AFL Round 15 - COLLINGWOOD V CARLTON - Friday 7.50 MCG - Changes and Prematch Discussion

mattys123 Fair enough your opinion is that he is not even a vfl level footballer. Why do you think he is on our list them?
He was an experiment, a US player that was picked up largely off a youtube video, and for the first few years he was on the international rookie list so it cost us nothing to try him out.

I doubt he'll be at the club next year though, so he may be given one token senior game, maybe against GWS.

Now where's that Sydney supporter with the early teams?

Sinclair in for Mooney, only change.

A little disappointing with the other possible ins that haven't come up, but it's still a decent side.

Well that was a Waste of Time of Promoting Mooney then.

We are 100% sure that Sinclair is Bucks Favourite

Happy with the team, myself.

Thought Williams was ok last week.

Also thought Mooney deserved another game, but Sinclair is a good in.

Sinclair was the most likely in, someone had to make way and at the moment Mooney is the logical choice for team balance although the lad has lots of potential and I'll watch eagerly for his return.

You couldn't disagree with giving him a run surely?

I could quite easily disagree!

The fact that he hasn't been named amongst the best in the reserves in at least the past 6 weeks suggests he isn't doing much to put his name forward.

FWIW based on what I saw live just over a week ago the odds of him debuting are as long as Ratten being Carlton's next premiership coach!

Mooney covered a hole that Sinclair had left due to injury, and now he is back in...

What's the problem? ffs. I'm working on a positional ranking formula for all clubs....Sinclair is our #2 small forward this year (Fasolo #1), and he is replacing the #6 small forward in Mooney. How is that bad?

A depth chart? (NFL terminology).

I'm always wondered what one would look like in an AFL scenario, and yes, I agree, Sinclair is our number two small forward, and some may have even rated him no.1 in the 3-4 week period before he got injured.

He was a certain in as soon as he was fit.

It's amazing how the landscape has changed for young Ben in a few short weeks :)

Absolutely rapt Sincs is back (would not have said that 2 months ago:p).
Sorry for Mooney, but, I do think the taste was important and the coaches have probably felt the reward (being elevated), will help his game even more. Actually just organised a babysitter so I can go to VFL this week. Could be some good ins in the side.

It's all to do with my attempts to get an AFL job re: scouting...I thought I'd use Collingwood first given my amount of knowledge about them. It is statistical based, but in the way of only using appropriate stats due to their positions (rebound from 50s for small forwards aren't exactly a necessary stat are they?) I would prefer a couple of other stats that aren't readily available to help my defensive rankings, and I would also not use just this year...

What I can do though, is finesse it a bit for players as they change positions, for example as a default position, I have Wellingham as a midfielder, but he has been playing small (he is below 190cm) forward. If I change him into a small forward position, he is actually ranked #1 for us this year; compared to his #7 ranking in the midfield.

It has also shown me what we are missing, and that is key forward depth, especially if Cloke leaves. We would only need another ruck, if they are mature age, as we have plenty coming through the academy at the moment.

mattys123 & Scodog10 I have seen probably ten or more vfl games that he's played in, including the recent game vs coburg. Admittedly that's the worst I'd personally seen him play. Hes been pretty scheisen, but showed glimpses in the ruck. Liked him playing in defence as a learning tool.

I agree that it was an experiment. But sometimes you've gotta just throw someone in the deep end and hope they swim. Some players, at all levels of footy, simply don't develop in the ressies. I just think he has the athleticism and sporting IQ to have a chance. And I don't think it would cost us anything to test him out.

Agreed, and Clarke would be feeling hard done by.

no way on williams - mooney has a lot more footy to play before he is ready to impact over four quarters. Plus different roles. Clarke stiff: yeah, but fantastic it maybe he has returned with similar form to the past it does not ensure him a place. Clarke needs to take his game to the next level to ensure a permanent place in the side, particularly as injured players return, so a few games in the 2's are his opportunity to shift up a gear in a more forgiving arena.

Sinclair in has nothing to do with favouritism! He has earnt that place through form over a number of games.

Stoked Sinclair is back. He and Elliot are tackling machines in our forward 50.

Not sold on having Paine still in the side against the Blues, feel like me might be a little slow up forward. But happy he is getting another crack.

The Blues clearly aren't as undermanned as most would have you believe. They're only really missing four players: Murphy, Henderson, Laidler, Waite. In fact I'd argue we're missing more quality than they are. We just have better depth. This will be a competitive match, but I still think the side we're fielding should win by 5 goals.

It looks like its between Paine or Elliott for the Red Vest.
My money would probably be on Elliott as he is more of an impact player.

The sinner is back!!!

Him and Elliot together up forward, no chance of the scum running the ball out from half back
