I guess my biggest shock comes from people who hate the game being offended by people enjoying the game and wanting to talk about it. Pretty sad state of mind if you care about that.

Ummm seems you are the one offended by people not liking a badly made game.

Played a few games last night. Not bad but it's clearly been built from AFL Live 2 and it still shares some of its issues.

I like the inclusion of a tap button, I've wanted it since AFL Live but it's a bit annoying having it mapped to the same button as handball. I often want to pick it up and handball straight away but instead I just tap it into the opposition player.

It would be nice if the marking contests relied more on positioning than timing. It's silly watching the ball go right passed the man in front only to be spoiled by the player behind who just awkwardly places his fist out.

I'd also like a bit more leeway with holding/throwing the ball. Often, the contests are so chaotic that I only get 1 second to realise I have the ball and by that time I've been tackled and it's too late. This is especially annoying when coupled with the advantage rule that is just automatically applied if your team still has the ball. No matter how bad of a position you're in.

These problems make it frustrating and the game is far from great but I still feel like WW have improved a lot from AFL Live 2 in terms of AI, animations, movement and presentation.

Lol the ball just got suspended in mid air and all the players ran around like mental patients for a good three minutes. Even when time elapsed the siren still wouldn't go! I had to go into the instant replay, back out to the match, then the footy would slowly lower like the Times Square ball drop on NYE until it reached the ground then the siren went :drunk:

I keep hearing small budget, but how many small budget games retail at $79?

Is there any actual figures so we can compare?

The budget makes no difference if people are willing to pay $79, which they clearly are.

Thankfully I won't have a chance to play his for a fair while, so I'm holding off getting it. Hopefully it's half decent by the time I do get my hands on it.

Not at all. I just dont want to read about it because I know the issues. It's not adding any value to my life.

I have no issues with people focussing on their view of how shit it is but it gets very old when your trying to see what the people enjoying it think.

Its a pretty unfair comparison. Like comparing a ferrari to a VL commodore...
I completely agree with you here except they are charging the same price for the Ferrari and the VL haha and we all bought the VL.

Im not comparing it, it was always going to be so much worse than other sports games but who cares we have an updated AFL game. If you don't enjoy it or don't want to buy it that's fine don't.

People if you're wondering why companies like Wicked Bitch and Bug Ant keep trying to crack an impossible market with substandard console games and charge a stupid price for it that it no way reflects the quality of the game, the reason is they've done their sums to work out they can profit. They can rip of the public by giving them a game in a market that will pay anything, and it doesn't matter if its shit, it will come off the shelves.

This piss poor "small budget, Aussie developer, lets support them' excuse used by supporters of them is getting tiring. They release this stuff knowing full well its shit but makes money cos people like the freakoids around here pay for it. AFL is a niche market and desperate people will pay anything cos their is no alternative. Same goes for cricket.

They could use their small budget to make great android/iphone games. But the business model of releasing shit console games and ripping the public off is better for them. They know this. They would have financial advisors to work this out. Simple.

Don't be sucked in.

What was their budget? And how many sales will they get?

Also, if it's so hard for a small-time Aussie dev to get gameplay right, how did BA, in their first attempt six years ago, produce a game with better gameplay than anything WW has produced, despite WW having made several attempts.

BA didn't make any money on Live 1. It was a gamble that a solid foundation would grow into bigger and better things. Pretty sure it all came down to $$$.

If the AFL gets serious, you never say never. Although in fairness to WW if they get more money from the AFL they could probably make a better game as well. The AFL needs to see the franchise as a necessary investment, and not just a commercial opportunity where the Publisher owns all the risk.

players not reaching the goal line with kicks at goal during play when they would in real life, such as Rich, suckling being able to kick a 65-70m long range goal during play, etc?
Only every single human controlled player. AI has no problems.

I've found the game great. On medium and I got a reality check. Got smacked. It's a fun game with a couple of issues but otherwise it's good.

I love the player models and you can easily tell players on the field. Some of the speckys, dribble goals and high tackles I have seen so far have been fantastic.

Marking and spoiling is very hard but I enjoy it

Like I said before, Wicked Witch are the "balance sheet" alternative.

Two things that seem fixable and would do wonders for this game.

1. Automate marking- It isn't enjoyable vs the AI because of how one sided and random the marker is. I'd rather trust the algorithm of "Nick Riewoldt has a far higher rating than Lynden Dunn, there's a 72% chance he will Mark this ball, etc etc. this would make player stats seem more plausible and we wouldn't have to stress about holding triangle as soon as a ball is kicked.

2. Edit opposition team tactics- we can change our teams from man on man, but it isn't reflective when you change it yet there are still 1v1 match ups. Having even three settings would be great (Switching the play/ Playing the Boundary/ Through the corridor) and having the AI switch between them even randomly throughout the game would be a huge improvement. Even adopt the FIFA directional controls where you go ultra defensive/ Defensive/ man on man/ aggressive/ all out attack would result in a great variation of game styles.

These things wouldn't need any fundamental changes to animations or anything like that and imho would take this game to the next level.

For single player, I found it a lot more bearable if you play on AFLW 16 a side rules, tends to clear up a bit of the congestion and I found it a lot easier to score.
