past afl games have had it. AFL LIVE 2004 Premiership Edition was the best AFL game, in terms of stats, there is. After a match, before getting to the next match menu the stats leaders (top 10.) would pop up. Brownlow votes, goals, marks, tackles, Disposals, kicks, handballs and hitouts. It was sooooo gooood!

On easy mode the game was a guarantee that your ruck got 2 votes and your CHF got 3

Grab it out of the ruck contest, hold triangle for the snap, CHF leads and marks it. Goal.

4.5/10 in the latest Game Informer. Weird review. Obviously reviewed before the latest patch which is fair enough, but he talks about issues I've never even heard of as common experiences which makes me think he played it without even the day one patch.

It's not perfect but I wouldn't have rated it that lowly. Given their rating scale (via Wikipedia: "A score of 1 is considered worse than terrible; 10 is a rare, "outstanding", nearly perfect game; and 7 is "average", a decently playable (but flawed) game") I'd give it a 7 (with latest patch installed).

Ah well. The review is way too late to influence sales.

Played a ton of it.

+'s
  • Roster editing, body and player editing. We think it's basic, but some current gen massive sports games (2K14, NHL15) didn't allow it.
  • Player likenesses. Not perfect, but pretty good.
  • Marking. I like it. It requires enough skill, and is easier to do it with better players.
  • Every now and then, the game has a nice flow to it. Hitting up a lead, giving off the hands, shimmey, dribble goal. A few times every game, you'll be very impressed and it will feel and look like football.
  • Lots of animations look really good. The marking ones are well done, and often in context. Kicking is ok.
  • Controls are deep enough. Dribbles, dodges, fend offs. There's enough there, and it's functional.
-'s
  • Ive been banging on about this for weeks, but it has to be said. Modern positioning needs to be part of any future games. 18 one-on-one contests simply does not replicate modern football. Nobody gets off the chain, no slow defenders get burned on leads. There is no switching, there are no floods, zones, quick hands out the backs, or possession football. Has to be in next game. Has to be.
  • The tackling needs lots added to it. It's robotic. The tackle input happens, and the tackler brings the ball handler to ground. PLayers rarely stand up in a tackle, they rarely get a disposal away (except the CPU 30m handballs). Needs to be more missed tackle animations, more ineffective tackle animations and more animations that let players get disposals away in tackles.
  • Set shots. Needs to be more dependent on player ratings. Every shot goes straight.
  • The sound is awful; the crowd, SFX and commentary. It should not be a priority to fix for a future game (gameplay comes first) but it is awful.
  • Player movement is too fast. They change direction with no weight, they zip around running from tackle to tackle. They players have no sense of weight and again makes possessing the football very very difficult.
I keep playing the game, so it has a lot going for it, but there is a lot to work on for a future iteration. Hopefully WW is up to it.

Had a really weird experience playing the other night.

Can't remember who I was playing (might have been Gold Coast), but it was fairly tight for the first three quarters, I led by about two goals early in the last term, playing on very hard.

After a bit of back and forth without any real score, I started absolutely dominating. I was literally punching the ball forward in the ruck, my CHF would pick it up, handball to a midfielder running past and they would either kick a goal on the run or pass to the FP/FF player who would mark and goal. I kicked 14 goals in the last quarter (7.5 min quarters) and ended up winning by 100+. Never felt so in control of a game in my life.

In past AFL games, I used to muck around on purpose so the opposition would stay in the match and keep things interesting. But in this game, I actually enjoy destroying the other team as it feels so satisfying putting together quality pieces of play.

Is it very hit and miss for you too? I go from Buddy kicking it from 50m on the run through the middle, to Buddy kicking it on the full from 30m dead in front.

I think I may have worked it out, if you have a running shot at goal when your sprint meter has fully depleted, you are much more likely to spray the shot. When I take my shot, I make sure I'm not sprinting and it usually goes straight.

Anyone still playing actively? After all that hype, its collecting dust in my games pile....

I still play it every night...

it's my meditative relaxation ritual after i play guitar/keys or read a book...

really like it, but that's just me, i can understand how some things might get on people's nerves, but i really like certain aspects of the game and it really does feel like a half decent modern game for once. Not super polished just yet though, probably version 3.0 of the game and it might get to "very impressive". But i do think, considering it's a smallish company making it for a smallish market, it's actually nice that it does exist.

I play it because i like certain gameplay features, such as the dribble kick, the lob handball, the ability to run a 360 degree line around a contest, the animations are pretty good, i like most of the gameplay whilst in the forward 50 now, the first time that's ever occurred in any AFL game. There is somewhat of a realism as well, which i like....

Marking is still something that is a complete enigma to me, but i think i'm getting there with the timing...

It's been ages since we got an update about the PC version

If history is any guide the publisher will release the PC version when they feel there is no more money to be made from the consoles and all the main patches are out of the way. Profit forecasting from PC sales typically sit at around 10% of console, unfortunately it's not material in most cases. We're probably a bit lucky we're getting it on PC at all. I don't think BA made a cent from the PC version, or at least not enough to cover their costs.

I've been getting done throwing the ball so many times since the update, almost every time I get tackled.

Played a game yesterday and at one point the free kick differential was 22-1 the AI's way.

I think that is something that will hopefully be addressed in 2B update..

The throws are out of control.

THey even show the replays which show they are clear handballs.

I agree with what you say about the game, but I think for me I just haven't played it much lately is a lot of the replay value has been taken out. I got the same with NBA 2K17 (didn't help they also had about 6 patches in the first 3 months of release)

Evolution just needs that gameplay tweaking so its not 18 1 vs. 1 contests.

Edit: Found out how to easily get the Silverware trophy in less then 15 minutes. Found this on another board. These are Xbox controllers but same applies to PS4

Once in the Main Menu, head over to "Competition".
Select your league of choice, e.g. (AFL, VFL, TAC).
Select every single team to be user controlled.

Leave every Match Option aside from GAME DIFFICULTY, set your game difficulty to LEGEND.

Once you start the competition go over to the "Fixture" option, and press the
cn_A.png
button.
Press
cn_LB.png
to get to the last Round of the Fixture, head to the last match on the fixture and press
cn_Y.png
to simulate to that match.
Once done simulate every game manually, is a bit of a hassle but there's not many.

Doesn't matter who wins as you've selected every team. You must complete the process for all Leagues, the only one which was a bit weird was the International Cup. Still took me around 10 minutes to simulate it all.

THIS PROCESS MUST BE REPEATED FOR EVERY LEAGUE:
- Toyota AFL Premiership Season
- NAB AFLW
- VFL
- NAB U18 Championship
- TAC Cup
- International Cup

Semi active. Currently on my second break from it (only been a few days since I last played).

I've done one single Hawthorn season
I've done 2 coach career seasons.
I've done 4 rookie seasons (vfl Box Hill, then 3 at Brisbane)
I've done one listed career as Hodge. Started a new one last week as Isaac Smith.
