That would be pretty close I should think. The fact is the salary cap will rise in the next media deal. So his payments will not seem so much after all.The AFL players association is looking for between 10 & 20% rise in the next deal. They will probably get 10% so the cap will rise considerably.

In NPV terms (using a discount rate of 3%) that equates to a total of 8.7m over the next 9 years in today's dollars. $763k of todays money in his final year.
I tend to use 4% for CPI/inflation but even then it goes to show that old "$ today isn't the same as a $ tomorrow" can have significant implications when you're talking about such a long term deal. By the time his contract is up it'll possibly look like peanuts in comparison to the games superstars at that point. Also factoring in the potential for the TV rights deal again increasing the cap I'd suggest we are getting a damn fine deal out of Buddy just taking in the marketing $ alone over his contract term... Extra memberships, seats, broadcast $'s (the buddy "blockbuster" effect), Merch... the whole shebang. He's bringing in a fair amount of coin not to mention he's already an amazingly talented superstar forward who was just about our best player for many of the games in his first year.

We win. Again.

Great post, been saying the same since we recruited Lance.

Like all Swans I'm pissed that we are penalised for playing by the rules.

Best way to answer the UNFAIR decision by the AFL is to stick it up em on the field, make a heapa dosh and cement ourselves as the super Club we are ..... Lance sure is helping to do just that.

4% may be a bit high as the Australian economy grinds to a halt but using 4% it's 8.26m over 9 years finishing on 698k. Average 918k/annum. Sounds like a bargain ! If any team had the chance to pick up Buddy for 918k/annum they'd surely do it.

Particularly when you compare what Boyd is reportedly going to get (not a lot of difference compared to Buddy's higher paid mid contract) and output is as yet unknown.

Boyd's contract should end the 'Sydney are crazy mavericks' consensus. If a bottom tier team can do it, why not the Swans?

But comparing the two contracts there's no chance he'll add value as Buddy has. At least not for some years to come.

Swans could easily argue they could leverage risk against the quantifiable and instant on-field and offield impact Buddy promised to - and ultimately did -deliver.

Those pulling the purse strings at the Dogs have far less upside to justify their contract. But power to them.

We were thinking the opposite as it would give the AFL the ability to screw us over when none of the media are paying any attention to the appeal.
Perhaps. I had thought the reason Sydney had stayed fairly quiet was because the appeal pending, I'd expect noise if it went against you today. And media in Sydney would pick it up in that case (nrl media like to embarrass the afl).
However recent events in Martin place probably throws it all out the window, there will be no media time to the swans appeal against the afl.

I just want the truth as a "trade" ban was never stipulated when they agreed to abolish the COLA to be replaced with rent subsidy in 2017.

I can take it if the club was trying to be sneaky and gain a upper hand but just tell us ffs.

However it does concern me greatly when Gillion is on record saying "we cant have everything"

By far the less important of the 2 appeals today, would happily maintain the trade ban if the drug cheats were punished appropriately

3 court proceedings regarding afl as Majak daw is also having his committal hearing today.

I'd rather not have a trade ban, what that other team does matters diddly squat to me. They are no threat to the Swans!

What happens to that other team would certainly affect Port though, and I would say that at their best they are certainly a threat to both the Swans and the Hawks

Yeah maybe...quote me on this RYDER ISN'T AS GOOD AS YOU THINK. He has had a grand total of ZERO AA seasons. He is inconsistent at best and he plays his best as a ruck...good luck with Lobbe there!

He's very, very important to Port in terms of depth though.

Maybe so but I don't see how he improves them much. He is just a fractionally more sane LRT! Has has elite games as a ruck....problem...they have an AA level ruck in Lobbe! He has kicked a grand total of a bag of 4 I think....that won't win you a flag!
