Eligibility for NGA needs to be tightened but this isn't a bad approach

In the long term I think only Vic clubs are set to lose out
Why not just loosen it?

Everyone has academies and points matching is scaled to try and fix competitive balance.

With some incentive to invest specifically in people from diverse backgrounds

Seems fairer then the alternative

They pushed for this. The other 14 clubs could have had no academy, the changes in points curve and limiting to 3 picks to match would make the Northern Academies fairer.

Because it's about development, not hording players for clubs.

Ensure a player has been in the academy for X amount of yrs, the club has actually developed them. No concern in them being matched.

Have a kid who only gets accepted into the academy a few months out from the draft, not cool with a club matching them

The change needs to surround number of picks used vs list spaces in the draft.

Rather than number of list spaces vs number of picks at the beginning of the draft.

It's the single most important change that needs to occur.

Not this loophole surrounding mass trading on draft night.

If you use 3 picks to match a bid, it means you have to use the last 2 picks in the draft as compensation for that right.

Brisbane having to trade valuable depth and open list spots purely to match Levi Ashcroft is what should be occuring.

It's a different proposition to Brisbane not only have to find the points, but also have to move on 3 or 4 players they may have wanted to keep to open up for the fact they need to use 3 picks at the back of the draft to compensate for the 3-4 picks they used to match the bid.

Points reportedly remaining for picks out to 55 was also a feather duster solution. It should have been 40.

When I said loosen I meant backgrounds ie don’t have be from specific zones ect

100% agree on needing to be there for a long time say 10+ years

AFL can still run the academies and fund them? Don’t they sort of all ready do with the equalised distribution?

If you’re going open draft and not compromised. Father son goes too

FS is random and is available to 16 clubs, 19 in a generation.

Academies are exclusively for the benefit of 4 clubs only. Purely because the afl cannot afford to have these clubs do extended rebuild like Hawthorn and North have and Richmond and WCE are about to have.

Since the afl brought in the current system, there has been 6 top 10 FS picks and 9 top 10 academy picks.

Its a joke system that is set up massively in favour of only 4 clubs.

"But GF in melbourne". Fine. Hypothetically lets move it so every club gets a GF in their city every 19 years?

Not one club official or supporter of a northern club would give up their academies for a GF in their city every 9 years. No ****en way.

15 of the last 17 premiers are Victorian, and you are complaining.

Things that favour Vic teams
Percentage of local talent on list
Father son massively favours clubs that have been in league for a long time e.g. Vic clubs
MCG Grand final
No Travel
Marquee time slots
Marquee games
Nationally broad cast games
Ability to earn additional money through TV, Radio and sponsorship

Come back when Vic teams win 2 premierships in 17 years, and I will listen.

10 of 18 teams are Vic = 55%

15 of 17 premiers are Vic = 88%
but
2 of 10 before your cutoff are Vic = 20%

17 out of the last 27 premiers are Vic = 63% which is not theat far off 55%

Give Brisbane and Sydney back COLA and you can count them.

Starting from the 18 teams era make sense.

Brisbane had COLA from 1998 to 2006 and won 3 flags.
Sydney had COLA from 1998 to 2014 and won 2 flags.

So in 16 years 5 flags were won by COLA teams and you want to hand it back to them?

PS: Perth is cheaper than Melbourne. Should Freo have a negative COLA?

Not for living costs since we don't have pokies and they have to freight most of everything over here.

Property prices held over the last 10 years with supply but there's a huge resurgence and a catch up occurring.

I think the proposed new academy rules will be better, as in the long run it will mean more resources in all academies. Kids hitting that elite environment at a early age are going to be better than a kid without that opportunity but the same talent level. This will lessen the affect of the Northern academies as other players are going to thrive more and push up into the top bracket of draft. Currently there is no incentive to develop a superstar kid in all but the 4 Northern clubs as they will not be yours to draft. I have no idea if this is holding development back but it can't be helping it.

I agree that fixing up the points system / rules around junk picks / list spots is also required.

Not even close.

Cost of living is majorly based on leveraged debt. Of which rent and home ownership is intrinsically linked.

Sydney and Melbourne are the two highest cost of living states for this reason.

It's pretty close besides Sydney.

Capital City Median Value Annual Change
Sydney $1,222,430 11.40%
Canberra $842,971 1.20%
Brisbane $796,818 14.80%
Melbourne $777,250 3.90%
Adelaide $721,376 10.30%
Perth $676,823 16.70%

Like i said, Perth catching up fast due to supply issues now & other markets too hot. Cost of living on every day shopping is higher in Perth though besides electricity since the State Government keeps giving us $500 cheques.

Look at our Footy ticket prices.

Has the 20% discount been removed?

This needs to occur asap, will be shocked if they do not do this, this year

No discount removed so far. Everyone gets something seems to to be the approach, you just need to find a NGA real quick and claim him.

Mate, Laura Kane is in charge, getting rid of the 20% discount is so simple to do, you just send an email to 18 clubs, done! But Laura F Kane is incapable of doing something so simple, she's proving to be worse than useless!

So we'll once again have the two Queensland teams getting top ten picks for a bag of junk picks, because it's all too hand wringingly difficult to do something so simple!

Im on your side ffs. 'Vicbias' has messed with your head.

My issue is with academy discounts and priority access. The WA clubs and the SA clubs have it worst out of anyone as far as travel go with no academies to balance it out.

You just saw I was a supporter of a vic club and decided to start a fight. Nice selective dates too, ignoring that the 6 previous premiers before your 'start date' were all interstate.
