Perth has been the coolest capital in the nation on a number of days this summer. :)

Nice thing about what's left of the NAB Cup - we'll see plenty of young guys on display. Be good to see what Caddy and Rivers add to the squad (doubt McIntosh will be playing), and for the guys on the fringes to see how they've improved.

I'm jut hoping Murdock has a ripping year was very impressed with him late in the year .

Here's my annual attempt at a NAB Cup squad for the first week, which is usually miles off what will eventuate:

M.Brown, A.Mackie, H.Taylor, J.Kelly, T.West, T.Lonergan, J.Selwood, J.Schroder, D.Simpson, J.Cowan, T.Hunt, J.Murdoch, M.Duncan, J.Caddy, J.Bews, J.Rivers, T.Hawkins, M.Stokes, C.Guthrie, N.Vardy, S.Motlop, G.Horlin-Smith, J.Walker, C.Eardley, J.Sheringham, S.Kersten, J.Stringer, R.Bathie, G.Burbury, J.Hamling.

I've given most of the oldies the week off (Bartel, J.Hunt, Corey, Johnson, Pods and Enright), plus given those under an injury cloud the week off too (Smedts, Varcoe, McCarthy, Menzel, McIntosh, Bundy and Thurlow.)

I'm not going to attempt to name my teams for the two games out of the above squad though, but I'm sure we can get a pretty strong team on the park in both games, even if they aren't that experienced.

Does anybody know what order the games will be on the night?

I would imagine that as we are the travelling team, we will play in games 1 & 2 before the two WA teams clash in the last one - but it would be interesting to know who we play first up as they will probably choose quite different teams for both matches

Don't really care that these round-robin games are over in Perth as I would much rather see the normal full length games we will get in Geelong the following two weeks

West Coast always seem to get first and last(we asked for it from memory) though I don't know if that will continue.

So we travel there and don't even get a break before W.C. Nice work AFL!

It's hard to say whether this is an advantage or disadvantage.
It may depend upon how many players we take over, and how many are doubling up (are there any limits, does anyone know?).
We might start warmer than WC, but be liable to getting run over in the 2nd half.
It also depends on whether or not we are going all out for 2 wins.

Prefer playing two games in a row, much easier to get into a rhythm and stay in it. If the guys aren't fit enough to play two NAB games end on end then we are in serious trouble. Players should be at close to pinnacle fitness at this time of year.

I suspect the playing list will closely resemble the list sent to Falls Creek, especially given the opportunity to mix it up with North during regular training sessions.

Falls Creek was the 1st to 7th year players (plus Rivers & McIntosh).
You don't think they'll be sending over any of the seniors?

I think it is very possible. Travelling to Perth isn't comfortable and guys like Bartel and Chapman might be better off missing it, especially as there will be vic matches later and they will have got in match practice against the Roos.

Sshhhh! Not match practice!;)

I don't like the idea of playing both games back to back as it's not ideal. Although it would simulate regular Home and Away footy better but it's going to be tough running after a fresh team in the 2nd game. I went to the round robin games at Etihad last year vs Sydney and St Kilda and it was 33 degrees and could be similar over in Perth. The fresher team in the 2nd and 3rd games won comfortably both times so it definitely has an impact. The first game is the only game were both team square off under the same terms. So if we can win the first game we will have done well. I just hope the guys who play both games don't get too fatigued. Teams are allowed 7 player changes between games so I expect a lot of youth with a bit of experience rotated over the 2 games. Fortunately results don't count for much in the NAB Cup and no injuries are more important!

I wouldn't expect any of the 30 somethings to play in Perth. Even the likes of Bartel, Kelly, SJ etc aren't certain starters. Same time last year we had a very young team for the games against Swans and Saints and I expect more of the same this year. I do hope we have close to our best 25 by the 3rd game though so we are better prepared for Round 1.
