Maybe a slight change of topic. What about Nick.

Is he completely abandonded because of the knee or is anyone willing to run the gauntlet?
I'm still on because when fit he is a must have. Even if his numbers go down he will still be better than most. I just wish i knew whether I should pay 430k for him now or 350k later.

see how we go, pav a much safer option but i might still take the risk.

and by the way to hawks08 roughead is no pavlich and i guarentee if franklin plays all season that roughead will not lead the goalkicking

My biggest concern is that if the Saints are well up or down in the last quarter he could be on the pine being "managed".
yeah that is a very good point, not to mention a game v sydney round 1 should bring a elow average score in. might be better to go pav and get riewoldt later on if he is firing

Jarryd Roughead

I'd just thought I should give my two cents worth on Roughy.

Will always play second fiddle to Franko but expect big things from him this year.

He kicked 40 goals in 2007 with Franko kicking 70+.

With Lance getting more attention this year I think Jarryd Roughead will go close to winning Hawthorn's Leading Goalkicking Title, if he can get over his kicking woes.

Will play further up the ground in 2008 IMO, playing a Riewoldt like role.

Can be pushed down in defence if Hawthorn are in strife.

He is very cheap in DT and expect a price rise in 08.

Not very interested in going into personal little conflicts in a DT thread. But, if i must.

Firstly i agree with you about Franklin getting more attention which will result in Roughy getting more chances, if only he could convert better who would be a chance at leading the goal tally at Hawks. But in saying that i don't think he will, even with the attention buddy will still rip them to shreds, theres just noone to match up on him (except Gibson!).

You think he will play more up ground and go down back if needed, and yet still lead the goal kicking tally. Yes i know Riewoldt has played the leading up the ground role his entire career, but hasn't Gherig won their goal tally for the majority of those years as he has stayed closer to goal? And you made the reference to Pav as well, but really not much competition for Pav, maybe to a certain degree Tarrant. But Pavlich hasn't been needed to push into the middle anywhere near as much as past years due to players coming back from injury, recruited players and younger players coming through such as Carr, Crowley, Haselby, Schammer and Black etc.

I don't see him as ever being a good DT player, but i do rate him highly. Went a-bit off topic in there but just disagree with you on this one.

enough with the roughead talk... he has had an interupted preseason and the has the return off mark williams that will possibly reduce his goals.

dont you guys think buddy was already the #1 forwad target opposition teams aimed to stop last year?.. if you dont think he was, think again.

he will still lead the team in goals again this year, if not williams would be a chance, he could relish not being the #1 forward as he was in 06 and 05.. not to mention he is extremely hard to match up on.

Does anyone know if the Mickey Mouse cup rules apply to the Minnie Mouse cup (NAB Challenge) or is it back to normal regular season rules? In particular marks not paid from backwards kicks in the back half.

Back to basics mate.

Which is why you cant look too closely at players like Bowden and Birchall's NAB scores because they usually get a lot of 15m backwards chip marks.

Yep, I'm super keen on Buddy. Not at first, but the more I think about it, although he might be inconsistent, but I think it will be with higher floor and ceiling this year.

Maybe he's a chance to threaten the highest ever single game DT score (although I don't know what that is)?

Guys.

I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH: If someone is abusive and you abuse them back you are just as bad as they are and risk being infracted yourself.

So far I have mostly just been removing the abuse so you will get the hint. Soon every time it occurs all offenders will be infracted and those that cannot follow the rules (whether they start an argument or merely get themselves involved) will not be able to read or post on this board anymore.

I remember reading an article about the Ds / Dogs game where the lights went out early and it said the quarter was shortened from 17.5 mins so the TOG is certainly the same.

As for the other rules, couldn't say but would think they are as they all fit under the NAB preseason banner.

Pretty sure either Wayne Carey or Leigh Matthews holds that record, leaning towards Carey around 180 DT odd, but it was obviously when AFL DT wasn't heard of.

183? 186? Jimmy Bartel in the wet aginst Port a couple of years ago?

So people have actually calculated DT scores from old games!? That's even more obsessive than sitting around reading DT internet forums late at night!

ablett snr one game (first year it was recorded-93) had 25kicks 0 handballs 12marks 0 tackles 0 hitouts 0 FF 0 FFA and kicked 14goals 7 for a grand total of 202

Thats the only reason why you would get Brian Lake (Harris). At least if you have him you wont be soo annoyed about the way they close out quarters

I probably would have cashed him in for Billy Brownless in the week before.

(Geelong probably lost that day too hehe)

carey scored 209 in '96.. 33 possys 15 marks 11 goals.. not bad, i think ablett might have one higher not sure... its on montys site somewhere

nah careys 209 is the highest i no of

i think the highest score wen it was hardest was i remember a few years ago joel bowden got 174 wen they got belted by port. this was after the era of big goal kickers getting 12+ goals and b4 there was huge chip to chip games of today
that game the tigers only had 303 disposals and only 79 marks (both dwarf statistics compared to todays standard)

personally i think thats the best dreamteam performance ever
