How did the ball up's work, is it a throng of players like actual footy or is it the simple 3 on 3 as in previeos games?

I'm not sure how much detail I can go into around the mechanics of the ball up. However, it's not random, it is skill based. You have excellent control of where the ball goes, and how the ball is cleared and by who

How's the Crowd as well in terms of noise?

As in, when you kick a set shot goal is it quieter than a goal on the run or something?

Are close game goals received with more passion than a blowout?

Ross has already spoken in depth about the interchange system.

did you find yourself using that in game, or pausing and using the menu?

did you notice players taking their time to get off? Maybe a player was running off, but when the ball came near him he was able to be controlled so he could take part in tha play?

It would be annoying if that player was focused (zombie like) on getting to the bench and runs right past the ball.

what is your opinion of the set shots for goal?

were you impressed with how that part of the gameplay works?
Set shots are something that you have to get into a bit, there's that arc that was mentioned in XBW's article that you really have to take into account every time. I think that it'll take a bit to master, but you could probably end up going fairly well from set shots if you get them enough.
are all players clearly recognisable lance? or from the camera angle is it harder to recognise some players?
You can definitely recognise some as you go. Not all are the instantly recognisables as you go because the game is moving very fast.

There were definitely some players where you go "oh yeah, thats...."etc.

Ball up's/centre bounces were VERY good. Probably the most impressive part of the game for me.

The around the ground ball up's are generally well contested, it's certainly not as bare as it's been in previous titles.

The rucking system overall was absolutely fantastic.

the crowd noise reacted realistically to the game. However the last two questions I can't answer, as we didn't really have the situations, and we were talking a lot and being told how the game functioned rather than listenting intently

I will reserve judgement till I see it for myself. There is obviously a deliberate reason no footage has been shown up until this point and only mega-AFL fans have been allowed to see it.

I have a general question which i think normal people can relate to who don't follow this thread 24/7, and don't give a stuff what the sound of the siren is....

Did the game exceed your expectations? Also, will it still be playable after a month unlike previous AFL games which became pure crap after a week.

Honestly none of this stuff was really done because we were too busy playing. I asked about how quick the players go off the ground and the response was that they go straight off. I didn't think of asking what would happen if the ball comes close, so it could be something that happens, but not sure.
All this time Ross has been playing down the quality of AFL Live, but it seems that his comments are becoming more and more modest as the lucky people who visited BigAnt express their opinions.
It's one of those things that Ross has seen this game grow from day one, so really he's not going to always be impressed every time he see's the game.

We've literally just seen this game in action (apart from 5 seconds) for the first time today and blown away would be an understatement. I had my jaw on the floor until I picked up the controller.:p

While no doubt some is just huge anticipation and being able to get a go of this game, there are plenty of signs that this game has what it takes to be one of the better sports games on the market. Instantly it is better than AFL 99 and the latest AFL 2007 (as well as Aussie Rules Football if you're that way inclined).
are their any runners in the game and do they play any part?
Nope, you only have the players and umpires on the ground.

Thanks for the feedback guys. :thumbsu:

Lance or HBK, a couple of questions.

Did you notice the ball physics? Did it they look realistic? Were you guys impressed by the replays at the end of each quarter and at the end of the game? Did you notice a difference between the star players and average players?

Good question. In previous games, players kicking and handball ability was pretty simialr across the board. Kicking distance was probably the only noticable difference. i want to see someone like Hodge be damaging, while a much lesser name miss his target more often.

There were a few moments where you noticed the way the ball moved, seemed to be realistically balanced. From past AFL games the bounce always seemed to me to have a real pre-determined path. This one with all the different options of shanking the ball/poor handballs/bobbles from tackles/missed marks, etc. etc. the ball definitely appeared to have a more realistic bounce to it. Certainly wasn't over the top either.

The replays were good, showed plenty of different stuff, not just goals and marks. Stuff like good tackles, certain free kicks and plays.

While we didn't really have a ton of average players running around you could definitely tell the difference between say a Midfielder to a Ruckman. The ruckman would be that lumbering type of player while the midfield would be zippy and quick. So in that respect there was a definite difference.

While I'm as excited as everyone else and don't want to be overly negative, for me I won't make a judgement until i've played enough of the game to see it's long term viability. It's easy to think a game's good or even great instantly, but the really good games are the ones that you can keep playing for months.

But hopefully it is as good as everyone is saying and will be well and truly worth the $100 odd it will cost :thumbsu:

We didn't end up playing a full game, mostly got to half time since we were too much wanting to see as much of everything as we could. We still had about 4 half time games though.:p

Scores for some matches were pretty close, the team with the BigAnt lead designer though had the advantage in the last match we played and thus we got thumped.:(

Goals were pretty even, had some small forwards kicking them (a lot of crumbing goals from the small forwards), had some tall forwards (mainly marking goals). Had the odd midfielder running down and kicking a goal too. Was definitely no dominant force in any match as to who kicked the goals, in fact I think there might have only been one match with multiple goals from one player.

Not sure what you mean by the 'other' commentators?

did you play the mini games, if so, were they exceptionally fun?

in a marking contest do you always go to ground?

I don't think that's 100% correct, I've had three independant reviewers, with another tomorrow, and I had no idea who was coming today as I had never met them before. Short of inviting all of Melbourne up here I don't know what more I could do to be an open book.

Any of the reviewers or guys today could have said they didn't like the game... That's the risk I took with a blind invitation - they have reputations that they want to protect here (especially those in the media) and so are not, in my opinion, going to give false impressions.

thanks mate

I was watching through the window down at the Bigant complex, have to say, pretty impressed!

The mini-games are on the Wii version. We played the PS3/360/PC one (on PS3 btw). There is a training mode, but I cannot elaborate.

The marking contests were VERY solid (definitely no always going to ground stuff). I'm not sure how far I can elaborate on this, but it's safe to say it's NOTHING like the previous AFL games. The spoiling is really nice too, very satisfying when you get a spoil in.

Oh k. BT is the other commentator, in all his flamboyant over the top nature.:D
