Swap every year between a day and night grand final.
The rhythm of the day as it stands can't be beat.
So yeah, may as well move it to a twilight slot then. The grand final is such a part of the fabric of the Australian sporting landscape that people make plans around it. It's not just a game. I understand that some people need to work on a Saturday arvo, but the same can be said for any time of any day.
It should be the latest they can do it with a red footy
Meatloaf at night is still Meatloaf.Hmm.
Angry Anderson at AFL park
Meatloaf at the MCG
Septuagenerian Kizz at the MCG
To be fair the day could probably try something a little bit different, if only to improve the music.
Nothing wrong with KISS champ. was the best entertainment the AFL has ever had for a pre game.Hmm.

You're projecting your opinion as fact.
I've made plenty of posts in this thread about the flow on affect of changing the Grand Final to a night fixture. You can go back and read them.
One statement I probably haven't made that I feel even stronger about this year is all important WHY question.
Why should we change from tradition, and go against the wishes of 83% of the supporter base just so non-fans in non-traditional AFL states MIGHT be more inclined to turn the TV on and watch it?
The biggest audience to try and capture are the kids.
Guess which timeslot suits the kids better? I'll give you a guess... it ain't night time.
My major argument is that it NOT be a night game.
9:40 is being conservative. It's after 10pm when those night games finish. That means your post-game is finishing around 10:30, when the cup is being lifted. It's WAY too late for families.
Also, you kill the Grand Final get together/BBQ for people with young children. Zero chance I'm taking my kids to a friend's house and leaving that late.
This is where my major argument starts. My son (who was 3 at the time), enjoyed watching the Collingwood players being presented with medals and a big cup. This is how the league creates core memories for the next generation of money spending supporter.
I wouldn't have considered this before I had children, but it's a huge one.
You want a night game because it might attract non-fans. I don't want one so it doesn't lock out our next super-fans.

I think we all need to be prepared for a switch to 5:15pm in a couple of years.
They’re already softening us up for it. Guys like Barrett are AFL mouthpieces. It’s going in to public domain now so get people used to the idea.
They’ve got lights at the MCG nowi am tempted by slightly later just to make more about the build up, 330pm or so
but then it would finish in the dark so nah,
Literally every big game the whole season is either twilight or at night except the grand final, it isn’t a logical thing to say the GF must be retained during the day.

And despite being finals, none of those games have the same feeling of gravitas or atmosphere that a Grand Final does.
The 2020 and 2021 Grand Finals didn't either.
As already stated plenty of times in here, families are the biggest loser of moving it to a night fixure, in favour of casual or non-fans. That is the most important argument for me, and I'll never view it differently.
I became a rusted on footy nuffie as a kid thanks to the Grand Final parties my parents would host every year.
Move it anywhere past 7pm and families with kids instantly second guess hosting or attending those parties. Basically everybody outside of the 100 000 people in the MCG on the day has that choice to make.
It isn't worth the risk of shutting out the next generation of supporters by moving it to an inferior timeslot.
The cats v lions game was the highest streamed from any sport ever recorded on fox kayo etc, plus it reached over 4 million viewers, the biggest of the season in both the afl and nrl, in that 5.15pm timeslot.
