Its obviously hyperbole, doesn't change the fact that it looks like arse. Not just in polygon density, the animations look completely robotic.

Still, obviously not a hard sell for you folks. Why would the AFL bother putting the money in if people are happy with junk regardless...
Agree 100% here. the game doesn't look all that bad , il give them that. But it's gonna play like crap, as soon as the two Ruckmen went up at the start of the trailer and the ball connected with the wrist of the player , i new this would suck. Not to mention the ease beams collects the ball and sprints right out of the middle lol

While I agree those two things are a little awkward looking I think it's important not to jump to huge conclusions (either way) based on snippets of footage of less than a second in length from camera angles that will be not even in the same universe as the ones we will see in game.
The ruck animation we see from one such camera. We simply will not see it from that close a distance and definitely not that sort of angle.
EVERY sport game has a few dodgy collision detection problems from certain angles if you look for them.

As for the Beams one. Yep looks funny, but we have no context for it as it's a clip of less than a second.
It looks like he's maybe sprinted through the pack for an intercept or the ball has suddenly come back from a different direction.
The ball may have been pinging around back and forth between players either side of this pack making the AI look a bit silly cos they haven't kept up.
But we haven't seen what took place before the clip nor have we seen how the AI reacts to Beams taking off after the clip ends.
It's unreasonable to make sweeping judgements of any kind based on tiny clips.

I will never stop laughing at how averse to negative opinions this board is. If you're not posting something glowingly positive it upsets the natives. Too scared to call a spade a spade.
But you said the game looks the same as ones from 2000 which is blatantly wrong.

If your criticism was balanced and not just "this is shit" maybe people would respond to it better.

Negative opinions are one thing but being a total troll for the sake of being a troll is another, if you dont like the game then leave or better yet wait until its actually released before passing judgement.

but hey we are all excited and we should just be thankful for anything we are served up, even if it's garbage???
It's a dangerous school of thought because it can lead to nothing ever improving. It sends the message that below average is ok and there's no need to ever try and get better.

Please. Plenty of discussion of positives vs negatives goes on here. Plenty of people have even commented on the same Evolution-related things you have in this very thread without much fanfare. If you read back you'll see a bunch of comments from people about how robotic the animations look.

When you are extremely hyperbolic in your criticism, though, people get their backs up. That's not specific to this board, nor BigFooty itself.

There are some people that will defend things like this to the hilt and they stick out like sore thumbs and deserve some criticism (not that it will accomplish anything). But to suggest that anything negative is howled down disproportionately to anywhere else on the site or elsewhere is just not right.

Heh, one throwaway comment about it looking like an early 2000's game (where surely hyperbole is implicit) and they came out of the woodwork. I then revised that by stating the animations are bad and the texture quality is poor. Still howled down. I'd call that a disproportionate response.

In fairness your next comment wasn't exactly civil either.

There were definitely some disproportionate responses, as I implied. Suggesting it's a problem with the board as a whole though is something I just don't agree with. You get people that will jump at criticism everywhere (like the Basketball board, for example ;)), particularly if it seems hyperbolic or excessive, and perhaps this board does lean closer to the positive as people would prefer to discuss games they like than those they don't, but generally there are comments from both sides.

Shout out to all those posters who have sat back, have waited for announcements, who haven't criticized WW or the AFL in their way of handling the new game, who haven't criticized the graphics/fanhub or any of the features in the game. For those who have sat back and waited for the game to be released instead of messaing the Facebook group hounding them with questions on release date and trailer.

Something I'd like to see (maybe in the future) in pro mode is player development through actual training drills

So when you start your career your player starts with base stats for their particular position, when they play games their given ratings on how they performed in different areas and if they're marked below average in certain areas then the training drills they are given throughout the week reflect this, depending on how you perform in these drills your stats in that area will increase or decrease

doing the same sort of thing for concussion tests/return from injury?

There's nothing wrong with asking questions of a developer.

Be nice if this game had player perks

Example sharpshooter....bullet passer...or somone who can kick 55+ even blokes who are known for tackling/pressure or samw for blokes known for takibg big marks and hangers.....would take a fair bit though considering all the different abilities which go into a afl game and all the different positions

Well, if it plays anything like Live 2 than this "we're going back to the 2000's" claim isn't invalid. However, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. That trailer looked quite promising with the grubber kicks and selling the dummy footage. Even though it's not consistent gameplay footage, it's just random shots. Although, the graphics statement is far off. Even Evolutions graphics far exceed Live 1's graphics with ultra settings on PC.

Yep

When you get injured your stats take a hit and you have to work in training to build that back up, the better you do in the drills the greater increase to your stats

Maybe when you're out injured you still do the training drills but are limited to certain drills depending on what you've injured

Simply calling it arse is a lazy way to criticise the game without looking at the bigger picture, certainly you might say that certain animations look a bit awkward or a bit staggered, but that can be down to things such as budget and time. 2K headquarters probably have a department devoted to just animations, hence you might notice smoother movements across the board in the 2K games, because the huge budget means more time spent on specific detailing of the game...

The AFL don't put the same money in because it's technically a very small market compared to soccer and NBA basketball...

it's enough for leagues like AFL football and Rugby to still get some nice enough games developed with a team of developers that can do what they can with the scope they have....

Rugby games are pretty damn good now and AFL is a 360 degree and open game, so technically even more difficult to translate into a game environment so for that alone, hats off to Big Ant and Wicked Witch for giving it a go and putting in a fair amount of details and craftsmanship for the technical challenges involved in making a game that mirrors AFL football ...

Having a game come out on a PS4, next gen, is an achievement in itself..just like having two games on the pS3/xbox was also a pretty good achievement for a game that is played in five states of one country. It's technically still a very small league/sport compared to worldwide sports..

So if the game gets close to some of the bigger titles in some areas at all, its still a pretty big achievement...

For all the terrible comments by rude people who post on the official Facebook page, the developers and publishers simply do not deserve it at all, considering the big picture...

The fact a game exists at all on next gen, current gen, modern times, is an achievement in itself..

That AFL Live 1 & 2 exists at all is actually kind of unlikely in comparison to other global sports that have bigger followings.

You should be feeling amazing that any games exist at all on modern consoles, considering it's a pretty small league globally speaking.....

Well, the AFL is always looking to have their own video games, so why does that make it a miracle? And you're saying The AFL don't put their money into small markets? What about the expansion sides of GWS and Gold Coast? Surely funding video games would be a more safer gamble. FIFA didn't start out as a big market, but it got funding and grew into a bigger one. Also, the rude comments are always gonna be there. The big developers get even more criticism, so it's not just smaller developers.

Just realised that the trailer has absolutely no spoiling.

If it's like Live 2 gameplay, in that players just take uncontested chest marks in the middle of contested situations I will be filthy.
