From what i've seen of him, he's super competitive, has a go, very quick, and creative. But you just can't have general defenders who are prone to mistakes by foot.

I'd look to give him a pretty simple Toby Bedford role (in his first season at GWS) based around pressure, coming up the ground to support at stoppage, and racing defenders back towards the goalsquare on fast turnovers.

he looked to play up the ground in one of his VFL games and looked to acquit himself quite well if my memory serves me correctly

If they are leftover why didn’t we take them last night at pick 72?

Rookies get paid less, and only get a 1 year contract.

Also there's a limit on how many players you can have on the main list, not sure if we've hit that or not. We're sounding likely to sign Jaxon Prior and I assume he'll go on the main list.

We've taken

Archer Day-Wicks

A mercurial prospect with strong aerial ability and sweet left-foot kicking, capable of playing in each third of the ground.”

STRENGTHS:
  • Aerial ability
  • Competitiveness
  • Kicking
  • Overhead marking
  • Scoreboard impact
  • Versatility

IMPROVEMENTS:
  • Composure
  • Consistency

I thought we were looking to sign Prior and relist Baldwin? Or will we take them in the SSP?

We don't take them in the rookie draft. I assume Prior will be signed once the SSP window opens. Baldwin it sounded like they wanted him to train with the club over preseason so might be a little longer.
