Using the name Evolution makes it sound like they've just gone **** it and made a bunch of changes to make development easier.I think the name actually fills me with more confidence. The name suggests the game is evolving therefore, it should be very different to AFL Live 2. They've had 3 years and with the new name like it is, the game should be an improvement. My early tip for front cover player is the Bont as he represents the game's title as a 193cm midfielder. My runner up for the cover would be Tom Boyd, at least better choice then Reid.
I'm hoping they'll go a multi-team cover, maybe a decent shot from the Grand Final similar to what AFL Live had.
Ambrose Burnside said:I think the biggest issue with AFL as a videogame is the sheer size of the ground. Most camera angles make it impossible for you to pick out a player on the lead 50m away so the gameplay tends to be gather ball, bomb it straight down the line, to a one-on-one contest, rinse and repeat.
Limiting you to controlling one player could be a way around this.
I was also thinking of a different approach with controls to let you still control the whole team. Instead of the usual A = kick B = handball etc. make the controls context sensitive so when you gather the ball, controller icons appear above teammates and when you press that button your player will try to get it to them. That could be by hand or by foot depending on how far away they are. Eg Priddis gets most of his touches at the bottom of a pack, so when he gets the ball it's likely that all of the face buttons could result in handballs, but to different players.
Skill, weather, pressure, your timing etc could all affect how well players dispose of the ball. I think it will help with camera angles and stuff cos you could have icons on the edge of the screen corresponding with players further away.
Does that make sense?
Make a cover. I'd love to see what you'd come with! That cant be the real graphic in the op? Give me 50 bucks and a few hours and ill give you something 10000% more professional.
I never had an issue with ruck contests. Just would change my structures different against different teams to make sure I had a spare man. Win the ruck contest to an easy clearanceUltimate Team is so boring. I don't play games these days but its popularity really made me quit Manager Mode: which is way more fun. I was bloody reared on manager mode!
I think the camera needs to be way more dynamic – it should float and be on an angle ala Actua Soccer.
I think a big issue is perhaps the ultra-quick transition from what is essentially a mini game (the ruck) to the real game (roving the ball) It's hard to place a ruck rover and get an advantage from the middle, simply because you can't control the direction of the tap as well as where your midfielders are or are going to run. Perhaps it should be an option to 'simulate' the ruck tap or, put the bounce in slow motion: ie it's almost a cut-scene: each player has a different coloured cursor they place on the ground, which grows the more power you put into it. From there, it zooms back out as you control a midfielder.
This would be interesting because:
• It would give each AFL team some uniqueness: do you clear the ball properly? Do you create stoppages?
• Player types become important, and building a balanced midfield is important. You could have shorter, stockier Neale, Hannebery types or a midfield that busts through packs ala Dangerfield, Fyfe, or Cripps, or some that try weaving through ala Bontempelli
• It would make each player have a bit more choice... say you're playing as the Giants and your mate is playing as Richmond... your mate would be smarter realising his ruckman is probably going to lose the tap (based on stats, which would make placement 'easier' – perhaps the worse your ruck, the more shaky the placement cursor becomes?). So, once the bounce scene is over, the Tiges' player decides to 'defend' the tap (ie, they saw Mummy put it to the right and hard, so he makes Prestia run there to try and stop the clearance). The GWS player would be confident they're winning it, so would try running onto it.
To speed the game up, boundary throw ins or general stoppages just have a randomised ruck situation based on stats. There's still scope for tactics. Perhaps you're happy loading up on good mids, or maybe you want to win every tap, it's up to you.
From there I don't think the game has too many fundamental issues.
The good thing with a swinging camera is that when you take a mark 40 out, you can quickly have the camera sit behind the forward: gone is the idea of either having a set shot, or just passing it off, which is an issue with the old games: it used to be mandated by the computer which is frustrating.
Also, wouldn't mind them going down the Fight Night route with sub-titles. This could fluctuate with the current trends of the game or whatever.
I like AFL Bounce Down as a name in general, ala Grand Slam Tennis. AFL Dynasty could be good if they brought in some sort of 'Dynasty Mode' where the game ends as soon as you don't defend your flag – it could be an alteration on the regular 'Seasons Mode.' This would've been brought in after the Hawks won their second or flag.
What if it has a mission mode?Looks like this will be only the second AFL game not to feature Brent Harvey.
Nothing a patch wouldn't fixThey have to wait for finalized lists surely!?!?
Final lists November 30
Can they fix all the lists and release the game before xmas???
Youd think so. Dont see why they couldnt add players in a matter of hours, quick test, Publish and have in stores by 14th december, no???
There won't be an ultimate team mode in an AFL game for a long timeDisappointing if there is no ultimate team
