Can someone please give me step by step instructions on how to mark? I'm losing it.

I played online and obviously the bloke I played had perfected it.

Do you:

A) Have to be inside the circle before you press triangle?
B) Do you have to be a certain distance within it? I have pressed triangle as it goes solid, even when i'm in front, and yet my opponent outmarks me from behind.
C) Are players not drawn to the mark placement? I assumed the player AI would assist you, yet as soon as you let go of sprint they just plod to the mark and your opponent outmarks you from behind.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've found pressing the mark button before it lines up works the best. Granted I've only played one game.... but I managed to get 17 marks (against the AI's 41 mind you lol).

I got belted 54 (7.12) to 1 goal - Richmond would have killed me if the AI kicked more accurately. Even after their many behinds I couldn't go beyond the wing before turning it over (guess I'm emulating Hawthorn's current game plan really well!). Scored a goal right at the end when I finally knew what to do.

Missed a few easy set shots for goal, eg: one on the half time siren.... on the 50m line, go to kick it and it doesn't even reach the goal square :D.

I turned the commentary off in the menus before I started the game............ only to be greated by Dennis and Richo when I started the match, turned off the volume in the options before the first bounce.

I think the pc version has the most potential to shine, just as the pc version was a far better experience on AFL Live back in the day...... It will hopefully be a better experience with Evolution. What's killing the atmosphere for me is the frame rate....... and I don't just mean in between replays and ball transitions after a point. It moves a little jagged in general play. It should be better on pc (it would want to be an uncapped frame rate!).

Granted, online is way more fun when you're up against someone that is as clueless about the whole marking situation and general controls as you.

But when you come up against someone that has somehow mastered it, the urge to rage quit is too strong.

I have never read the instruction manual for any other sporting game as hard as I did with AFL Evolution, and the worst part is I still have NFI what i'm doing wrong.

Might've been a smart thing for Wicked Witch to release an instructional video for a sporting game as complex as AFL. Disappointing.

Played my first game of be a pro (playing as Arnell in the AFLW to test it out)

Plays really well and feels good to string together some play through the middle then hit up the short target inside 50 (finished up with 25 possessions which feels nice and realistic)

As for the interchange glitch, I watched the game and interchanged myself back on when I was at full stamina again (I would play the majority of the quarter and then get taken off in the last few minutes of each)

It feels awesome to finally be playing this mode in an AFL game

I can't believe they're charging $79 for this shite, let alone 100 bucks at EB. Looks like an indie game, a poor one at that, 50 bucks max

Just played the game an hour ago and that is ridiculous, if you've come to that conclusion then i don't know what to think...

Played two games last night. EB were happy to price match JB (who didn't have any copies on their shelves) without any proof.

Enjoyed what I played. Highlight was Nic Nat beating Sandi at a throw in the forward pocket, Priddis grabbed the ball and snapped the goal.

I like that tackles and hip and shoulders are brutal. My favourite (which I didn't see at first, only after the replay) was LeCras got dumped off the ball. So random, but would be something Freo would do.

Marking is weird but I still took more than I would in an average game of AFL Live 1 (granted I would play that on the hardest difficulty, and I played my two games last night on the easiest). From reading posts here it seems people have mastered it online, we just have to practice.

Look forward to hitting it hard over the weekend, and I'll post more impressions then. I've played pretty much every AFL game since AFL 99 (missed one or two of the IR Gurus games) and from what I played last night, this one is one of the better ones. Maybe even the best, but I need to play more.

The more you play the more you'll learn obviously but I'd suggest staying offline until you have a rough idea how to play

Marking and spoiling works quite nicely once you start to get your head around it

Is the marking just flat out broken or do you think you'll be able to improve with more you play it? Is there a tutorial?

WW needs to make SPOILING actually work!! I think spoiling is the issue - almost impossible - but it would make the game 100% better. A spoil should be easier to pull off than a mark. Bringing the ball to ground more often would open the game up more. Also

Maybe changed mark from hold down and release to just hold!
Change Tap to : Modifier + Handball button.

I dislike WW a lot but this is not completely shit but there are some really dumb shit happening (short marks under 10 meters paid, AI missing from goal square, Advantage is flipping horrible (did WW even play this??).

The question is whether WW is going to stick around to patch and fix this or do they leave it as is. BigAnt would patch, over to you WW.

Spoiling does work better if you hold L2 and use right stick instead of triangle

I've found it to be the opposite (although I've only played on medium).
I can spoil very easily even from behind but marking requires perfect timing which is hard to judge.

Here's how WW can be helpful and market their game at the same time ...

1. Create a video "How to Mark Like Nick Riewoldt in AFL Evolution."
2. Have a dev give step by step instructions on how to actually mark the ball in that video.
3. At the end of video do the whole "in stores now"
4. Everyone on here will watch it, share it, and direct their friends to it.
5. ????
6. Profit!!!!

Do it for other skills, tactics, and all the other issues people have brought up here. Rinse, repeat.

Show the community you care + more exposure = more $$$ for you and better experience for us ...

Wicked Witches a video marking tutorial would get so much free exposure. Plz, I just want to be able to mark the ball as McGovern without some tiny forward flank diving from 15 metres deep to grab it.

Bloopers I have seen:

1) This was me and my fault, attempting to kick a goal on the angle almost on the boundary line. Lined it up so it would go dead straight.............. but still went out on the full.

2. Again human controlled mistake, lined up straight shot at goal just off the goal square............ Almost did a Cloke and hit the goal post (mistakingly went for a banana kick and it curved but missed the post... just!).

3. CPU AI mistake: goes to kick the ball in after I score a point. But the cpu AI gets stuck walking into the goal post bringing the ball back into play. Game counts that as another rushed behind.

Or everyone could just learn to play the game

I think for the first time we have an AFL game that actually has depth and complexity in it's gameplay and everyone is just pissed that they actually have to learn to be good

I keep getting taken off in the first quarter because I'm fatigued. I then simulate and the games ended
Don't simulate just watch it

If you're like me then there won't be that long until the end of the quarter so watch out the quarter and if you aren't back on at the start of the next quarter just go into team lineup and put your player back on

God forbid two people have a different game experience. Like I'm sticking with the game and enjoying it a solid amount, but you can't deny there's things that could be clearer and need tidying up.

Just because it's the only AFL game we've got and that is better than nothing doesn't mean people can't be frustrated with facets of the game.

What do you think the purpose of the tutorials would be ....

Hint: to help people learn to play the game

Did a pretty quick season in manager mode with Freo.
Did very well at the start, then lost a heap of games in a row, then I played all the young players and we won 5-6 in a row.

Richmond won the premiership...
